Detailed Reviews
My husband is an amputee in a wheel chair. We were impressed with the outside pictures of the "wheel chair accessible" cottage. The lake and setting is very nice. There is a ramp to the deck of the cottage. However, to get into the cottage you have to go over a corner of the fireplace hearth which sticks out into the doorway so getting the wheel chair in and out was a bit of a chore. I had to move furniture in the living room to accommodate the wheel chair. The floor of the dining room/kitchen is a bit uneven so my husband had to have the brakes on his chair so it wouldn't roll back. The bathroom is very good except the mirror over the sink it set up so high that my husband, in his wheel chair, could only see the top of his head. To get to the lake it is a gentle slope down to the water and dock. He could access the dock but there was not an area where the wheel chair could get to the water. Getting back up the slope from the dock to the cottage is a bit of a work out. We had originally planned to come back for a week in August but found it was just too much work to get in and out of the cottage and back and forth to the lake. We had to pay a 25% cancellation fee on our deposit. This review is from July 2022 and so you would need to check with management if some of these things have changed. Thank you.

We stayed here for 1 week with my parents and our very small children.
The cottage was nicely furnished and well stocked - more so than what I expected. Tv's in most bedrooms and a large one in the main room (not that we turned them on), a large chest full of games and puzzles and books, and fully stocked kitchen. The resort was well manicured and for us it was a short walk across the grass to get to the beach. There are lots of comfy chairs to sit on at the beach and a chest of sand toys. There's a water slide for kids only and a dock to swim out to - all in relatively shallow water for adults.
There is a small swingset/park near the beach that my small kids loved. Lots of room to run around and play games. You can go fishing off the dock or use one of the canoes/kayaks/rowboats provided. They also provide the life jackets. This was a great perk.
There's a rec hall with foosball, pool, air hockey and some books and movies. And Haliburton is very close - so you're close to a full grocery store. Wifi was very strong.
Our only disappointment was that there's just one campfire pit for the entire resort and although visually appealing with stumps for chairs around the pit, it's not very comfortable. The other guests were friendly though and the kids managed to get some marshmallow roasting in.
I would definitely recommend this place!

We've been going to Willow Beach for +/- 12 years now. Before kids and now with the kids. We know of families who have been going there for over 20 years! Our children consider it their cottage and have a lot of fun every summer. The beach is safe and great, the rope swing into the water is a blast. Hot tub is nice after a cool dip. We stay at cottage 1 most of the time because it's close to the water and very tranquil. Don and Marie are nice, Martin is funny. The grounds are great for a round of frisbee golf or baseball. It has a horshoe pit. Riding one of the rental boats into town is always a highlight of our stay. I rented a sea-doo from a nearby resort one time and had a wail of a time, the kids liked that, too!
This place is very much our place. We plan on going year after year after year.

Not only was it a rip off at $250/night for a cottage,it was abysmal to say the least. The cottage was a run down shack made of plywood. The toilet had to be manually taken apart each flush to stop it from running, the kitchen draw fell out nearly injuring the kids and the blankets provided in the rooms were filthy and old. We wouldnt even let a dog lie on it, in fact maybe a dog did use it. We also felt the staff unfriendly. Overall an expensive and dissapointing experience. Not recommended. The nearby dog sledding at Winterdance made up for it however.

Responded Oct 1, 2004
I felt it necessary to write a response to the tripadvisor review entitled "atrocious"! FIrst of all, I am not even sure they are writing about our resort. The description of the cottage as a "run-down shack made of plywood" is at best, just not correct and at the worst is slanderous! It is not in any way a fair assessment of our cottages. Pictures and virtual tours of our property can be found on our web-site at (commercial URL). All of our units are equal in appearance and decor to what you see on the web-site....we do not just show the best units! If the toilet or anything else was broken, all it takes is mentioning it and the defect would have been fixed immediately (I do the maintenance myself!). Please do not believe everything you read, investigate for yourself! We do not pretend to be a 5 star luxury resort, but we do pride ourselves on providing clean, comfortable accommodations that compare favourably to anyone's facilities in the "cottage resort" environment. Please come and see for yourselves!

