Detailed Reviews
Beautiful boutique hotel with attention to detail on the guest experience. The hosts Megan and Max are amazing! The breakfast included is the best I have ever had included. Highly recommend! We will be back for sure.

It was our first get away in years without the kids. It was weekend planned with 10 other couples to cycle through Picton County for an amazing fall weekend. We had our 2 year old Look and Eddy Mercks bikes with us. When we checked in we asked if we could have our bikes in a secure room in the boutique. We were shown a bike rack outside that I would not even attach my kid's bike to. When we requested another location we were told we could keep with them in the hallway by the kitchen which was in full view for all. We decided to keep them locked up in the car overnight since it seemed like a quiet neighbourhood. It was the first time ever that I relaxed about not having the bikes inside a building in a secure area. This was a huge mistake. The bikes were stolen out of the car overnight. That same night a break in to the boutique was also attempted. The parking lot had no lights and no security camera. When I spoke with the owner of the boutique she wanted a photo of the bikes in the car since she thought we were fabricating the entire scene. We left the next day since we were mortified with our experience and did not want to stay the second night. Booking.Com was empathic and released us for the contract of the second night. The owner indicated to me she would have charged us regardless. Our friends who stayed in other b & b's all were provided with secure areas. The police indicated that there is a history in the area with bike theft. We went home with a 10,000 deficit due to the stolen bikes. Bike Touring is well advertised within Picton County - we would of expected a different attitude then what was exhibited by The Manse Boutique staff and owner.

Response from Kathleen W, Manager at The Manse Boutique Inn
Responded May 1, 2015
This was an unfortunate incident, however a little clarification is needed. The Manse offered you the opportunity to store your bikes inside the building, which is locked at all times and only accessible by a key card and only by overnight guests of The Manse. Something that ALL other guests have taken us up on and stored their bikes in the building. You chose not to take that option and left your bikes in the car. According to the police report filed your car doors were unlocked and people gained access to your vehicle through an open door. I chose to not charge you for your early departure, against the urging of The Owner and our written policies which you agreed to. Again,an unfortunate situation that could have been prevented if you had stored your bikes in the building as offered.

I stayed here a year ago and the place was quite nice. I was eager for a return. No doubt it still is nice and the recent reviews attest to this. But I feel I have to remark on my latest unsuccessful attempt to secure an evening of accommodation. I used the "Quick Contact " button on the website and requested a room. Fair enough if the place was booked, my request was admittedly last minute and I was prepared to be disappointed , But I got no reply whatsoever to my enquiry. I followed up with a phone call a day or so later and was told curtly : "I have nothing for you". Maybe I am a little too sensitive but in a high end place like this I expect a little common courtesy ---- like an answer to a web reservation request, even if it is negative, and an apology before being curtly turned down over the phone. ( Better still how about a recommendation on another place to try ---good for someone else's business ?? ) Stuff like that leaves a bad taste in ones mouth. Maybe the Manse has had a little too much success and is adopting what I am coming to recognize is PEC bad attitude. I have run into it recently in other places in the county. Perhaps my 20 year love affair with the county, traditionally a warm, friendly and inviting place, is coming to an end. Success has spoiled them.

My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and decided to spend a few nights in Prince Edward County to celebrate. This was our first visit to the area and we had heard about the Manse through friends. We dropped by to check it out and we were so glad we did. It has only recently opened after a lengthy transformation and it is a stunning historic building next to a beautiful church. Kathleen, the ever so gracious inn manager, welcomed us and gave us the grand tour of very upscale accommodations. Every room unique and tastefully outfitted and decorated. The renovation was thoughtful and practical - even better than any pictures you will see! Her husband Chris is the chef and you can witness his commitment to fresh, local ingredients and custom care of his guests. Look no further. This is the place to stay in Picton area. It will not disappoint!

