Little hidden secret away from the world. Close to the first Hudson Bay trading post in Yukon. The post is now one of the huts you can stay in! No electricity in your hut, chemical toilet, stunning view. They do not have wifi or internet. Food is local and tends to be european style. No wonder with a swiss couple running it. The surrounding is stunning, empty.

This is a true gem in the Yukon wilderness. Martin and Andrea, the owners, were truly wonderful. We chose the "lodge hopping" option from their website, and all arrangements were done perfectly. We highly recommend this option if you want to get experiences in different areas of northern Canada (Yukon and Northwest Territories). Frances Lake itself was great. We stayed in the old historic cabin which was very comfortable. Andrea cooked wonderful family style meals (there were 5 other guests during our stay) and Martin made great suggestions for outings. We saw wildlife and had some great hikes. Our stay at Little Doctor Lake was a bit of an adventure as the float plane's starter motor died and the pilot had to spend the night. But it did not detract from our experience. The float plane flights through Nahani National Park, the mountains, and Virginia falls were all memorable. All in all, a wonderful vacation for my wife and I.

Frances Lake is very beautiful and wild, and the location of this lodge is just stunning (photos on the website do not do justice to the views of sawtooth-shaped mountains to the North). I stayed in the new cabin that they opened in Summer 2011 somewhat apart from the rest of their cabins but I visited the whole lodge, and the whole property seems terrific to me (definitely including the new cabin). Operators are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and its natural history. I totally recommend this place for people who want some combination of a wilderness retreat and a fishing lodge--it's got everything you could want in both of these dimensions.
