I visited 4 hotels in 4 day in region of Lac St Jean... And it was the best one. All of those hotels was clean, quiet... BUT shower was classy, big AND comfortable beds, proximity of downtown and especially great coffee at Pacini! Thank all staff for stay!

This was my first time in Alma. My room was nice, and had all the modern amenities you need for business travel. I'm not a big fan of Pacini restaurants, but the dinner and breakfast was pretty good. If I return to Alma, I will most likely stay here again.

Hi everybody, I’ve just returned from a night stay at the Hotel Universel in Alma and here is my review. First I would like to mention that this is not my first time in Alma, I have stayed at other hotels here in the past. The Universal hotel is located in the heart of the city, from here you can access the cinema that’s below or a range of offices that are linked by a tunnel, it is by far the largest and the most complete hotel you will find within 100kms in any direction. Upon arrival at the reception there was someone who wanted a room but the hotel was full, as for myself I had a reservation and I was quickly registered and in my room within minutes. My room was on the second floor, it was a large and beautiful decorated room, the air conditioning system is silent and the beds are super comfy with quality linens. There’s also a Spa on this floor as well as the indoor pool, parking is free anywhere on the site. I had breakfast at the Bordelais and it was alright for the price, service was average but that’s because the place was full, there was a large group of cyclist that showed up at the same. All in all I definitely recommend this hotel and I will be returning as of spring next year. Cheers to all!!

We had pre-booked this hotel before we came to Quebec and when we parked outside it, the hotel looked like a rather uninviting 'block house'. It is certainly not an attractive building. But we are very glad that we stayed here. The 'front of house' staff were extremely charming, efficient and helpful. The room was comfortable. And we had an excellent dinner in the hotel restaurant. The breakfast was also very good. The interior of the hotel was entirely at odds with the first impression that we got from the exterior. We would happily stay here again.

Stayed here for two nights on business. Wasn't many options to select. The hotel itself is fine, very basic I found, I had a standard king room. The bed I found very hard and didn't sleep comfortably. I would make sure that your room is not near the maid station as they start around 6:30 and do not seem to care about being very loud at that time.
I didn't eat at the restaurant as it seemed a little to high end for this hotel so ate both nights at Mario Tremblays restaurant across the street.
I did try to book a massage since they didn't have a fitness centre, but the therapist called to say she wouldn't be coming in.
I'd stay again if I needed to be back, but always looking for an alternative.

Did not intend to stay here but after a very bad experience at another hotel this was the only available property that day and I am so glad I found this wonderful treasure. The front desk, the restaurant staff and the cleaning crew were all very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was superb, a highlight of my stay and the indoor pool and jacuzzi were a pleasure to use. The rooms are a good size and mine overlooked the river (and parking lot!). However, they are a little dated and the bathroom is small and a couple of hairs on the bathtub prevent me giving it 5 stars

very decent hotel, well located in the , rather small, city center. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equiped. Very comfortable large beds, excellent bath room. The hotel is cosy, the bar and restaurants as well. Food is very good according to lacal standards and breakfast, served on table, is complete, good quality and warm. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. Can be reconnended if travelling in the saguenay region.

We just spent 3 nights at this great hotel. The desk staff were all hospitable and very helpful in both languages. Our TV remote was not working properly and was replaced immediately. Our large well appointed room overlooked the raging river. The breakfast has lots of choices and is good value for the price. The hotel is within walking distance of a good variety of restaurants and attractions. I enjoyed the bike path network for running. We got home to discover we left garment bags in the room closet. A call to the hotel had their return organized with no issue. The area is scenic and the Alma folks so friendly that we plan to return for a Saguenay area vacation.

My wife and I chose this hotel based on trip advisor and hotel.ca comments for the start of our bike tour of lac Saint Jean. We had booked a king bed room, and we were assigned a corner room overlooking the "cascades" of the river. Hence the name of the street "Boul. des cascades" . Excellent choice. Front desk staff equally friendly in French and/or English, and were full of information. We only had occasion to sample the restaurant for breakfast, but the bar was available for drinks and snacks, and both proved to be more than just acceptable. Very well done. The way our bike tour had to be modified due to rain, also required us to store our bikes with the hotel overnight, and that was taken care of without a hitch. On our following visit 2 days later, we were unable to reserve a king bed room, and were given a 2 queen bed room, also with the cascades view. All in all, very pleasant experience.
