Poets Cove Resort & Spa offers a tranquil retreat, as guests rave about its scenic location and appreciate the on-site pools. However, opinions vary regarding the amenities, with some pointing out the need for better maintenance. The staff's friendliness is noted, but efficiency seems to falter at times, particularly at the restaurants and front desk. While the atmosphere in rooms is generally praised, cleanliness and upkeep issues are recurrent topics among travelers, who also question the value for the price paid, suggesting the resort doesn't fully live up to its luxurious promise.

Pender Island is gorgeous, Poet's Cove location is great too. There is superb hiking/biking and farmer's market, plus the hotel pool and harbour are lovely. Go the the restaurant for great dinner in a spectacular setting but consider overnighting elsewhere if you want cleanliness or feeling valued as a guest.

Our family rented a villa for 4 nights. First night we noticed it was very dark in most rooms. Looking up, several light bulbs burned out and we noticed 3-4 moths etc in each lamp. We need more light and it's pretty gross, plus I wonder what the cleaning standards are like (in a pandemic) if all the rooms are like this?

There were other areas that were gross - dead bugs on the mantle, rust drips below the toilet, splatter across the backsplash and on the light above the range, ?dried ketchup on the buttons of the microwave, spider webs on the living room light fixture, etc. The first impression of the unit was poor with broken window blinds by the sidelight of the door. Our toddler found a 2" nail in the carpet luckily it was not sticking upright. I dealt with most of it but with no spare bulbs or vacuum (plus it's our vacation!) not the rest.

I raised the issue of 3 burned out bulbs and collections of insects in all the upright light fixtures on Day 1; it was planned to be dealt with on day 2 at a time we vacated the suite. It was not, so upon returning I spoke to front desk a 2nd time. Vacated, returned, not fixed. I spoke to front desk a 3rd time, and while we were out, maintenance came in, changed 1 bulb, and left the packaging and bugs in the sink/counter of the bathroom. I spoke to front desk a 4th time (in person) and she apologized (a first!), we made arrangements for next AM. In AM, I called the front desk (time 5) to say we were vacating (time 5) and they hadn't heard anything but agreed to get maintenance in. Came back, nothing fixed, duh!

On checkout, I asked to speak to the manger. I was polite but the manager did not come out. The desk agent spoke with the manager, came back and offered us 10% off our stay. We did not take this - we wanted the issue fixed not $$! Rather than wasting our time on FIVE occasions with us being out of the unit so you could fix the problem, they could have said "sorry, short staffed" or some reason. I see no good excuse for the apathy and terrible communication, and when maintenance left the bulb packaging in the sink and bugs on the counter it was very clear how little Poet's Cove valued our patronage.

We have been visiting Poets Cove over the last 7 years, this once great resort is quickly falling into disrepair. Each time we visit we remark that the villa accommodations are in dire need of new paint, carpets, blinds etc. nothing seems to be getting fixed. It appears the ownership are just relying on their location to draw guests however the restaurant has not been open in years, the spa has been closed for the last 3 years, and the pub is quickly going downhill. For the money our family will seek other gulf island accommodation as the pools/views alone are no longer worth the price.

We stayed at the resort for a wedding. The wine glasses in our room still had lipstick residue on the rim. Not a covid clean that’s advertised that’s for sure! The drawer for clothes had a spill in which I wiped out with a wet cloth which was now heavily soiled. The tiled shower literally had slime all around the perimeter BUT on each side of glass door we literally made a line with our fingernail in the slime that went under our
fingernails! Has not cleaned or washed for months. The toilet same. Carpets badly stained and deck cement stained from coffee spills. Mirrors and windows dirty and smeared. Not a 5 star clean or even close. Pool bathrooms extremely filthy. Paper towel empty in all three bathrooms there. We reported immediately of our room and was given a 20% credit. Short staffed but their high prices do not reflect the dirty rooms. Pretty sure that my sheets were not even changed at some point. The grounds are beautiful. Catering food and staff were exceptional. My son and nieces rooms were dirty as well and the fridge was broken. Definitely needs a thorough clean and maintenance to fix items to bring it up from a very 2 - low 3 star to a five star resort as advertised Such a shame as the property is gorgeous!
Watch your bill as well. They took 20% off our stay but when I looked at our booking the price we were locked in to was the price given to us after the 20% discount!
A beautiful location for a wedding venue but other than that when a room makes your skin crawl from filth we cannot go back as much as the location is gorgeous. So sad.

