This place is simply that! We were up there for the May long-weekend and had a blast. From the outside, Edgewater looks just like a typical 10-12 room motel, that just so happens to be situated on one of the most beautiful properties in the area. Just as the name implies, Edgewater is located on the shores of a quiet bay of beautiful Lake Temiskaming. Because we were in Northern Ontario to do some fishing, the location alone had us excited!
Even with the amazing location, the rooms were the real feature of this place. From the brand new queen size bed, to the kitchenette which included stove-top burners, a mini-fridge, and cupboards full of clean dishes, to the brand new flat screen TV, these rooms were immaculate! There was even an electrically controlled fireplace!
We spent the days on the water, fishing from the rental canoes provided on-site and the evenings relaxing with a couple cold ones down by the fire pit. What more could you ask for out of the first long weekend of the summer? I loved it!

We were lucky to have found this motel in New Liskeard, on a recent outing to NorthernOntatio. New Liskeard is quite a big town, close to Quebec border, and is right on the main northboud Highway 11, has plenty of amenities, big box stores such as Walmart, Canadian Tire, and nice restaurants (Pizza Hut, etc.). The hotel and motel is right on the shore of the huge Temiscaming Lake, 2 minutes off from main Hwy 11, thus offering perfect tranquility. The motel offers direct access to the lake, with a superb view. This motel is extremely fit for a romantic escapade, a group outing (family/friends) to discover Ontario scenic land beyond North Bay, full of lakes, of which Lake Temiscaming is the biggest as it straddles across Ontario, Quebec to feed the Ottawa River. The rooms are very cosy, very well equipped with a fireplace in each room. The bathroom is brand new. The owners offer superb hospitality service, helping guests like family. In the morning, we had a serene time by the lake, from the dock, in the backyard of the motel. The motel playground, on the shore of the lake is huge, children can frolick on the grass with the owners' dogs, adult can have a leasurely walk, or just hang around, read books while enjoying the nice sunshine, breeze and fresh air from the lake. Yes, the air is so fresh that I am cured of my allergy instantly! For romantic couples, or if you like a feel-at-home environment or for long-term stay in the summer, you can also choose one of the two cabins, complete with kitchenette and eating deck right on the lakeside. A Netflix film crew team had stayed at this motel to complete a film with Lake Temiscaming as the main film environment. So I highly recommend this hotel for your weekend get-away, a vacation in this area which offers much more to your budget than the highly publicized Huntsville area. Our stay was so memorable that we definitely will come back to enjoy the lake setting without ever having to dream of owning a cottage by the lake !

Like the title says I am back at the Edgewater motel in New Liskeard and "WOW" the improvements are astounding. I am writting from my room here at the motel and I am very impressed with what the hosts here have done... even since the last time I stayed here. A brand new dock, probably the most comfortable bed I have slept in, waterfront campsites, canoes and bicycles to rent, there is even a fishing tour company operating off the docks that will take you to some of the areas best fishing spots! Well done! I will keep coming back as long as they are still so affordable.

Was passing through from southern ontario on my way up to Thunder Bay for work and decided to stop at the edgewater as I figured I would enjoy scenic views and being on the water. This is not the case as the hotel faces the highway and there is no view of the lake from the room, non the less it is a beautiful property with nice water frontage, just not a nice view nor on the edge of the water (as the name suggests)! The room I was in was very clean however exceptionally small and had a bit of a damp smell, when I inquired about the dampness the owner explained that it was geothermal heating and cooling and due to the moisture in the ground during the spring season it was always a little damp at this time of the year, I can live with that for a night. The one thing that I do not like however is feeling like I have been taken advantage of, as I paid $ 89.99 to stay in a outdated, single room and upon talking with some miners who were up there for work, they informed me that they were staying in a double room for 63 dollars a night!!! Not impressed. The real icing on the cake however was in the morning when I stepped out of my room I did not realize that there was a heaping pile of dog poo on my door mat, to which I fully stepped in with my right foot! I cannot verify that it was the owners dogs as they roam freely on the property (they are wonderful and friendly animals that I did enjoy) however I can only assume due to the size and texture of poo that the main culprit would be the owners retriever. All and all I could say that I would probably not return due to the experience and most definitely not return for that price, at best this is a 50-55 dollar a night outdate roadside motel, for another 30 dollars I will stay in a brand new room at the holiday inn off the highway and deal with the HWY noise!

