To be honest, I don't even think it is open any more. Desolate. Joe's Cabins sign has been altered with spray paint. Beach is near by..1 of the 2 free beaches in the area. East side of Candle Lake. Don't do it.
We are still confused about the name of this place. The place we stayed at was K+R but we were not sure if this was a relatively new name for old cabins. After reading previous reviews, we were definitely freaking out about staying here with our 4 month old baby and 2 year old toddler. Upon arrival, however, we were pleasantly surprised. If you are expecting something like a hotel room- good luck. Go to a hotel. This is an old cabin and it was fine for what it is! Just expect that. It wasn't dirty or anything, just a bit run down. But there was a bbq, hot plate and dishes. We dealt with Rick, he was awesome. We ended up having to leave because our toddler was pretty upset and he refunded us for the 2nd night, no questions asked! Even let us check out at 3 so we could enjoy the day there still. Pretty sweet. The only real complaint we had was the beds. Pretty uncomfortable. Location isn't the greatest, you are in a horse shoe shape with 3 other cabins and it's not private at all. Not super close to the beach but still walking distance. Would be an alright place to stay in candle for a few nights. …
These buildings should have been condemned before they were dragged into Candle Lake in the 1960's. I thought they had been improved but found them smelly, dirty, and run down as before. The owners have no desire to help customers.
Make sure you have your shots up to date. Only thing missing is a guy standing in the woods with a hockey mask and machete. The owner walks around dazed and confused, just clueless. Don't eat any food at joes cabin it's a joke they only have burgers and chicken nuggets. The bun was stale and freezer burned I took 2 bites and I couldn't swallow the second, I had to spit it out. My wife and kids tried the nuggets only to find out the chicken was raw on the inside. I'm thinking of calling a health inspector.
Me and my girlfriend wanted to have a little girls get away for the weekend but not wanting to spend an arm and a leg. We decided to go with these or joe's cabins or ricks cabins or C & K cabins (whatever their name is) just bc they seemed to be "ok".... Not even close. We like adventures but could stomach spending the night here. Firstly, when we arrived, went into the restaurant and the girl had to call around to see what the accomadations were, then said they are pretty much a "dungeon"..... (good advertising). we were told we got cabin # 3 and the keys and all should be in there so we drove to the back. At first we thought, ok, ok not bad... then say there was lumber and such in front of the front dorr and couldnt even get in... we manually removed the stuff and had a littel laugh...... but then opened the cabin and found NO hot plate/NO utensils/windows open (mosquito heaven!), damp and moldy smell....at first we thought, "ok, we can jsut drink alot and forget about these things...." Then we saw a gentlemen outside and he said it was his lumber and he'll move the remains.. so I asked if he was the manager and his response" well, sometimes!"..? So then asked for utensils and hot plates (as stated on advertisement and on kijiji)....he claimed they havent done that in years and threw away everyything...? We explained that we broughtgroceries to cook and we under the impression that those things woudl be provided. And he just said no. So he brough us 2 plates, 2 mugs and 2 utensil bundles from the restaurant... additionally, the plates he brought us were dirty (literally covered in food) ..... Also, there was no "bbq" provided as stated ....it was some sort of medieval pully system by a fire pit, with burnt out beer cans and gross water filled/rusted out table. Great location to cook a family dinner.... we were pretty upset but thought, ok we can handle this and laugh alittle... btu then out "neighbours" drove up in their chevelle and we were pretty sure she was a hooker..... and thats when we decided to go for a little drive to see what else was available, no matter the amount it costs per night.. we went to the Golf course and they informed us that the office was closed and the owner was out golfing, we were to leave our #'s and hopefully owner will call back - AND SHE DID! Lynda fromt he golf course is an Angel - she informed us that we could stay in the 2 bedroom cabins (luxury comparted to what we had) and for the same price as we were payign (and they are normally 285/night!!!!!). I dont think we packed fast enough!!!! We tried speaking with Rick - the owner before we left, let him know that there was no amenties as stated on the ad...the price we alost paid (135/night)!!!! ? is WAY WAY WAY over priced... maybe 50 bux...maybe. Rick did care at all and was more interested in drinking with his buddies. He could totally put some money into that place and they would be great little cabins... but isntead he doesnt care and he doesnt care for feed back. His attitude towards us alone was enough for me to leave. ..... Bottom line - Do not stay here - do not give Rick any money and DO NOT pay the full amount if you will stay here. Please view my photos... look at the black mold on teh fan??! pictures say enough.…