Poet’s Cove Resort & Spa is a lovely, quaint area in a quiet cove on Pender Island. It is not luxury. If you want to spend quiet time with the family in a simple cabin then this is perfect for you. A warning, the cabins do not have air conditioning and it gets quite hot in the summer months. Also, the website states the cabins have ocean views but this is not the case. When we inquired at the front desk that we had reserved a cabin with an ocean view we were told, “all of the cabins used to have ocean views but the trees grew up”. All of the cabins have hot tubs but they are not private at all. They are on a deck in the back where 6 other cabins have an unobstructed view of you. From a value point of view, a cabin at Poets Cove is worth no more than $400 CAD per night. If you can get one for that price it’s good value. Any amount more than that is not worth it, especially when the prices get above $1,000 - $2,000 per night. There are so many other choices for that price that are luxury and are worth that price. The one thing that was exceptional was the facilities person. He was exceptional and gave excellent service

Thank you for your feedback. Yes unfortunately our hotel is built to eco-standards so does not include air-conditioning. August is the hottest month of the year but September or June are a bit cooler for those who prefer a bit less hot. We do have a variety of units available and am sorry to hear the view was not to your liking. Again thank you for sharing your feedback with us and we wish you a wonderful fall season.

Just spent 3 nights as Poets Cove Resort and were very disappointed. First off, I should state that our 2 bedroom cottage was lovely - very cute, comfortable and well equipped with a nice view.
The problem was the noise level and lack of attention from staff. The upper pool is supposed to be for resort guests only but no one monitors it and people from the marina came up constantly. They were noisy, drinking, smoking and created a very unpleasant atmosphere. I raised the issue with staff and their first response was denial and then basically "there is nothing we can do about it". We also could hear noise from the staff accommodation until 3am. Furthermore, people from the community also came to use both the pool and the tennis court.

I should have read other reviews more closely as others have reported similar issues. It is a shame that the Resort does not do anything to protect the interests of their guests who are paying $600/night for the privilege!

The other funny thing was that I had phoned the 1-800 number in advance to ask about the tennis court and the person claimed there was no tennis court and was really rude when I asked them to double check.

We had the opportunity to spend 3 nights in a 2 bedroom cottage with hot tub and view. The location was very beautiful and as there were hardly any other guests, it was very peaceful. Besides that, it was pretty disappointing. Our room was supposed to include a free bottle of wine that we had to ask for on our second day, the floor heating in the bathrooms didn’t work, the tv didn’t work (a cable was disconnected), bathroom lights were burnt out, the heater in the dining room didn’t work, the cottage was not very clean...When you spend that amount of money to stay at a resort, you expect these things to be looked after.

We came here for a couple nights with our children. We were told that spa was closed & only 1 restaurant available. For $500/night, we expected more from this resort - in terms of things to do. Their rooms need to be updated, their kitchen could be cleaner & have more pans/cutting knives/oil/salt&pepper. Nothing except a few pans were provided. Washroom door had a nail sticking out, fireplace remote batteries were dead, limited cable, had to call for more towels which at this price should be automatically provided daily. We were woken up twice with maintenance work above us in the mornings!

Thank you for sharing your comments. Our sincere apologies for the issues during your stay. I have shared these issues with our housekeeping and maintenance team. Unfortunately we do not offer daily housekeeping during the pandemic to avoid entering rooms where guests are present in an effort to keep our staff and guests safe, we do offer supplies at the front desk and deliver if requested. Our apologies if you were not informed of that upon booking. Our Spa and Aurora Restaurant have never been open outside of our summer season. Again this should have been informed when booking so I have passed this information onto our reservation team so they can make sure guests know what to expect during their stay. We value honest and open information to make sure our guests have a good experience. Again thank you for your feedback, it is extremely valuable for us to build on and improve. Kind Regards, Nikki Morgan - Front Office Manager

The location and ambience of Poets Cove are its best features. The pool and hottub are also a nice to have, and the service was good for us. But it would be hard to find anything else to recommend this resort. We are not sure when Poets Cove died, but this is a zombie resort. Built is 2004, it obviously hasn't been updated since and 18 years shows.