Response from avdventure, General Manager at Edgewater Motel and Campground
Responded Aug 11, 2017
We have no record of such a person staying with us in May and we believe this was written in response to a HYDRO ONE crew member whom we had to ask the company to speak to and ask him to leave -- (We have since had to involve the OPP regarding criminal harassment) Really, I ask would anybody have such an experience in May and wait until August to write a review?? As our other reviews show we are a renovated older motel at the lake with extensive natural grounds, Gazebos, BBQs Docks 800 ft of waterfront etc. Anyway we shall address your "Story" The moisture in the ground making anything "DAMP" makes no sense mechanically as that would have no effect on Geothermal heating systems. The dogs (neither are the retriever breed) are 8 and ten years old and have NEVER ever gone to the washroom in the front of the hotel and had such an incident occurred it would of been obvious to housekeeping at your check-out the next morning. The rooms are not $89.99 as you claim and yes we do do discounts for people who are staying long term as a crew member would be, --as low as $59 per night on a weekly stay! nor were any of our crew rooms of double occupancy. We are curious as to why you chose to stay if you felt that our rate was too high? In closing, we ask if you would be so kind as to provide us with a proof of your stay so we can truly get to the bottom of your claim.

We were visiting family in Haileybury, and my husband and I decided to stay at the edgewater. upon checking in the owner "John" was very pleasant but I found the reception area to be alittle dirty, we asked to look at the room before deciding to stay. The room although outdated seemed to be clean and we decided to stay. about 2 and a half hours of being there my husband went to the grocery store and I decided to have a shower, I heard my shitsu barking and thought that my husband was getting back from the grocery store but it was actually hotel owner John who just decided to let himself in with no notice or knock on the door!! when I asked him to please leave immediately, he gave me attitude saying something about an electrical panel and did not leave right away. I was beyond creeped out. My husband had stern words with John and we left immediately. John refused to refund us! people please do not stay at this motel. the owner is a lunatic and pervert.

my family went to stay there for a few days visisting family in haleibury . the owner yelled at my mom to pack her stuff and leave because it wasn’t pet friendly which says it is on they’re website , my mom tried to explain that my brothers dog is a service dog because he’s autistic and she told her to leave without a refund and hung up on her . later that day the owner came in un announced in my family’s room went up to my autistic brother without a mask yelling at him , telling him to have my mom call her . ITS A SERVICE DOG ! edge water want you to think they’re friendly but they’re discriminating and bullying they’re customers . This isn’t the end of it ! my brother is still shaking thank you edgewater for traumatizing my autistic brother ! I DONT RECOMMEND GOING THERE ! don’t waste your money .

We had a wonderful 5-night stay! The owner, John and their dogs are amiable and welcoming hosts. We reserved the trailer, close to the water. The trailer was very clean, pretty spacious for two, well equipped with dishware, internet, tv and very comfortable beds!
The property is beautiful! The motel is close to the water, and there is a small trail at the back that offers a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake especially during sunrise and sundown. The history of the property and the area is fascinating, there a big book to look through and decide what to see. Gorgeous place, fabulous hosts and a super sweet dog that will not leave you alone to get bored.

Booked this motel for a snowmobile trip. The place is overpriced for what it offers. The owner is very unprofessional and unreasonable. Facilities are messy and poorly kept. There are far better options in the area. I would advise against staying here.

Hello Again I am very sorry that you feel it was unprofessional of us to charge you for the extra two people that you attempted to sneak into you room and talking to you about disturbing other guests . Of the 18 rooms of happy snowmobiles we had during that week it seems that only you had a problem which also did not exist after the first night before your "Extra people appeared (We asked your other actually registered guest) I understand that you,and i quote you " do it all the time at bigger hotels and they never notice" however as i tried to explain there is a difference in cost from housing 2 people to 4 people and $10 per person is not unreasonable -- I wish you well in your future travels elsewhere