We spent a weekend at The Manse over the beautiful Victoria Day holiday, and had a wonderful stay. On arrival, we were welcomed with a glass of sparking wine which we enjoyed on the spacious veranda. Throughout our stay, the inn managers Kathleen and Chris were on hand to provide helpful advice on places to visit within PEC. And on our last night, chef Chris served us a delicious dinner of soup, charcuterie, goat cheese tart, smoked salmon and more - all complimented by wine suggested by Kathleen. We ate on the veranda, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Every attention to detail has been paid to the inn itself. It is lovingly restored, yet has all modern conveniences. We stayed in rooms #1 and #4 which share a verandah on the second floor. The beds were very comfortable with beautiful linen While the bathrooms are small, all the finishes and fixtures are of the highest quality. The showers had great supply of hot water at excellent pressure.
The breakfast served each day was super - from yoghurt and fresh berries, smoked salmon, home-smoked bacon, scrambled eggs, crepes and maple syrup and delicious homemade ketchup - there is something for everyone.
Highly recommended!!

We have spent weekends in PEC several times over the past few years, each time staying at one of the long established and well-known hotels in Picton - and each time been sorely disappointed with the service.
So, when researching hotels for our trip this year we really wanted to get a good place. The reviews of The Manse almost looked too good to be true. But, we booked - and were not disappointed. The hotel is beautiful and impeccably clean. Kathleen and Chris are welcoming and friendly hosts. With only 7 rooms, they have the time to provide personal attention.
I give a special personal present to my partner on these trips. I usually do the work but need some local information. I called Kathleen in advance of are arrival for the needed information. She volunteered to do the leg work for me and did a great job at it.
Breakfast is included. What you get is far from the usual average continental cold buffet. The menu includes about 6 hot entrees cooked to order by Chris.
Speaking of food - dinner at The Manse is not to be missed. We were the only ones having dinner that night (???) so we ate out by the fish pond and were served personally by Chris as he finished prepping each course. Not only is he a great chef, but his passion for food and his dishes makes for a wonderful experience.
And, they have a spa as well. More beautiful and restful than we possibly imagined. Rita gives great massages. Mine was one of the best I have ever had.
We will certainly be back to The Manse again.

The Manse is a lovely Inn, but the manager Chris and his wife Kathleen were the most unwelcoming people I have ever encountered in my lifetime of travels. We arrived early in the afternoon, and although we were told that we could enjoy the pool and patio area, it was clear we were a huge inconvenience. Any when I had to get Kathleen to come to our room to help us work the TV, she was definitely not pleased. And, it continued our entire stay. I would love to go back, but not to be treated so rudely.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your complimentary comments about our beautiful inn. We are very surprised by your comments and are disappointed that weren’t able to give you the level of service that you were looking for. As other reviewers have noted (171 of them to be exact) my husband and I give a high level of personalized and friendly service to each and every one of our guests. We hope that we can make it up to you in the future. All the best, K&C

A really lovely new inn in the Prince Edward County area. We went for my husband's birthday with our new baby and had such a great time - the rooms are gorgeous and comfortable with such nice features; the shower was amazing. It's so nice that the Manse is licensed as well, there's a great selection of local wines by the glass or bottle and it's awesome to be able to enjoy them in your room. Our breakfasts each morning were made to order and just delicious. The church chime is not loud at all and never woke us up - in fact, it added to the charm of the inn. After a very disappointing stay at the Claramount Inn, it was refreshing to see that this smaller property really cares about its guests! The Manse is such a wonderful addition to Picton & we're looking forward to going back this summer.

The stone building and thoughtful landscaping are visually appealing. Inside we would have loved some attention to detail. There was old tissues along the edge of the bed, rather unpleasant. The electronics lacked either batteries or cables for function. There weren’t any towels poolside or access to any towels to use by the pool. The caretakers seemed inconvenienced by our presence.

We stayed at The Manse for a night during a stop over in Prince Edward County. Our room was on the third floor and was really gorgeous. The pictures on their website didn't really do it justice The decor is quite chic - a really nice combination of modern and traditional. The gardens and grounds are really beautiful - including the pool in which we had a refreshing dip after our drive into the County.
We had dinner there and Chris and Kathleen really went above and beyond. The meal was really fantastic - a 5 course dinner with wine pairings that delivered excellent flavours and really super value. Not to be missed. We have been travelling to PEC for the last 15 years and have stayed in many places; this was one of our best stays. We will most definitely return.
As others have said follow the instructions to get there - GPS won't help you.
It is an easy walk into the main street of Picton from The Manse, perfect for some summer strolling or shopping.
