I would rate the glacial fjords and hot springs tour as a 3.5. There were 10 of us on the boat, plus the skipper and his dog. The skipper introduced himself, but we weren't given an opportunity to introduce ourselves. It would have been nice if the skipper had shown an interest in where people were from, and it would have been nice for the passengers to break the ice with one another given that it was a full-day tour. There were interesting sights along the way, but unfortunately no wildlife other than an eagle and a couple of seals. (I know that wildlife sightings are luck of the draw, but the skipper had built up our hopes by saying that a humpback whale had been spotted consistently.) We had a long soak in the hot springs. Lots of healthy food and some treats were available throughout the day. Interesting information was provided by the skipper. Unfortunately, a day that started out sunny and calm turned into a ride of terror on the way back to the marina due to rain and high winds that kicked up. There were huge swells and the boat was listing. I was hanging on for dear life, seriously afraid that the boat was going to capsize. (As I found out later, I was not the only person who was terrified.) There were no reassuring words from the skipper, no instructions for people to come in from the outer deck when the weather turned, no instructions for people to put on life jackets just in case. At the end of the tour, the skipper himself said that a small boat wouldn't have made it out there. As such, I think there could have been more focus on safety as well as more sensitivity to people's nerves.

We had an absolutely amazing time on the Bella Coola Grizzly Tours boat. We were a bit early in the season to see grizzlies but we did see a black wolf on the beach and whales. Dan and his dog Buck were amazing hosts and the trip up the fjords was incredible. The hot spring stop was a definite highlight. We also stayed at their cabins in Hagensborg which were very comfortable and well priced.

Magic tour from the small harbour of Bella Coola around the fjord to hot springs, into a small bay with a giant tree. Fine lunch and a wide variety of snacks, lots of information on the area as well as the history of the community, sightings of whales ….

I have stayed here 3 or 4 times now when I visit the valley to see patients at the hospital. Each time Shannon has welcomed me so nicely. The cabins are spacious well equipped and impeccably clean, the setting is grandiose and stunning and Shannon goes out of her way to be helpful. This time she kindly lent us bear spray when we went for an amazing hike after work. I love it here and will be back!

We booked our fishing trip with Captain Daniel for 3 days on board boat. Awesome service as he had a young First Mate, Marshall, who also helped pack our gear on and off board from our trucks to the boat. Food and drink was served to us on board throughout the trip complete with 2 nights of crab boils! Fishing was so/so, but that was with all guides that week. Cooking by Marshall and Daniel was awesome as we were served fresh seafood throughout trip. Boat was roomy even with 4 guests and the Captain and First Mate. Anchored over night in 2 different bays complete with one night of having a mother grizzly and 2 cubs on shore to view for a few hours. Great trip and highly recommended! - Walter Bramsleven, 100 Mile House, BC

My family and I stayed in one of the gorgeous log lodges at Grizzly Tours in August 2022 and loved it. We had a wonderful time in Bella Coola, Nuxalk Nation, in the Great Bear Rainforest and Grizzly Tours/Lodge is the perfect base to explore from. We made the trip from Williams Lake, across the Chilcotin plateau to “The Hill” and down (4,020 feet in 19.4 km down!) into Tweedsmuir Provincial Park and the beautiful Bella Coola Valley. The scenery was spectacular! The highlight was a day long boat tour including a visit to a natural hot springs, waterfall, pictographs and the magnificent Big Cedar tree (19 feet in diameter) where we saw, and later encountered on the trail, a black bear! Our Captain was Daniel and he could not have been more capable and considerate, he made our day extra special with his thoughtful insights and accommodations - and lunch was delicious, too. We also went for hikes and visited the Nuxalk Nation's ancient petroglyphs – rock carvings that are estimated to be over 5000 years old and are a very sacred and spiritual place for the Nuxalk people. All in all, a wonderful stay at Grizzly Tours/Lodge and trip in SuperNatural Bella Coola, BC.

We stayed in the Big Boar chalet, and it was fantastic. Check-in and checkout was super easy, and the chalet was everything. It said it was in the description. Truly a beautiful West Coast cabin. The location makes it very easy to get to the two main bear viewing areas in the valley. And it’s close to the grocery store just down the street.

The hot spring trip was okay in general, but the description on the website was misleading. We did not even cruise near any river or "creek at Green Bay" to even try to watch bears or other wildlife on land. Also we did not visit any seal rock. Seeing wildlife is always a matter of luck, but we did not get the feeling to have it even tried. We paid over 500$ for 2 persons for some hot springs, visiting the big cedar tree and 2 unspectacular waterfalls to have the feeling that we could have used the day and the money better differently in the end. If you get the expectations right and have some luck with whales e.g., the tour can be quite nice.

Response from Leonard Ellis, Owner at Bella Coola Grizzly Tours Inc.
Responded Sep 23, 2022
We at Bella Coola Grizzly Tours are very sorry that you seem to be unhappy and unimpressed with our 8 hour Tour of the Glacial Fjords, Natural HotSprings and Waterfalls. Most people are very pleased with this Tour and comment positively on the quality and good value provided on this full day tour with lunch provided. We do our best to spot Wildlife for you while navigating the long cruise but sometimes, depending on weather conditions, the wildlife does not cooperate as hoped. Humpback Whales, Killer Whales, Dolphins, Seals, Eagles, Otters and many other species of Wildlife including Grizzlies, Black Bears and Wolves are common to these inland waters and beaches, however, we cannot guarantee sightings of free run Wildlife. Regarding our expenses the Tour cannot successfully be operated any cheaper given the high price of fuel, replacement cost on vessel and high operating costs to safely access this very remote wilderness area. Unfortunately FYI the last few days Skipper/Vessel Owner Daniel Ellis has been under a lot of emotional stress and quite worried about his Grandmother who sadly just passed away last night Sept 22nd. If Dan was not performing up to his usual quality standard he is normally accredited with, that is very likely the reason why. Daniel has done a very good job this season with hundreds of happy people safely enjoying Daniels Guided Tours so we are sincerely very sorry your day was not quite as full as you expected. Our sincerest apologies and please be assured and please know we do our best to be 100% all the time. if you would like your money refunded please let us know. Sincerely, Bella Coola Grizzly Tours team
