Definitely not a luxury hotel, but the beds were new pillow-top mattresses with comfy sheets. Wi-fi is free. Plenty of hot water, and clean floors and bathroom. There is a Dominos right across the street. What more can you ask for? The couple who own it are friendly and adorable.

First, the positives: park at the door convenience, very clean, reasonable price, plenty of hot water, free wi fi that works, and microwave. However, the office personnel are lethargic and not responsive to requests. When we woke up there was no power due to a scheduled power outage by the city power department but the office manager did not inform us of this at check in even though he knew of it. Had we known this, we would have showered the night before and purchased gasoline (no service stations could pump gas). When we called it to his attention, he was clueless as to why we would have wanted to know this info at check in. The guy was an absolute idiot.

The Shannon is a basic motel court property at a basic price in fort Nelson, where some of the chain hotels/motels are quite expensive. It is clean, off the highway so that it is quiet, and has good heating and hot water. I seem to remember working internet when I stayed there in 2006, not the case in 2007 and the owner did not seem to be up to explaining this in English, nor overly friendly. But hey, I paid my money, had my car just outside my door, and all else was fine. To use internet I ate at the Fort Nelson Hotel where this is provided while you eat. The Shannon + supper there is the price of any other hotel in town.

We’ve stayed in several motels on our trip and understand that they’re basic, but this place had so many things wrong, mostly how dirty it was.

We paid extra for the kitchenette so that we could cook our evening meal. Every single utensil, pot, pan and cutlery was filthy. I had to wash all the things we wanted to use first and in fact we didn’t dare use the cutlery, we got our camping cutlery out instead. All the knives and forks were dirty and they all laid in a drawer that was full of bits of old food.

There was no plug for the kitchen sink and no bowl so I’m not sure how they expected you to wash up. We did call the number supplied within the room for any problems and left a message but nobody bothered to return the call or bring a plug.

The bedroom was filthy with clumps of hair blowing out from under the bed and unbelievably, blood down the back of one mattress on the wall. The bedding was inside out and not put on properly.

The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, with yet more blood on the shower head handle and a dirty toilet.

The curtains didn’t fit the windows and the air con was pretty inefficient.

Anything good? The towels were clean. I think that’s the only thing that had been done.

We complained to booking.com as we had booked through them but they weren’t interested. There was nobody around at the property to complain to after we’d checked in.

Just don’t bother staying here. Anywhere else in town has to be better. It seriously couldn’t be any worse.

Absolutely awful and a health and hygiene hazard.

The hotel is right on the main road, the owner was courteous and helpful, and cheery. He was a great ambassador for the community. The price was very cheap by any comparison.
Sadly it ends there. Sleeping in your car is definitely an upgrade. The place belongs to a bygone era. Old, smelly, worn out, generally speaking this place should have been torn down and rebuilt. The owner is obviously milking it before demolition. There are lots of other hotels to choose from in Fort Nelson BC.

I've stayed here numerous times in the past, and I've had enough. Here's my two main reasons I'll never be back.

1) They now want to photo-copy your Drivers License and Credit Card. The broken english reason that I understand is they are not able to return your damage deposit otherwise. Which is $100.00. Two words immediately came to mind. Identity Theft. If you have stayed here in the past, check your bank statements...

2) They claim to have the best Wi-Fi in town. They. Do. Not. My second stay here having to resort to using my cellphone as a mobile hotspot. The wifi here is abysmal. Worse than dialup. Constantly disconnects, and bandwidth is terrible.

You get what you pay for, and for 90 bucks... it is what it is. The deal breaker for me was this recent demand for photocopied ID. I don't trust this place. Watch your plastic if you ever stay here.

Fort Nelson in British Columbia is not known for bargains, and that includes accommodation. A pleasant exception is the Shannon Motel at the north-west end of town. It's the first hotel on your right as you enter Fort Nelson, coming down the Alaska Highway from the north, or the last hotel, on your left, as you leave town, heading north. Our room was clean and pleasant, and the couple who received us at the office were warm and friendly, despite the late hour of our arrival. We would recommend this hotel. The rates are modest by Fort Nelson standards.

Cheapest at $76 for the night. Just needed a few hours sleep and a shower. The bedding seemed clean. The bathroom was mostly clean. Linens are threadbare. Surfaces and floors were very dirty. (Hair, dust, and old boot prints) The remote "safety/theft string" made me laugh. I'm thrifty and Ft. Nelson is always overpriced so next time I'll bring a foamy and sleep in my van.

This was our second stop from Palmer, AK to Brainard, MN. The rooms were clean and the bed was amazing!!! We weren't expecting such a nice bed! This was a great stop as it was open late, accepted pets and had free WiFi!

At first we thought we got a good deal but after the first night sleep it wasnt very good. First the was a huge sign out front that said new renovated rooms. Well let me tell you the rooms were far from renovated. the bathroom ceiling was falling in and the stoves were so old you had to guess what the temp. was.Try cooking a pizza when you have to guess the temp. Ya turns into cardboard. On more than one occation we came back from work and the rooms werent cleaned. No coffee, or cups to drink out of. Ever seen a construction worker who hasn't had a good sleep and there is no coffee.

The thing that turned me off the most and I kid you not was coming back from work and getting settled down for the night a stumble across a condom in my bed room. Oh yes you read right. I went straight to the manager and the respones i got wasnt good. He told me the next time I stayed there he would "TRY" to give me a disscount. Well never went back and never will. I would rather stay in my truck in the middle of winter and frezee to death.

So DONT STAY at the Shannon unless you like slum lords and bad service.
