Guests have repeatedly lauded the service, noting the staff's exceptional attention and assistance. While the inn's amenities, including the well-appointed rooms and stunning balcony views, are often praised, a few guests have pointed to spotty Wi-Fi and parking challenges.

Detailed Reviews
This is a charming boutique hotel in the heart of Lunenburg. We were greeted by the owner, Tim, who is very kind and organized. He had our express check-in ready, helped with difficulty connecting to the internet and offered excellent restaurant recommendations. Our room was on the first floor with access to our own balcony. This was only separated from the main balcony by a rope so I would not call it private. We had our own table and chairs as well as an outdoor seating arrangement. The balcony overlooks the harbor so there was plenty of activity to watch from our "perch". There were glasses, a wine opener and ice bucket at the ready. As this is an older hotel that has been renovated, it has some of the quirks that one would expect in an older building. It was very clean, nice bedding, extra blankets in a sealed plastic bag which seemed like an assurance that they had been cleaned. Parking in Lunenburg is somewhat restricted. Since we arrived after 6:00, we did not have to feed the meter and were out and about before 10:00 AM the next morning when you need to begin paying for the meter. When we got back that evening we were able to find parking near the hotel and again, did not have to feed the meter. The location of the Rum Runner Inn cannot be beat if you are visiting charming Lunenburg.

Best location in the heart of Lunenburg which was quite charming to visit. Check-in and out were easy and though no dedicated parking there was no problem finding close spots on the streets. Bedding, room and amenities were sufficient and though a continental breakfast basket as part of the stay would have put the icing on the cake, several shops nearby offered fare to start the day.

On our arrival a charming young woman greeted us from outside watering the splendid flowers and gave us information for parking which was very good, the parking meters ended at 5pm and we were at the door. The next morning we went around the corner where it was free!! The honeymoon king suite room was wonderful with the veranda and the wonderful view overlooking Lunenburg Harbour! Everything was on foot!! It exceeded our expectations and really enjoyed our 2 day spent there, the king bed was soft and comfortable the bedding was super soft, Wow!
The air conditioning worked very well, there was a small fridge in the room and ice at will in the hotel entrance. We find restaurants close to lunch and dinner on foot and there are beautiful shops and colorful houses all around!!
We highly recommend, go there with your eyes closed! the Rum Runner Inn, even though prices are high in season I think its worth it for all the road we do, we had compared with other accommodation and this one was the most beautiful!!

Location is great, that’s totally what you are paying for, and on street parking in September was not a problem . King room was dated and plain but ok, with small bathroom.
What wasn’t great was being told to lower our voices at 4 in the afternoon as we were talking on the phone to family out on the balcony. A truck below was noisily delivering propane and we had to speak above that, but in no way unruly, to be heard. We were told to lower our voices because the room abutting the balcony complained, but we noticed the rooms had been cleaned then sealed so can’t imagine how anyone was in them. Really strange and left a very poor impression.

Hello, you have admitted to raising your voice above a diesel truck delivering propane. That is super loud talking. We received a complaint from a guest who is trying to take a nap before they headed out for the evening. They had a long drive getting to Lunenburg. They complained through Booking.com. So the proof is there. We politely asked you to lower your voice, or just wait for the truck to leave. Then you can continue your Conversation. We are a quiet hotel. We have to care for the other guests in the establishment as well. We simply asked you to extend the courtesy that we would provide you.

We stayed for 2 nights and would have liked 3 but the 3rd night wasn’t available when we booked months ago. The owner responded very quickly to my inquiries at that time which was appreciated. We were greeted by a very welcoming young lady and had room 6 with a separate entrance onto the balcony which is shared. Mini bags of ice are offered in the entry which came in handy to chill our champagne!:) Great stay and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed our stay in Lunenburg and hope to return. Friendly people throughout the town. Of course the waterfront is lovely, but it’s also nice to walk around the area as there are beautiful houses as you go up the hills! Parking was not an issue except for the day we arrived as it was a holiday, and we arrived at a busy time of day. We were able to park closer once the late afternoon crowd thinned out.

