Rooms were very clean and spacious; the entire facility was clean. Truly lovely setting with a courtyard and open bar/restaurant overlooking the large pool. Comfortable beds with clean sheets every day. Refreshing to have the luxury of a/c, a fan and warm showers. Drinking water was available at all times from a water cooler. Food was good, freshly prepared and portions were large, though limited options- chicken or fish were favorite choices. Electricity comes and goes, no surprise in Haiti. Weekdays were quiet, very few guests (only our own group of 5). On Saturday, with only two of us still there, the bar/restaurant played loud music that we could hear in our room, not unreasonable for operating a business. Respectfully, the manager did come to our door to check if it bothered us. It was turned off at midnight. On Sunday evening, the music started earlier in the evening and also stopped much earlier. The only negative experience was that evening-- A group of about 8-10 young men, hanging around outside a room two away from ours, seemed to be conducting some "business" through the room window (having removed the door lock and window louvres). A couple of women were sitting near the pool while three children played. Quickly, the children came to our table while we waited for dinner to ask for money. That whole group departed fairly soon after we arrived back at the hotel. Then, two men who had been making music, walked across the restaurant, stood beside at our table, just staring at us, no attempt at conversation. No one on the staff was around. Next, three of them approached us while we were eating, again when staff was not around. Part of the time, they just stood there staring. Then, they shook maracas around our each heads and right by our ears, not in a friendly musical way, not with smiles. Eventually, they left us alone. Could have asked them to leave, but chose to avoid confrontation because they appeared high. That sort of experience could be unnerving for first time visitors and unwelcome even for more seasoned visitors who just want to return to a quiet sanctuary for a meal and sleep after a tiring day. Overall, the stay was pleasant and comfortable. The manager promptly filled every request we had. We would not hesitate to stay there again.…
This is a very local experience. Importantly, the staff were friendly and always tried to fulfill any request with concern for your satisfaction. English is spoken by some of the staff though we were fortunate to have with us someone who spoke both French and Haitian Creole. Hand gestures are very useful. Our room was more spacious than say a Super 8 or Motel 6, but lacking some useful features such as night stands, a chest of drawers, or a luggage stand. We did clean up a few dead and a couple live beetles that are probably unavoidable in this part of Haiti. The bathroom worked fine though you should not expect very warm water from the rooftop black cisterns nor any shelf for your bathroom supplies. The hotel provides primary electricity for air conditioning, outlets and room lighting only dusk to dawn, so time your charging of electronics carefully. Rooms, at this time of year, become quite warm during the day. There is a secondary source of electricity provided through the front window screen via a series of extension cords traversing the room wing of the hotel. This is quite limited in capacity but does provide an electric supply when the main power source is off. All electricity is 60 cycle, 110 volt AC with standard USA grounded two blade polarised outlets. Beware that the room air conditioner is plugged into the same physical type of outlet but wired for 220 VAC ! So avoid using this outlet unless you understand the higher voltage. The restaurant is open, not air conditioned and provides simple standard menu selections. There is a bar (very reasonable prices) and swimming pool. The gift shop and beauty salon were never open during our stay of 3 days and two nights. The hotel does accept US currency. WiFi is only available in public spaces near the pool, bar, restaurant, lobby and does work when the primary electricity is off. Well equipped hotel with many amenities, in this remote environment. The hotel has had little visible customers in the last year. The facilities and service is dynamically adapted to the number of visitors. During our visit by a week, there were two guests in weekend. Shop (not used) and a small gym, also possibilities for pool table and table football. Facilities for large groups and conferences. Everything clean and tidy, and nice swimming pool. Staff is helpful when searching for transport services, but speaks poor English. Hotel is surrounded with a wall. In short; many potentials to relax after long car rides.
Loved every minute spent at Chateau Champvert. Everyone was friendly. The food was good. The wait staff is awesome. They helped to ensure that you are having a great time. Rooms and linens are cleaned. Worth the $$$$$...I would definitely go back to this Hotel.
