Away was everything and more than we expected for a safe getaway during a season of staying close to home. Susan and Glen Wallis are excellent hosts.
Susan greeted us at the door and welcomed us as she explained a few essentials. Glen called greetings from the kitchen where he was in the midst of preparing the dinner we had arranged for that evening.
Our room was lovely, clean and filled with special touches - beautiful bed linens, fresh flowers, a heated bathroom floor and even a picnic basket and blanket to use when setting off to explore the county. The art on the walls was created by our host, Susan Wallis. Discovering her work is what led me to Away.
A deck overlooking the property was off a little common area, with a fridge and lots of books, just outside our door.. The deck was a great place for star gazing later that night.
Our dinner and the two breakfasts we enjoyed were delicious. Dinner was topped off with a melt in your mouth orange cardamon cake with lemon yogurt. Chef Glen was happy to share some of the cooking secrets.

We absolutely loved our stay with Susan and Glen, who are the perfect hosts.
The location is perfect with views of and direct access to the lake, and surroundings of lush lawn and both nurtured and nutritious vegetation.
Our room was beautiful, with bright and characterful decor, a gorgeous comfy bed, all amenities, and a picturebook view.
Glen's breakfasts are fulsome, fresh, and delicious. Glen and Susan are friendly, charming, informative, and fun. We loved Monty too! The whole experience was delightful.
PEC is a hidden treasure which we'd recommend to everyone touring in the Ontario area, and This is the Perfect Place from which to base your meanderings.
Could not recommend more highly

This was our second visit to Away and this time we brought 2 friends to reconnect and recharge from Covid.
It truly was a wonderful weekend away.
Susan and Glen were most welcoming and we enjoyed the delicious breakfasts,
conversations and music every morning.
Away is a special place if you like beautiful scenery, peace and quiet and a great nights sleep. We highly recommend this beautiful home in the country.

We had a wonderful stay at Away. The property was so beautiful! We really enjoyed having evening bonfires by the water with a PEC bottle of wine. Breakfast was definitely a highlight, the French toast was a particular favourite of mine! We felt safe in the times of COVID and it was a nice escape from the city! Susan and Glen are great hosts, we felt safe, welcomed and so spoiled during our stay!

Pros:
- Nice owners
- Nice view of lake
- Breakfast was great
- Helpful in planning dinners and activities
Cons:
- Very hard to sleep with noise travelling in from other rooms through the night (ex. We heard people walking in other rooms, coming up stairs, talking etc)
- Could not control temperature in room and woke up really hot in the middle of the night with no way of cooling off. Fan was noisy.
- Dog is cute, but barks in the morning. Not great if you are planning to sleep in past 8:30am
- No housekeeping so bed was not made up next day (not sure if this is typical)
- Wifi not too fast but ok for emails etc.
- After 5 minutes in shower, drain overflows
- Paid for the full two nights, only stayed one
Overall - I would not recommend, especially if you are used to staying at 4 or 5 star establishments.

We are saddened by your review of our property. One realizes that there's always the possibility of a bad review as a result of some oversight or problem. The fact that this was not the case makes your review so much more upsetting. We attempted to have Trip Advisor remove it, but currently they have no system in place to research complaints by conducting any fact-finding. We are forced to accept that your review will remain on our page. We are going to be registering a complaint with Trip Advisor with the hopes that they will be able to develop a system in the future to protect business providers like ourselves from fraudulent reviewers like you. We do however appreciate the fact that Trip Advisor does allow us this forum to address your issue. There was no issue with your room, the guests that stayed before you and after you had no problems. Hundreds of guests have stayed in the artist's room without any complaints. One of your false complaints can easily be verified by anyone. You said in your review above that the room was too hot, when in actual fact it was an unseasonably cold 15°C on the night of August 7th when you stayed which only serves to show that this review is inaccurate and dishonest. Your comment that you paid for two nights and left after one suggests that the accommodation was so far below standard that you felt compelled to leave. In actual fact the circumstances that lead to your departure were vastly different. The events were as follows. Your breakfast on the morning of August 8th was disrupted by a phone call by your employer. After breakfast you and your partner departed to Sandbanks Provincial Park with the season’s pass we so kindly supply to all our guests. While I was out in the afternoon running errands you returned and checked out leaving this voice mail message on my cell phone. “Hi Susan this is...............Unfortunately we have to leave because I have been called into work for a deal that is launching this week, which is unfortunate. I just wanted to say thanks for a wonderful night and I want to give you my credit card for payment please call me on my cell number………thank you very much and speak to you soon.” Upon receiving our invoice for your two night stay you retaliated by posting the fraudulent review above. Our bookings are a minimum 2 nights and our cancellation policy that was acknowledged by your party both verbally and by email clearly states that cancellations are to be made within a minimum 7 days in advance or we reserve the right to charge for the 1st night if we cannot rebook. We are proud of our over one hundred excellent reviews in the last three years. Please continue to stay in hotels as bed and breakfasts are clearly not suited to you and vice versus. With your invoice we offered you a discount to offset the work related circumstance that led to your departure. We now rescind this offer.

