The place and is so cute and charming and our room (the loyalist suite) was great - very thought out little details e.g. soft bathrobes as well as cute silk ones to lounge around in and dyson hair drier, etc. . The staff was incredibly kind, the sauna and fire place were much appreciated and the breakfast might have been one of the best we’ve ever had (ricotta pancakes & omelette). Overall we had an amazing stay and will be sure to visit again.

Staying at the Merrill House is like staying in the welcoming home of an art collector. It’s filled with art, antiques, books and cozy spots to sit and relax. We stayed in the Tower suite which has a jacuzzi in a tower room. What a great place to de-stress. Our room was very clean, quiet and the bed was so very comfortable. Dinner was exceptional. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Our waitress Linda brought each course at just the right time. The complimentary breakfast was just as delicious with fresh orange juice, fresh fruit salad, flaky croissants, light fluffy pancakes and savoury eggs. When we arrived at Merrill House, Sean greeted us. He patiently answered our questions and gave us great tips on where to go in Prince Edward County. His suggestions and help made our trip an unforgettable success. We can’t wait to go back to this unique, one of a kind hotel.

We spent 2 nights at the Merrill in October. When we arrived we had booked a standard room and we were offered an upgrade to a larger room at no cost. The room was beautifully appointed - very comfortable bed, high quality linens, robes - all of the amenities we needed. We arrived Thanksgiving Monday, and on anticipation of nothing being open in Picton they had kept a couple of tables in the dining room for arriving guests. We had an exquisite meal - very high quality food, presentation and service. The breakfasts were delicious - many choices. The property is beautifully restored and maintained. We particularly enjoyed a glass of wine at the fire pit in the year. The young man who checked us in was very helpful - suggested things to do, wineries - emailed us lots of information. We would definitely return to this lovely property.

Staff are extremely courteous, pleasant and efficient. (One staff member (Sean?) went out of his way to get us a New York Times on a Sunday afternoon, for example). The hotel is beautifully appointed, has a fun interior design vibe and the beds are very comfortable. Well worth the visit. We could not have been happier with our stay and with our encounters with everyone we met in Picton and in the surrounding County.

The Merrill House was recommended to us by people who live in the area. It was our first trip to Prince Edward County and I was looking forward to visiting Picton and staying at this boutique hotel and experiencing its "Five-Star Amenities." We booked a one-night stay in the Concept Room at a cost of $395 per night. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly woman who sat behind a small desk at the back of the hotel. Check in was simple and quick. Despite the hotel's claim to have 24-hour concierge service (listed in the room's brochure), I never saw anyone at this desk again. There was no telephone in our room, so each time I needed something, I had to go downstairs only to find the desk was empty. One time, there was a plaque saying I should go to the restaurant level and find a staff member who would kindly assist me. The Hotel also has a "Pillow Scenting Service." We could test the scent domes at reception and determine the perfect scent for our luxurious night’s sleep. Pillows are scented during complimentary turn-down service. No scented domes. No turn down service. The hotel's website also says, "Enjoy custom rosemary, lemon and lavender soaps, body wash, shampoo, condition and lotions dispensed from environmentally-conscious Merrill House dispensers." There were no custom soaps; only a Mrs. Meyer's hand lotion which can be easily purchased from a Canadian Tire store. The mini-bar consisted of a small Nespresso machine, two cups, two water glasses, two wine glasses and two small bottles of warm Perrier. No wine, no liquor, no pop, no ice, no chocolates, and no one around to ask for them. In room technology was poor to say the least. Wi-Fi was spotty and, although I looked around, I never did see the complimentary iPad we were supposed to be given. It was a good thing I brought my own. My husband's breakfast the next morning was delicious but sadly, my poached egg was stone cold. A good server would have returned to our table shortly after placing down our order to find out if the food was to our expectations. She never returned to our table. For this service, a $12 tip ($6 per person) was automatically added to our tab. I will give the hotel room five stars for cleanliness. I don't normally post reviews but on the occasion of this particular stay, I felt compelled to write. The final bill--with all the amenities we didn't get--came to $500 for a one-night stay. Overpriced and overrated.

Our sincere apologies that your stay didn't live up to your expectations. There are some amenities that are different then what our website says because we have to do things a bit differently for COVID. Once we are safely able to we will be able to offer our full services with no restrictions. It's true that we don't have iPads in the room currently because we want to make sure they are properly sanitized. When you check in a clean and sanitized iPad should have been offered to you for the duration of your stay. Same with the pillow scenting, this should have been offered to you upon check in. We currently don't have the scent domes as they would be high touch areas and we are trying to be as conscious as possible about COVID safety protocols. It's also true that there are no phones in the room but there is a grey binder in all of the rooms that have the concierge number that you can text or call. On busy nights our front desk team may be running around making drinks, doing turndown service and assisting guests but we can always be reached by phone or text on that concierge number in your grey binder and we will be right with you to help as soon as we can. Thank you for your review as it is always helpful for us to know what needs to be addressed and we are always adjusting to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible.
