TAKE A JOURNEY FOR THE SOUL Welcome to the lodge in the sky. Talus is a back-to-the-basic refuge in the Canadian Rockies, nestled in larch trees, surrounded by spectacular vistas with yodel inducing hiking and whoop worthy backcountry skiing. Mountain souls will enjoy the simple pleasures of an authentic and unplugged wilderness experience. At Talus, we count wolverine tracks, not vertical feet. Take a journey for the soul to find out how nature connects us all, makes us human and feel truly alive. We invite you to venture off the beaten path. Talus Lodge is accessed by helicopter from Canmore, Alberta.

My husband and I visited Talus Lodge the first week of opening Feb. 6 to 10. We had an amazing stay and they accommodated us in every way. Most people had AT gear and we had light backcountry touring skis with metal edges! Oops. They were very gracious and allowed Travis, the practicum, to ski with us every day. It was one of the best vacations we have had and would recommend it highly. It is not a cushy resort, but it has all the basics with the best food. The scenery can't be beat. We asked about bringing a group of non AT ski set-up people and they said 10 could just rent the place for the whole time. Bring shovel, beacon and probe.

I feel so lucky to have been able to stay at Talus lodge. The logisitics were smooth. The owners had even offered to helicopter us in at no extra charge when it looked like the road might be closed by a forest fire. The hiking trail in had recently been renovated with switch backed to ease the elevation and to maximize the awesome view. The guide staff (Pate and Heather) were lovely and generous with their time and experience. They made sure everyone was looked after and had wonderful hikes. The lodge staff (Meghan and Heather) spoiled us rotten and treated us like family. The location is exquisite, with jewel-like lakes surrounded by a gleaming plateau of startlingly white rock and lofty but not unobtainable peaks. The lodge is very cozy and comfortable with astounding views from the well appointed windows. The sauna, paddleboard and well stocked for purchase wine and beer fridge were extra bonuses. We will be back!

Wild places have always been restorative for me, but have often been inaccessible on my own. The guided experience at Talus Lodge allowed me to have it all - access to jaw-dropping natural beauty in a remote alpine wilderness, comfortable accommodations, and amazing food. Our guides were professional yet attuned to our varied abilities and comfort levels, giving me the confidence to push myself beyond previously imposed limits without sacrificing personal safety. Their experience and knowledge of the flora and fauna as well as the history of the area added to the experience. In addition, the kitchen staff knocked themselves out accommodating my dietary restrictions. My gratitude to the entire team for the trip of a lifetime!

Our daughter and son-in-law were married at Talus Lodge this summer and the entire four days were magical. The hiking is breathtaking, and the accommodation comfortable and inviting. The cooks served up amazing meals and we all were spoiled by their attentive ness.
If you don’t feel up to hiking in, the helicopter ride from Canmore was another bonus to the stay.
We’ve been to other backcountry lodges, but this one was truly memorable

We had a fantastic ski touring trip at Talus Lodge. The bedrooms are so comfortable, the food is amazing, the skiing couldn’t get better and the views are out of this world. The guides are so friendly and professionals, I felt very safe ( always afraid of avalanches). It is a great lodge for a group of friends or couples. It’s easy to get to, a short 20 minutes helicopter trip from Canmore. I will go back for sure, in fact it’s my second time around, looks like a yearly adventure now.

A trip to Talus is incomparable! I've been to many back country lodges in Canada and the USA, and Talus is by far my favorite. We were a group of 9 women ranging in age from 45 to 90! I can't say enough positive things about the experience. Our guides (Pate, Heather, and Sepp) were outstanding. The hikes were magnificent (flowers, snow, views) and the guides were patient and encouraging. Anthony and Maya prepared delicious food and exceeded our expectations. The lodge is comfortable and as others have said, there's an incredible view from every room. I loved watching the sunrise off the back deck. The washroom and sauna are adjacent to the lodge, so no long trek in the middle of the night. For those who preferred, a "pee pot" was offered as a night time alternative. I can't wait to return!!!

The accommodations, food, guided hikes and staff were all excellent. The lodge was clean and comfortable. Our cook (Fabien) prepared delicious meals and snacks and accommodated my vegetarianism and other food preferences (e.g., gluten free). Do not plan to lose weight! The hikes were amazing and our guides (especially Kevin, because I got to know him the best!) were experienced, knowledgable, safety conscious, and friendly. They also offered choices in terms of difficulty level. I did find the rocky terrain a bit difficult to navigate, at times, but the destinations were always worth the journey.

Spent 3 nights at Talus Lodge Sept 2021 with a group of 8 of us. Had the lodge to ourselves, which was an intimate and special experience. Our guide, Pate, was so good at reading our hiking moods, and assessing the weather to adjust where and when we hiked. Heidi provided more than enough delicious food for all of us from dawn to dusk! I can't rave about her cooking enough. Emmalie was a gracious host, always busily tending to your needs. The Lodge was just renovated so we were lucky to enjoy the upgrades. It was cozy warm despite the stormy conditions outside. The sauna was a blessing as were the warm showers! This experience was as adventurous as it was relaxing.

To Rachel, We are delighted that your crew enjoyed Talus. The pleasure was ours. It can be a fine balance finding the sweet spot between adventure and relaxing. Despite summer snow and epic wind storm, it sounds like the balance was found. There have been a few changes to the summer Talus experience which have been game changers. Upgrades to the lodge include a gravity fed, solar hot water system which translates into a shower experience just like home but feels exceptionally luxurious in the backcountry. Glad you enjoyed it! I will be sure to pass along the compliments to our Talus Team. Hope host you again and thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Our first trip to Talus with friends who were veterans was simply amazing. The setting is beautiful, surrounded by rocky peaks. The touring and guiding are top notch. The snow was perfect! I can’t say enough about the staff, guides and owners - the food, service, smiles, stories, laughter… all made for great memories. For the backcountry, the beds, common areas, sauna/showers and newly renovated spaces make it all so comfortable. Thank you to everyone on the Talus crew - we’ll see you again!!

I went to Talus Lodge with my mom and two friends. We had an amazing experience. The lodge is situated in a spectacular location with stunning views. Our guides took good care of us and led us to some spectacular spots. We hiked to Angel's Landing on a promontory near a glacier, then to a massive waterfall. We also hiked to Upper and Lower Cirque Lakes. The terrain is so varied and inspiring, from plateau lands to peaks to lakes and waterfalls. I live in Canmore and hike multiple times a week, and there are few places more beautiful. The french chef was fantastic, and he navigated several dietary restrictions with a lot of care and awareness. Delicious! Can't wait to go back.
