This was our second consecutive winter driving the Alcan home to Alaska, and we wanted to avoid the horror show that is the Fort Nelson Hotel that we stayed in last year down the street. The Shannon and the Super 8 were the only options that took dogs. Initial glance at reviews for Shannon seemed fairly positive and not really any better than Super 8 which was much more expensive. The TV didn’t work. The WiFi was nearly useless- disconnected constantly and slow when connected. The heating is a joke- the baseboard heaters were beat to hell, only a couple actually functioned and those that did had barely any heat emitting from them. The room is equipped with a supplementary space heater along with an extensive instruction sheet warning you not to use it at the same time as the microwave, a hair dryer, or any other item plugged into the wall. Hello, fire marshal??? WTF. I wonder if the building is still wired with knob and tube?? It also tells you to only use the space heater “intermittently” and not while sleeping- LOL, it was -15F (-26C) outside, so yeah, right. The shower was lined with cracked and peeling plastic, everything was old- like decades old- and worn out. For ambiance, the rooms walls are concrete blocks. Felt like a bunker. Overall I would say it was as clean as it will ever get, given its age, but if you’re looking for a modern hotel, keep driving. Oh yeah, and the beds were mounted up on these weird pedestals which are concealed by the comforter so it’s really easy to stub your toe. The only positive was the bed was comfortable enough and the linens were clean. The managers were very nice, also, and waived the pet fee due to the TV not working, but this place is just too FUBAR to recommend.…
I stayed at The Shannon Motel for two nights. My room was so much better than the looks of the Motel. My room looked like it had recently been renovated. Only good for a night or two, but clean. Very friendly service.
This was the cheapest place that we could find in Fort Nelson and as a result you do not expect 5 star accommodation. We were warmly welcomed at check in and the room was a good size, clean and comfortable if a bit dated. It's ideal for a single night stopover for the budget conscious traveller
We enjoyed our spacious kitchenette which is well equipped with many comforts of home! The bedroom has a large closet, 2 comfy queen beds and heavy curtains so ppl can sleep in the dark. The owners were very cheerful and accommodating when we asked for extra pillows and towels. We will definitely stay here again when we travel in northern BC. Thanks for the great value for a great price!
This was the cheapest motel in Fort Nelson and we only needed it to get some rest from 10 hours of driving. The owners were very accommodating and wifi was not so bad. The rooms were outdated but I wouldn't complain.