The general condition of the room was by far the worst we have ever experienced at this price point. Worse, the condition of the bed and bedding was the worst we have experienced at any price point. Lumpy, stained and blown out. The fitted sheet was stained and no longer fitting and was bunching up all night. The mattress topper was bunching up into ridges as well. The carpet looked worse off than its age would suggest, but generally, the room condition was what would be expected when neglected for so long.

As for cleanliness, this was just as shocking. We didn't have to look in corners or under the bed...we only had to go on the deck...after we put our shoes back on...and found what looked to be a years worth of sticks, moss and pine cones covering it. It would take less than 2 mins with a broom and dust-pan to rectify.

I summary, we cannot recommend this property at this price point. That said, there isn't much else accommodation on Pender, and the location and views are excellent. For Poets Cove, low expectations will likely get you a pleasant stay.

Poets Cove Resort & Spa
Pender Island

After viewing the beautiful pictures of the hotel and accommodations, my husband and I were looking forward to a trip over to Pender Island and to mix business with pleasure. Unfortunately the Poets Cove Resort & Spa is apparently not what it use to be. Even with taking Covidt19 restrictions in mind this Resort lacked in hospitality and professionalism.
The view from our room of the harbour was stunning, but the that was the only landmark part of the visit.
After unpacking our luggage we had an okay meal outside on the deck of Syrens Bistro & Lounge, and stayed to watch the sunset. Feeling the chill we looked forward to warming up in front of our room's fireplace. Unfortunately it did not work and it was the only form of heat in the room. Not looking forward to an extremely cold night in a room with no heat, we phoned the desk and let them know. We received a key to another room and with our clothes and personal belongings hanging from our arms we shuffled from one room to another down the hall. No apologies from the management or help from the staff. But at least this room's fireplace worked.
Even from this room the view of the harbour was still outstanding. However, as I looked around the room and saw; dark stains in the carpet, a sacked out king size bed mattress, water stains on the wood furniture and the chair seats upholstery was so frayed that the foam was sticking out. I could only think,"I am so glad we got this on a Weekend Special" as I could not imagine spending over $400.00 a night on a room like this.
The advertisement for this place reads "The Poets Cove Resort & Spa is the Gulf Islands' Premier Luxury Resort", I am afraid that ship has sailed.

The resort is quiet and beautiful. We had a room facing harbor and mountains, and we woke up with a stunning view the next morning. However, I do want to address our encounter with a front desk staff who made us speechless. When we checked in, I lost my mask. I asked the front desk if I can have a mask. The front desk person said it was difficult to purchase masks so they don't give them out to guests. It was another front desk gave me one. After we got into our room, I noticed the carpet looked very dirty. So we decided to check the bed. We noticed the bottom sheet was very wrinkling one side and we also found hair. I then phoned operator asked to change the sheets as the wrinkling sheet and hair. We were told to leave the room while staff is making the bed. When we went back to our room, we were surprised that the sheets were not changed at all. They were just fold into bed. I phoned the operator again, and it was the front desk person picked up. She said she had personally changed sheets herself. I said the bottom sheet was still wrinkling on one side and hair was still there. She then questioned "you're staying one night, and need 3 sheets?" I said yes because we had concerns if anyone else slept on it prior to our check in. She then said " I will see if I can find one." and hung up. At that moment, I felt very uncomfortable being treated like that. Later she showed up in front of our room, she said again that she had personally changed sheets herself and we need 3 sheets. My boyfriend straight up said she had an attitude, she seemed careless just walked away. While we were making the bed on our own, we found more hair, and two big yellow stains like urine on duvet. It's impossible not to notice them if she had ever changed sheets herself. And even if they were changed, I couldn't believe that she would let them be. Who would be comfortable sleep on that? Definitely not her, because she doesn't care at all!

Hi Marnie, The best room we have for wheelchair access would be in the lodge where there is an elevator to the restaurant. Unfortunately none of our rooms are set up with roll-in showers so it can be a bit difficult. Generally pathways to the ocean have stairs. We would love to make our resort more wheelchair accessible in future renovations but it might not be ideal for you currently. Rates vary from $265-$700 depending on the size . We appreciate the summers here can be quiet hot however our building was built to meet the eco-friendly standards at the time. We also have fans in each of the rooms in main lodge. If you struggle with the heat I would recommend one of our Villas as they have much more space they tend to be quite a bit cooler.
