We just spent 2 nights here & loved it. The hosts were friendly & courteous and since we didn't have any problems can't comment about their problem solving. The spots are large & shaded (we had #15 for tenting) and ours was equipped with water and electricity. There were more campers than tents but does that really matter? All the campers we met there were friendly & seemed happy with their experience there. We got to see some dear & swans while staying there. So many families there but campers of all ages that got along.

The bathroom/showers were just as clean as any provincial site that we've stayed at. It's well lit at night so no need to bring a lantern with you for those late night bathroom visits.

We were there Aug 18-20 during covid times so we're not sure how things normally run. One suggestion I have is that since they have a huge open filed near the back, maybe set up a inflatable movie screen & have a movie night?

We camped at this campground for 2 nights, arriving just a few minute before the gates closed at 10pm at night. The staff was very accommodating and asked that I could call if we were running late and weren't going to make it to the gates closing. They also allowed us to physically check in the next day since their office closes at 7pm.

The campground is mostly for RV's so if you're a camper with a tent then you are in the minority. The area for actual camping aren't very well shaded with trees - in fact, there's a giant field with not trees to camp alongside the river. So if you're someone who likes privacy and the style of a traditional campground with lots of trees, then this isn't the campground for you. Otherwise, it's great because you can watch wild animals roam across the creek and river as you sit there by the fire pit.

A lovely campground with equally lovely hosts. Great birdwatching and plenty of things around to keep you busy. I tented for two nights and rented a cabin for the third, it was simple but nice. Great firewood, great showers, great place. I will come back

First time we stayed in site 10 - enjoyed it. Nice site, decent amount of privacy, entire campground seemed clean and well maintained. Second time, the only site available was in the back, and we ended up in site 45. Absolutely terrible. There is ZERO privacy back there, and there is not even any sort of barricades to indicate the confines of your campsite. So our site was a thoroughfare the entire time to completely rude campers who wanted a shortcut to get to the campers behind us and/or the grassy field. Constant stream of people walking through. Not entirely the fault of the campground...the people were just rude and generally stupid I guess. But if they planted some trees, or even put in some logs like other sites have to indicate the site area, this might have prevented that. We did ask to be relocated after the first day, but of course they were booked up (I guess every other reservation paid the lock fee???). Also, second night there, neighbors were not observing quiet time rules of 10pm - music still blaring past 11:30pm but they obviously don't enforce their rules, and no way to get in touch with them for assistance. (I tried calling - no answer. Because my husband was lucky enough to be able to sleep through anything, I wasn't going to wake him up to walk with me down to the office to ring the emergency bell)
IF we return, it would be conditional on making sure we could book one of the few sites that have boundary/privacy markers. As it is, the weekend was completely ruined for me this time. And they did nothing to help resolve it.

I'm really not sure why there are any negative reviews here. I find the management are great (very friendly and attentive). If you obey the quiet time and the rules of the park there is never an issue. It seems to me the only people leaving negative remarks are ones who do not want to comply and /or don't know the rules. There is a doorbell on the office door linked to the managers house to get help for any problems. The bath rooms are cleaned every Morning and afternoon. It's such a lovely friendly place.

I spent last Monday at the campground in my 21 ft camper. This is my 3rd visit this summer. Managers live on site and prior to this, I have been satisfied with communication, cleanliness and overall organization.

Monday evening however, I walked my dog around the campground around 8pm. It was getting dark. I passed a couple tenting with a blaze going in their fire ring. I was speechless! There has been a fire ban in British Columbia since July. Further down the road 2 more campfires! I called the managers as soon as I returned to my motor home. Had to leave a message. Sent an email. Still no response.

I left the next day but emailed the managers re their follow up. They apparently had not listened to my phone message or read my email. They requested specifics which I furnished but also stated that they "encourage campers" basically to resolve any issues themselves. I answered this by saying that as a single senior traveler I avoid confrontations especially at night time and that I had hoped that was the domain of management.

The only response sadly was that in response to my final question which was " "How would I have gotten in touch with you?" was that there is an emergency door bell at their residence. I won't return!

Hopefully there were no traveling sparks from the idiots who feel it is their God given camping right to have a campfire.

Very disrespectful, rude to our tow company before we arrived minutes after them,
hour and half of completed stressful hassle trying to find a place for us as they lied about the “spot” they had.
No spot at all, was told full service, there is no septic which is what we specified we needed.
The spot we were told for our 40 Ft indeed has no power and is for tents.
When asked the manger women for our bank card back so we could finish paying our tow that nicely waited the whole extra with this mess she starts being extremely disrespectful yelling your not going to pay you cant say repeatedly.
Learn how to conduct yourself appropriately instead of being such an embarrassment.
So disgusted and tired of people thinking they can act this way to others, its about time business owners know of this disrespect and have respectful customer service, since you already have a bad name here for your rude staff which was very clearly seen the second we arrived.

The place is awesome! Such a good location, helpful management, and the bathrooms are recently updated and some of the cleanest camp bathrooms I’ve seen in a while. The camp is also quite large, so there is usually availability.

Make sure to give kayaking a go at high tide!

Mike is fantastic and treats you like a wanted guest. With big sites, and beautiful views, it’s a little piece of heaven.
We travelled with our 2 littles and they enjoyed their stay here as much as we did, we will definitely be back one day to this little gem.

Campsite was not as described on the phone, nor does it resemble the images on the Sooke River Campground website. We arrived, paid for two nights and were ushered to our campsite - a spot in the center of a field of dead grass and dirt. The closest shade was a couple hundred feet away, and the river that's shown on the website is tidal. This means that a large portion of the day the river is empty and smells like low tide. In our case, this was the middle of a hot August day. When we expressed our dissatisfaction at the disparity between what we had been promised and what the campsite was in reality, we were (rudely) told we could leave but would not be refunded for either of the 2 nights we had paid for in advance.

There are far better places to camp on the Southern part of Vancouver Island. This was akin to paying $25 a night to stay in the middle of your local highschool field, assuming it doesn't get watered during the summer months. Needless to say, we left.