The Nova Scotia Summer Fest Kitchen Party Tour used the Rum Runner for our cast and crew of 12 for our Lunenburg stop on August 19 & 20, 2021. In a time where cleanliness is under the microscope more than ever, the Rum Runner delivered by providing a safe environment in their lobby and rooms. With regards to the rooms and over all quality, our crew collectively agreed the Rum Runner was the perfect choice. High scale mattresses meant a great sleep, spacious rooms meant a comfortable stay and the balconies provided a nice social space for the crew. The fees are reasonable and management went out of their way in advance of our arrival to be sure we could check in with ease and be immediately comfortable. When travelling and working on such a tight schedule, these factors are what makes a hotel stay exceptional. Rum Runner is exceptional.

Our rooms were lovely and very comfortable. Amazing view! That said, the really impressive part of our visit came after we checked out when, later that afternoon, our 2024 rental car broke down just outside of Lunenburg. When it became apparent that we could not get to our next destination that evening, I called The Rum Runner to see if by chance they had any rooms. Being July, there were no rooms, but Tim took it upon himself to call other inns and found us two rooms in the Lunenburg Arms (which was also a very comfortable place to stay). We then faced the problem of getting back to town was we had been stranded with all of our luggage in the grocery store parking lot. Tim called a local taxi service (cash only) and paid the $10 fee as we did not have any Canadian dollars. He called us several times until our safety and comfort were assured. I cannot begin to express how grateful we are for his concern and assistance during a very frustrating time. Thank you, Tim, for making our stay in Lunenburg not only comfortable but also for being an exemplary example of human kindness.

This place needs to improve its wifi coverage; it was extremely inconsistent the night we were there.
Also, and probably more significant, is the noise transmitted through the paper thin walls. Whenever anything happened in the main stairway and entrance, we could very clearly hear it in our room. Once, I was awakened by a knock at my door. When I went to answer the door, it was actually someone knocking in the door across the hall. Very thin walls.
Sight lines from balcony are also not really ‘Harbour view’ as there are several buildings blocking one’s view.

Lots of good things here. Several good restaurants close by, three bookshops, and a few cute shops. The Fisheries Museum is behind the inn. The innkeepers are very nice and helpful and the location of the inn is perfect. Walking distance to almost everywhere . . . except to your car, lol. I suppose it is true that folks park on the street here, but even a marked drop off area would have been so helpful. It was raining when we arrived at mid-day, and we couldn't find any street parking nearby. We ended up about 4 blocks away (and keep in mind that Lunenburg's streets slope down rather steeply to the water). My advice is to plan on arriving early or after the stores close and you'll be able to park on the closest side streets without metered parking. When you're ready to check out, you can move your car after business hours to a metered space (they don't require you to pay after a certain time), and then you'll be able to load your car without the walk! There is a pay parking lot on the street behind the inn ($20/day, I think?), although I'm not sure if there are limitations on parking overnight. Or you could just not go until off season! If you do select a room with the large window overlooking the water, note that there is no shade for that window or the skylights. Our room was very well equipped but not very dark if you're someone who needs a dark room to sleep.

Hello, We're so glad to hear you enjoyed the accessibility of the town, staff, and location during your stay at the Rum Runner Inn. We appreciate your feedback and review. It's always best to call us directly if you have specific needs for your stay and in your room. The skylight room is a popular room for a bright and airy experience in the day, and in the night to see the stars and night sky. We also have rooms with blackout curtains for a different experience. Thank you, Reception Rum Runner Inn

The Rum Runner is beautiful. A wonderful location, extremely clean. The rooms and beds are extremely comfortable. The owners and staff were very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. They were able to give us recommendations on activities as well as dining which was very helpful. The balcony that overlooks the harbor was a great place to unwind and enjoy the view. We also found this inn to be disability friendly as well which was a welcome surprise (our room was upstairs but it had great railings, no tripping hazards and their were chairs in the room for sitting). The best accommodations we have found in our 10 day trek across Nova Scotia. We will be back.
