Chimney Corner is located in the beautiful Margaree River region of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Our site is situated on the Gulf of St.Lawrence and provides twenty-five acres of woodland and private beach for those who wish to escape the world of commercialism and enjoy a quiet, secluded, ocean setting. The property lends itself to reflection and getting in touch with yourself: walking down the birch lined driveway, sitting on a cliff deck overlooking the Gulf, or going to the beach and counting that seventh wave. Enjoy the fresh air, the birds calling, a clear night sky, a stroll to the beach to collect driftwood and search for fossils, along with an early morning coffee or late evening wine on the decks. The cottages provide privacy and tranquility while perched at the edge of fifty foot cliffs. The stressed-out and burnt-out can recharge, and the vacationer can just vegetate. Three-days in a cottage will give you a “taste,” but it takes a minimum of a week to “savour” Cape Breton.

Well, we loved our stay here in 2015 so much, we decided to stay at Chimney Corner Cottages again this year, 2017, We stayed a week near the end of July at the Octagon Cottage, our favourite. It was warmer and we enjoyed the porch and deck by the cliff more this year. Again, if you want quiet, and relaxation, this is the place. What a peaceful stay we had. Out of all the cottages we've researched to rent by the ocean on Cape Breton Island, this place is the best. The sunsets are just beautiful. It's quiet, it's in a great location.....access to the Cabot Trail and the Ceilidh Trail. And of course Jan, Bob, and family are wonderful hosts. Thank you very much, we'll definitely be back again.

We wanted to explore Cape Breton Island and wanted a centrally localed B&B as a base. While cruising the net, I found Chimney Corner and in particular the Octagon Cottage. Looking at the various pictures on the site sealed the deal that we had found our home away from home.

When we arrived at Chimney Corner, we were greeted by the owners, the Wheelers, and shown the way to the Octagon. The Octagon was built by the Wheelers. The inside was unbelieveable and when you looked outside you had the breathtaking view of the ocean. We saw eagles and whales as we ate breakfast one morning and more when we enjoyed a beverage at the Octagon's private deck. Don't forget to go out on the porch and look at the stars. I can't think of another place where you can see all the stars that the universe has to offer!

Sit back and enjoy - you will go back!

Where do I even start?! We stayed 3 nights in the Cliffside Cottage. Wow, wow and wow. I was greatly anticipating our trip to Cape Breton, then when I found Chimney Corners I was like a child waiting for Christmas. I couldn't wait to check in. The Wheelers are superb hosts who gave us the most scrumptious treats! They made us feel as if we'd known them our entire lives. The point of my trip was to find some inner-heeling and peace (that may sound silly to some, but I'm sure some can relate). Well I had to look no further. The views and tranquility that accompanied our quaint cabin were just what I needed. Every care and worry simply disappeared as I watched the sun slowly set each evening while sipping herbal teas on the cliff-side deck. This was truly heaven for me. Thank you Bob for building such lovely cabins with such heavenly views. I'll never forget my stay.

I have traveled many places in the world and have to say this has been one of my favorite places to stay. Bob and Jan are wonderful people who will accommodate their guest with care and grace. I arrived one day late due to a plane cancellation. They did not charge for the night I missed. When I did arrive Jan was baking chocolate chip cookies. She was so gracious to offer and provide several cookies. They were indeed a wonderful welcome for a travel weary guest. They were delicious. The cottage I rented was the studio one. It was more than adequate. It was very clean, spacious, and had every thing one could wish for...including a chilled bottle of wine. The location is perfect for travel through the beautiful Cape Breton National Park as well as the Margaree Valley. There is a restaurant near by that was recommended by Bob (called The Island Resort). It was great. The mussels were impeccable. Over all it was a wonderful stay. My only regret is not getting to know Bob and Jan better. Spending a little more time with them would have made a perfect stay even better.

We had a 3 week trip through Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and this was the best place we stayed. We stayed in the Studio Cottage - a lovely A-frame. We had a great time hanging out and reading on the deck, walking down to the ocean (we loved the rocks!!), and walking to a local beach down the road. The Wheelers are wonderful prioprietors - we had wonderful mornings enjoying breakfast and chatting with them... the breakfasts are not to be missed, nor are the great stories that Bob tells!
Everything was neat, clean, and orderly and the the location is quiet, serene, and very relaxing. The bed was comfortable and we slept very well. The kitchen was small, but had all the necessities. Restaurants and grocery stores are at least 20 minutes away - but there is a variety depending on which way you travel. There is wonderful hiking in the area - very well maintained trails along the coast. We kept trying to get out in the evening for music, but we were so happy at the cottage we just stayed in and relaxed. If we are ever in NS again, we will be sure to stay here again - and for longer!!

My husband and I both agreed this was the best vacation we had ever experienced. The Wheelers thought of every way possible to make our stay at The Octagon Cottage perfect! No detail was too small from the well appointed kitchen and flower boxes on the deck to fuzzy robes waiting for us in the bedroom wardrobe! The cottage itself is a work of art designed, built and decorated by the owners. The location of The Octagon Cottage is totally private with the most breathtaking views imaginable. We can't wait for our return visit next year.

I rented the studio. It was extremely comfortable and I was able to cook dinners there both nights (there is also a bbq for every unit). You may want to check ahead to inquire about places to buy food/wine/and beer because you will probably pass them on your way here, and they are both a little distance away.
The view was amazing, the entire property was quiet, serene, and lovingly cared for. Wifi is spotty, but I was shocked they had it at all! I would stay here again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend you consider the property and book with confidence!!

Most of the guest stay here multiple days but we were passing through and only needed a room for the night. But what a wonderful place this is. The hosts are fantastic and make you right at home. We stayed in their smaller cottage, the Studio. And it was much more than adequate. Plus they have a laundry room so we were able to get caught up in that area. They also treated us with a bottle of chilled wine from a local vineyard and sent us on our way in the morning with some freshly baked oat cake.
A very clean and comfortable cottage.

Jan and Bob are gracious hosts and ready of offer advice and insight into making the most of your stay on Cape Breton. The Cliff Cottage is small, but perfect for two people with a wonderful view over the water. The kitchen had everything we needed to enjoy a meal on our own, the laundry facilities were well appreciated, and the bottle of wine on arrival made it easy to settle in and feel welcomed. The cottages themselves are off the beaten path just a bit, but reasonable drives can get you to where you want to be. Well recommended.

We travelled from Belgium and we found this gem by accident.
If you are looking for something off the beaten cabot trail path, and if you appreciate peaceful and calm surroundings with magnificent views over the ocean then this place is definitely recommended!
Furthermore we appreciated the warm hospitality of Bob and Jan Wheeler. Their personal approach made this stay more than worthwhile!
