Overall, this is a good hotel to stay at and my preference in Slave Lake. These are some of the things I noticed:

Things that were average:
The normal weak hot breakfast that is normal at hotels. Sausages paddy-style and hard boiled eggs on the hot section. 3 yogurt in the fridge. waffle maker. several pre-made coffee urns. instant oatmeal, plain, no oatmeal toppings. decent sitting area.
Terrible decaf and no ability to use your own coffee (cuisinart package brew in the room). Can't comment on caffeinated. The tea selection is okay.

Poor desk light/main area of room not lit very well other than front entrance and bathroom
pillows too puffy
no kettle for guests to use during stay
somewhat ambivalent staff, but wherever possible my requests were met (low scent room - accomplished by getting a room that wasn't cleaned same day as arrival, respected do not disturb sign to have no room service on a two night stay, provided a bigger container to make my breakfast)
outdoor flood light shining in room (ground floor) and impossible to have total dark even with blackout curtains

Better than average and the reason I like it here:

Comfortable bed (no low back pain and I often have back trouble from beds)
hot water available at kitchen 24/7 (hello tea drinkers)
great room layout with space for yoga in room 116 (can't speak to other rooms)
room close to exit and easy access to truck
Steady power at the outlets with 110 power
A bit away from the business area, less traffic going by than other hotels
Mr.Mike's in same parking lot

We three stayed for one night in February. The hotel is on the south edge of town, sharing a parking area with a Mr. Mikes. Reception was good. We got a double queen room on the second floor facing east. The room was good sized, with all usual amenities. There was a small table with two chairs to sit/read/whatever, along with a bar fridge and coffee maker. Lighting was adequate, but not bright. Temperature control was by wall thermostat and worked fine. The room was clean, and the beds were comfy. Many area workers use the hotel, so breakfast starts early and ends at 10 am. There were scrambled cheesy eggs, sausages (smokies), waffles, bread to toast, bagels, oatmeal, etc. etc. The breakfast room isn't large, but adequate, particularly when the workers have left.

Overall we recommend the hotel for a good stay when in Slave Lake.

Hotel is clean and presentable. Staff are oblidging and pleasant. Easy to find off main highway. Rooms are very acceptable and functional. The breakfast is a do it yourself cold food operation but quiet OK for travellers, we enjoyed it.

There isn't enough space here to list all the things wrong with our stay. A budget hotel should not mean you stay in filth. Everything about this property is dirty. The carpets leave your feet black and feel disgusting. I had to wash my feet again before putting my shoes on. The hallways are filthy, dirt in the windowsils in the breakfast area. The whole property is dated and dirty. We were forced to lug all our luggage down the stairs because the elevator was broken. We realize that wasnt their fault but based in the overall look of the property, we cant help but guess this is due to the poor maintenance of the property. The stairwells were full of mud, rocks, something that looked like dried dog feces! Who knows when the last time they were even vacuumed? The first room we checked into smelled like an ashtray. Hubby's eyes were burning instantly. 2nd room still had the stale smoke smell coverrd up poorly by air freshener and the air conditioning barely worked, leading to a poor sleep. Which was the whole reason we rented the room! Smokies were cut up and served as breakfast food! We will never return. I have enjoyed Lakeview Gimli many times and Lakeview should be ashamed they have a property in this condition.

Front desk staff does not provide any information about their property. Pillows are beyond horrible… caused sore necks, and we eventually had to give up trying to use them and had to sleep without pillows the first night and go out and buy pillows for the second night. All the beds are awful, caused sore backs and hips. Bunk beds in the family suite are horrible, the bunk beds are worse than the king bed, and the king bed was horrible. Stair wells reek of cigarette smoke. Front desk staff rudely questioned our request for more blankets for the bunk beds as they only provide thread bare blankets for the bunks. Also rudely questioned our request for more face cloths and towels. One towel had a pubic hair woven into the fabric. Parking lot is too small for the property and has huge pot holes. Beyond horrible hotel, do not stay here!

Working in slave lake for 6 weeks. Fairly clean.
Breakfast is one day hard boiled eggs the next scrambled then hard boiled then scrambled.
If in need of internet 🛜 you don’t want to stay here at all.
Their ROKU tvs cut in and out 7 to 9 times or more watching one movie.
Phone freezes up. Don’t even consider gaming!!!
Hope your phone has a hot spot.
Most of the desk staff are nice but one woman is very unfriendly and every shift she’s just about being miserable.
Wash room in lobby has had an out of order sign since I’ve been here, but it seems to work fine for the staff just not customers. The potholed parking lot kind of tells the whole story. It works as such ,but ….

They pre charged my credit card and then made me pay separately once I checked out. And didn’t release the preautherization. They said the bank will do it. The service was terrible and the food made me sick. I won’t be staying here again. If I could give this place no stars I would

Basic. The service was standard, the room was clean and needs a bit of sprucing up. Nothing that makes me want to return, but it’s a clean place to sleep. Breakfast was not great. But toast is toast and will get you by. The one real gem was the family suite that sleeps 5 people. The extra bedroom has a second TV and a door that closes. Wish we could have found more of these when my kids were small.

Our family of 4 which includes 2 kids drove 5 hours and stayed at this hotel. We arrived ariund 8:30pm. After we were settled in the room and after 9pm we noticed it was warming up. We were told some "tricks" to try and make the heater work. Like turn it to Off for a minute then turn to heat and then turn heat up all the way. This just told us the heater in the room was a known issue. The lady at the front desk was very nice. Did offer us another room on another floor but with the 2 kids and our things already unpacked and after a 5 hour drive we just asked for extra blankets. She also gave us a portable heater. The room had 1 remote for 2 tvs, no alarm clock, holes all throughout the kids blackout curtains which makes it hard to keep it dark and 1 bar of soap to use at the sink and in the tub I guess... We asked for a bit of discount upon leaving and was simply told no. We offered you a room. Well sir would you pack everything up after driving 5 hours with 2 you kids after 9pm at night?!? Thanks for nothing we would definitely not recommend this hotel.

Response from Emily B, General Manager at Lakeview Inns & Suites - Slave Lake
Responded Apr 6, 2015
Thank you for taking the time to write your concerns and grievances regarding your stay. My staff and I believe very much in giving the best in customer service and it's unfortunate that you did not experience that during your stay. It was Easter long weekend and unfortunately I was not in the office. I was made aware that a different room was made available, which you declined. I also understand traveling with little ones is tiresome all on it's own and your not wanting to change rooms. I am more than happy to discount the room or even make arrangements if you will be in the area again. I want to make sure that everyone that makes the decision to stay at this hotel has nothing short of a memorable experience and I hope you will give us the opportunity to do just that. Best Regards. General Manager and Staff.

can you view the northern lights from this hotel?
Answer from Ruth S
Slave Lake, Canada
We sit at the base of a small hill as you enter Slave Lake so you would be able to see the Northern Lights very well from the hotel, or you could take a nice 10 minute walk up the hill and see the whole town. This property is about 2 km from down town so the night sky is very bright! Cheers!