The girls and the two of us just spent the week of Sept 26, 2004 to Oct 3, 2004 at the Willow Beach Cottages and enjoyed the cottage. We had a great time up at your cottage and all the things to do was great. The area was well kept on the grounds. The cottage was in great shape when we got there on the Sunday night. The fall colours were coming out at the right time for us to get some great pictures of the area. The Girls (Missy & Lady) had a great time with all that room to move around in. We are going to past the direction to your cottages to our friends since they have been after our response to how was it! GREAT.
Of course we have booked again to see you all the following Fall

My husband and I together with our sister and friends from the States stayed for a week this past July in cottage #7 at Willow Beach for the first time. At first we were a little weary as one of the ladies is a well-known watercoloured artist who was coming with a view to take a lot of photos for her painting endeavours in the winter months. However when we arrived, we found the cottage very well equipped and clean with an added attraction of a jaccuzi. The location was perfect with less then a couple of hours drive to the neighbouring towns like Huntsville, Dorset and Algonguine National Park. All the cottages were well kept by each indidividual owners and the beach area and campfire pits had lots of reclining chairs for guests use. Also the canoes and other water vehicles together with life jackets and safety equipment were in excellent condition. The grounds are always clean and grass kept short. Every day the cleaning lady would come around to ask if everything was working well and if there's anything else we needed. The maintenance man was around every day and does a really good job in keeping the whole area clean and well-maintained. It was such a delight to 'show off' to our American friends and family how pretty and relaxing Haliburton is and thanks to Willow Beach Cottages, we have just won their hearts to bring them back again next summer. The bonus for me was catching a 3 lb. big mouth bass just a little off the beach from the cottages... my first ever biggest fish that I have caught.

We have been going to Willow Beach for 8 years. We have always found the staff friendly, cooperative and very efficient. The cabins were always very clean and the kitchens well stocked with utensils. If there were ever a problem it was handled quitely and courteously. The Monday night welcome get togethers have been fun and a great ice breaker for newbies and experienced visitors. It seems that every year they have added new features or comforts for their clients. The programs for the children have been interesting and kept them amused. I have enjoyed the weeks when I want to become envolved with the other people and really enjoyed the relaxation times when I just needed to "veg". Having been there at all seasons they really have something for every season. It really is the place I have always been looking for. Thank you Don, Marie, Lisa & Martin.

For six years a friend and I have been vacationing at Willow Beach Cottages. We have had nothing but good experiences there. We have met many people from all over and no one has had anything but good to say for the paople who run it or the cabins. Our vacation plans are booked for Willow Beach Cottages again next year.

As a repeat summer customer at Willow Beach I was amazed to find such a bad review about Willow Beach here. I thought that I should share my possitive experiences. This summer when my family arrived at Willow Beach we found our cottage with a new kitchen floor, newly decorated livingroom and bedroom. The cottages are of cource cottages but, they are kept up quite well and are always clean. If ever we are missing anything the family who runs the resort always finds it for us in a quick and friendly manner. The childrens program is amazing and every summer there are two great leaders who my children always adore. There is also a nice beach and sandy swimming area, the hot tub and sauna are a great retreat for those rainy cloudy days. We payed 995 for a week at Willow Beach which seems to be right about middle range for a housekeeping resort.

We spent a week at cottage 13 with our extended family. It is the largest unit at Willow Beach, providing private space for everyone with 4 bedrooms and a sun room/secured breezeway that can also be used an additional bedroom. Our combined families have lots of kids so we were not looking for a newly furnished/renovated place that would make us nervous each time our kids started running around. This place is clean and furnished as any "up north" rustic vacation rental should be, with furniture that is functional and comfortable. There is a gorgeous view of the lake, sand, playground, firepit and LOTS of space for the kids to play soccer etc... We were there to relax AND show the kids a good time. This cottage ensured both. There is an additional restroom just outside this cottage that is housed within the laundry facility that we found to be very conveniently located when looking for extra privacy away from the gang. In the laundry facility has a large sink that was also a bonus for parents with children.
There are two entrances to the wrap around deck, one from the kitchen and one from the family room, which made eating outside very convenient for those preparing. Kitchen is larger than most rentals. BBQ right on your private deck, no need to share with others, or walk to a communal space.
The master bedroom has its own floor and its own bathroom, which was SO nice! Gorgeous view, too. There is a lake view from the family room, and 3 bedrooms, so listening to the calming water and waves while falling asleep was so lovely.
Precious memories were made, we plan to make an annual trip to Willow Beach, and stay at cottage 13. Thank-you everyone for a wonderful experience!
