We would have loved to stay in a bigger room, but the stay was absolutely indulgent. Marianna was a wonderful host and made every moment we stayed there special. The house has spectacular gardens, which provides some of each mornings meal. Marianna made three course meals and sent us off witha snack each day. She had superb recommendations for dinner and was also ready to help plan the day if we needed it. The toiletries were incredibly lovely and the room was just so perfectly Victoria. Lunenberg was definitely the most romantic place we stayed a good launch pad for other areas. I wish there was an Ashlea House in every Nova Scotian community.

My husband and I enjoyed a one-night stay at Ashlea House. We have been to L'Burg many times but this was our first stay at this location (Addington Arms owners recommended AH as they are currently not open and we usually stay there). The house is stately and beautiful with wallpaper and incredible wood-carving pieces throughout. There is a beautiful 19th century piano in one of two rooms that my husband was encouraged to play (and he did!). There are many places to sit in the rooms mentioned with books and interesting things to look at. We were greeted by Jan (pronounced Yawn) and he showed us around, making us feel welcome. From there we were shown the Family Room which faced the main road. It was comfortable and pretty. Too bad there is an old looking building out front - if it wasn't there we would have a nice water view. The BnB is about a 10 min walk to the main streets of L'Burg (take path by the water). The room was quiet and the temp was comfortable given that it was very hot outside - we kept windows open and fan on overhead. The sheets were super soft as were the towels. We must have missed the fact that there were more pillows in the cabinet with theTV - our pillows were really squishy for good support. The breakfast, made by Mariana is served at 8:30am. I am really not a morning person (at all) but was encouraged not to miss it. Jan was right! Mariana presented us and two other guests (only 4 allowed during Covid) with a yogurt parfait featuring lovely berries (Haskap and strawberry) and a delicate choc wafer on top. Delicious! The next course was two different egg dishes, plus sausage, and a small fresh salad. It was SO good! I didn't think I was going to eat it all as it seemed like we just had dinner (Beach Pea - excellent!) but I did. This was followed by a recipe Mariana's mother had passed down - small vanilla layered cake (very light) with chocolate cherry topping and a big beautiful cherry on top. There was also fresh juice and coffee/tea. It was all excellent! We enjoyed talking with Jan and Mariana - lovely people who moved to NS from busy Mississauga, Ontario. We wish them well during this very difficult time and would highly recommend staying at Ashlea House.

If we could, we would give this beautiful, historic B&B a 10!!! Our room was lovely and Han & Marianna have attended to every detail to make this the perfect place to stay while exploring the Lunenburg area. We dined on delicious gourmet breakfasts every morning and were provided with freshly baked scones to take with us on our daily adventures. The sitting rooms were lovely and peaceful and Han provided us with lots of advice on local attractions. Thanks, Han & Marianna, for a truly memorable experience!

Discovered I failed to review on TripAdvisor. Had left a review on the property site but not TripAdvisor. We were there in May 2019. If you are ever in Lunenburg, this is the place to stay. Actually if you ever go to Nova Scotia you must go to Lunenburg. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Ashlea House is a beautiful historic home. You can cross the street and walk to town in less than 5 minutes. We were there for 2 nights, but would have stayed longer if we could have. Mariana is the most gracious, lovely host we have ever met through our years of travel. She makes you feel not only welcome but special. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Ioan, he was out of town when we were there, but I know he would be just as wonderful a person as Mariana is. Be sure to go up to the Widow' Walk room on top. The view is amazing. You can sit and enjoy the view. There are 2 lovely parlors downstairs to sit, relax and visit in. Weather permitting, the gazebo in front makes a wonderful space to sit and have coffee in the mornings, or relax before going to dinner in the evening. Suggest you transfer what you need to a smaller bag and leave the larger suitcase(s) in the car so you don't have to carry them up the stairs, especially if you are on the 3 floor. That worked out perfect for us. Now to breakfast - It's served in a beautiful dining room with a long table. You eat with the other guests which is a lot of fun. You get to meet people from all over. Getting to talk and share with other people is what makes a trip interesting. It's a 3 course meal of absolutely wonderful dishes. Each day is different. Mariana loves to cook and you get to eat her wonderful creations and her delicious baking. My husband and I still talk about the Ashlea House and Mariana. Getting from Red Oak, Texas to Lunenburg takes some planning. If we are ever fortunate to make the trip again, there's no doubt we will make sure we arrive when there is a vacancy for at least 3 days. That you Mariana for a beautiful stay.
