To understand some of the challenges experienced during our visit it helps to know the ownership story of the HBI. It's a cool story that is very community-based but it has some flaws when it comes to running a professional multi-faceted hotel/campground. Engagement with staff was hit and miss. Some staff were friendly and efficient and others seemed unwilling to make eye contact and would answer in one or two-word replies. To be fully accessible the HBI needs some renovations...if you need assistance with mobility this might not be the place for you. The campgrounds don't look like they receive regular maintenance and in the 4 days we were around didn't see any staff tending to empty sites (either prepping for clients or touching up after clients had left. There was no daily check-in to make sure everything was OK. There is no firewood for sale--so if a campsite fire is your thing--deal with your firewood situation before you arrive. This is a campsite where people are living year round--if that makes a difference to you. The washrooms are open 24/7 and get vehicle traffic at all hours. If you are in the camping slots along the water you hear cars on gravel as they pull up to the washrooms in the middle of the night. The men's washroom takes tokens for the showers--the women's takes loonies (I guess men steal more?). The shower heads in the men's shower was black with crud and one of the toilets didn't feel like it was properly bolted down. Many of these things are details a professionally run Inn/Campsite will cover...but a collection of people that are not necessarily from the business will likely miss. The pub--decent to good food. The entertainment is good to great. You can tell this is a local's watering hole...but tourists don't feel out of place. The overall cleanliness of the facility is good and the vibe is welcoming (how welcoming depends on the staff that greets you).

A peaceful, warm and friendly Inn. The room we stayed in was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the harbour. It was mid September so the place was very quiet but we are very well in the pub/bar where the food was excellent and the staff were super friendly.

Sunday evening 9 or 10 of us dined. I had fish -- it was delicious. Considering our reservation was for 5:30 and a number of us were very late (don't rely on your technology to find hotel), we were served with cheer and efficiency even though it was a busy evening. A person ordered something and wound up with two orders (second one for free). A lovely experience and good food, quite reasonably priced. Stayed at hotel 3 nights and it was fine given that hotel is over 100 years old. People with mobility issues might have trouble climbing the stairs to the rooms. Would have been better if restaurant was open for coffee and breakfast -- no workers available. Had to go to coffee shop a block away, which was fine. Loved seeing the resident cat and boats in bay.

The pub is a great lunch spot. Overlooks the water. I had a salad with the house made avocado dressing which was fantastic. It also has a nice little gift shop. There is also seating outside with wonderful water views and gardens.

We were booked for a weeks camping here. We were staying nearby so we went to check out the site, which we immediately cancelled! What a dump! $64.00 a night to stay in a place that looked like it was a wrecking yard, so unfortunate, old mould covered trailers, broken cement pads, very small unkept sites, nothing like their site map.

Hi Carol, Our waterfront RV park is very tight and not for everyone. I’m sorry it wasn’t up to your liking but we have a ton of return visitors that love it here . I’m not sure what mold covers trailers you are speaking about but we will look further into this . We hope you found the perfect spot to camp!

We did the whole hotel booking and had a prime rib and Yorkshire dinner for 50-ish people .I must say sadly it was the worst meal for $90 possible. The Yorkshire’s were raw and the same size as the muffin tin little dough pucks. I get that sometimes there is a failure, but upon sending an email to management I didn’t even get an apology. Terrible service, terrible food. It seem like we were just a pain in their butts.

We had chicken burgers which were very good. Salad was good. The fries served on other orders were large portions and very tasty. Cold beer on tap and good service. Will be back next year when back on Quadra. There was 7 of us all meals were good. There was a band starting at dinner. We had drinks first as kitchen closed so food did not start until dinner time.

Stopped in for a very late lunch with my 84 year old father on a very hot day. Must have been too much for the server when I asked if we could sit outside, away from the bar crowd. Two kinds of soup or salad were all that was available. After pointing out that we were still outside waiting, the server eventually sauntered out, took our order, then meandered back a while later to say they were out of the soup. At that point I had had enough. It may be a great watering hole for locals, but I wouldn’t waste the $$ on indifferent service and no food.

I am sorry this was the service you received. We are extremely short staffed this season so can only offer soup and salad during some hours when we first open for the day. Some of our lawn areas are self serve and some are full service. Our staff are working really hard to keep us up and running but we do recognize that sometimes we make mistakes. apologies for your not great service it will be brought up with the team. We appreciate all feedback.

A beautiful Heritage Hotel, with all the quirks of an old Hotel. Very friendly staff, and helpful. Amazing setting. Beautiful garden flows out to the waters edge with lots of comfortable seating. Excellent food in dining room or pub. Highly recommend.

On May 29 we were at the Harriet Bay dinning room for dinner. The food was disgusting. The fish in the fish and chips was grey. The batter was not cooked all through. I can’t believe it was cod as indicated on the menu. We all left with a sickening taste in our mouths the rest of the evening. The waitress brought 2 meals and about 10 minutes later brought the other 2 (We were a party of 4). 2 dirty plates were picked up and the other two got got picked up 15 minutes later. The waitress spent more time visiting with the male waiter and didn’t even ask how our food was. We will not be back as it was a rotten experience that we do not wish to repeat.
