While some travelers suggest the rooms could benefit from modern updates and improved soundproofing, the overall comfort and cleanliness receive high marks.
The service at the Rum Runner Inn is often highlighted for its warmth and helpfulness, adding a personal touch to guests' stays. Although the Wi-Fi and bathroom sizes have drawn some criticism, the inn is generally considered to provide good value, particularly for its picturesque setting.

Detailed Reviews
Really enjoyed our stay at the Rum Runners and the hospitality provided by our hosts. The room was clean and tidy and the bed very comfortable. We had a small balcony which overlooked harbour and the bay. Parking was by meter outside the Inn but free on nearby side streets. The lodgings are conveniently placed within a walking distance of nearly everything. Lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from nearby and local sea born excursions all within a few yards of the property. Only downsides were the steep steps to the top floor rooms which were hard work with heavy suitcases, the rather small bathroom and the lack of voice privacy on the balconies, the dividing wall is only part complete which provides visual privacy but not aural privacy. All in all though a place to be recommended all at a reasonable price.

Our first day of holiday ended at the Rum Runner . We had the top room with a great view of the water . Our key ,and name was clearly indicated on an envelope near the front door and we easily self checked in . The phone in our room rang 5 minutes later with the owner apologizing for not being there to check us in - very impressive . Excellent location near everything . Yes , slightly dated but very clean room and we really enjoyed the room as well as stepping onto the (shared) patio with it’s view of the water . Woke up to a beautiful misty morning over the water and had coffee on the deck . Had some nice chats with the very nice and hospitable owner . We would go back .

On our arrival a charming young woman greeted us from outside watering the splendid flowers and gave us information for parking which was very good, the parking meters ended at 5pm and we were at the door. The next morning we went around the corner where it was free!! The honeymoon king suite room was wonderful with the veranda and the wonderful view overlooking Lunenburg Harbour! Everything was on foot!! It exceeded our expectations and really enjoyed our 2 day spent there, the king bed was soft and comfortable the bedding was super soft, Wow!
The air conditioning worked very well, there was a small fridge in the room and ice at will in the hotel entrance. We find restaurants close to lunch and dinner on foot and there are beautiful shops and colorful houses all around!!
We highly recommend, go there with your eyes closed! the Rum Runner Inn, even though prices are high in season I think its worth it for all the road we do, we had compared with other accommodation and this one was the most beautiful!!

My husband and I have stayed here a few times. It never disappoints. We book early so that we get one of the larger rooms with the covered oceanfront deck. It’s such a great spot to enjoy the view with a glass of wine (or 2 or 3….). The Rum Runner is very conveniently located right in town just steps from all the great restaurants and shops. And to top it off, the service is exemplary. Everyone goes out of their way to ensure you have everything you need and always with a smile. You can’t go wrong with the Rum Runner.

Stayed in April just before total lock down of the province. Left a day early due to the lock down and wanting to return home to feel safe in our community.
Had a wonderful room with a balcony over looking the Fisherman’s Museum. Bed was comfortable. Water pressure was one of the best in all the places we have stayed.
Restaurants were close by for some dine in. The last 2 days were only take out or were not letting people outside of Lunenburg in shops and restaurants for COVID reasons.
The owner was totally awesome and super friendly and kind. Check in safe and room was cleaned as per COVID rules.
We will be back soon. Thanks again to all at The Rummers for a wonderful stay.

+1
We had a beautiful view of Lunenburg Harbour in this great upper level King Size room with attached closed in sunroom. Tim was an excellent host and very accommodating. We’ll def be back when the season opens again to also enjoy his restaurant! Great breakfast at The Savvy Sailor too!

The location is good. It is close to almost everything. However the pictures are deceiving. The room was small even though it is supposed to be “spacious.” Also if your room is on the upper floor, you have to go up a scary steep steps with your luggage. The rooms are poorly and cheaply decorated. If you are looking for a B&B type place in a classic building with antique furniture, this is not the place. No breakfast, even continental breakfast is offered. So overall it is over priced. The A/C was not working properly and we need to turn on the space heater in September. I would not particularly recommend this place.

Nice hotel in the heart of Lunenburg. Close to everything. The staff very absolutely amazing. If you arrive early you have to find a paid parking spot on the street but you do not have to pay from 5pm to 10 am. The rooms are nice if not a little used. Amazing views of the bay. Will stay here again!

Our rooms were lovely and very comfortable. Amazing view! That said, the really impressive part of our visit came after we checked out when, later that afternoon, our 2024 rental car broke down just outside of Lunenburg. When it became apparent that we could not get to our next destination that evening, I called The Rum Runner to see if by chance they had any rooms. Being July, there were no rooms, but Tim took it upon himself to call other inns and found us two rooms in the Lunenburg Arms (which was also a very comfortable place to stay). We then faced the problem of getting back to town was we had been stranded with all of our luggage in the grocery store parking lot. Tim called a local taxi service (cash only) and paid the $10 fee as we did not have any Canadian dollars. He called us several times until our safety and comfort were assured. I cannot begin to express how grateful we are for his concern and assistance during a very frustrating time. Thank you, Tim, for making our stay in Lunenburg not only comfortable but also for being an exemplary example of human kindness.

This place needs to improve its wifi coverage; it was extremely inconsistent the night we were there.
Also, and probably more significant, is the noise transmitted through the paper thin walls. Whenever anything happened in the main stairway and entrance, we could very clearly hear it in our room. Once, I was awakened by a knock at my door. When I went to answer the door, it was actually someone knocking in the door across the hall. Very thin walls.
Sight lines from balcony are also not really ‘Harbour view’ as there are several buildings blocking one’s view.