I have been to many B&B's and this one has been by far the best experience to date. My husband and I stayed at AWAY for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Let me preface by saying that everything at this B&B is done with thought, care, and attention to detail. The talents and artistic stylings of Glen and Susan really shine throughout the house and the service they provide.
We stayed in the Carpenter's room (the smallest of the three), which was very lovely. The queen bed was comfortable, the temperature of the room was perfect with the A/C and ceiling fan. A personalized card was awaiting us upon our arrival with a vase of fresh flowers. All the comforts of home were provided.
The grounds were beautiful, as were the views. Lavender lines the walkway up to the house while hens roam around freely (fresh eggs in the morning!).
The breakfast on both days was delicious. Always an option of savoury or sweet, both are top-notch (challah french toast with pan fried peaches or smoked bacon/avocado omelette on day 1; blueberry pancakes or eggs benny on day 2). Breakfast is served with coffee and fresh O.J, with a starter of fresh fruit or freshly-baked muffins. Very accommodating for diet restrictions.
Glen and Susan were extremely helpful in giving us all the info needed for the best spots to see (wineries, restaurants, site-seeing, etc).
As we were departing, we were gifted with a take-away bag of fresh muffins from the morning's breakfast and a sprig of lavender from their front walkway (which is now hanging in my car).
I could write an even longer review, but I will end it here. Bottom line, you won't be disappointed! We will be back next year for sure.
Absolutely no cons to staying here at AWAY in the County.
Thanks Susan and Glen!

Our experience was beyond our expectations. From the moment we arrived to the freshly baked muffins to enjoy on our way back home, we felt welcomed. AWAY is one of those special places where you immediately feel like you are part of the family (minus the annoying family members). Oscar (and Glen) were gracious hosts and the breakfasts made by Glen were super delicious. The images on their website are exactly as they protray. Each room (decorated according to three loves: art, carpentry and gardening) is warm, welcoming, comfortable, clean and spacious. Whatever you do, don't stay away. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to go back.

My husband and I were lucky enough to find two nights available for our baby moon.
Susan & Glen didn’t only make us fall in love with their b&b, but with the whole county itself!
They had amazing recommendations and advice. Their location is perfect to get anywhere and at the same time quiet and tranquil.
Breakfast was perfect and hard to decide between the savory & sweet options! The room was stunning and very comfortable.
We could have just stayed in bed looking out the window at the beautiful scenery!
I mentioned I didn’t sleep well the first night due to my pregnancy and the next day I had a lot more pillows and dried lavender waiting for me.
The attention to detail they have is incredible.
Susan is an artist and you can see her work all around the house, together with a very keen eye for aesthetics, this is the place we’ll want to return to year after year.

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of staying with Susan and Glen (and Oscar) last weekend. Everything exceeded our expectations! The grounds were beautiful with veggie and perennial gardens and a quaint path down to the lake and dock - a very relaxing atmosphere. We stayed in the Carpenter's room - which was the perfect size with gorgeous views of the lake and a beautiful bathroom! Their whole home is unique, modern and filled with treasures and art and interesting books and magazines to indulge in. Breakfast matched the rest of the experience - Amazing! I will definitely be back with my boyfriend in the spring as it's a very romantic setting also... Thank you, Susan and Glen - enjoy your season off!
