Detailed Reviews
Because of Covid we had to rent the entire lodge for eight of us, four couples, and it was great for us, not so great for the lodge owners as it was at a reduced rate. The rooms are basic and there are a total four bathrooms on three floors. The lodge was spotless . The kitchen and gathering area are very large. The lodge is all off grid, but you would never know it. Even a wifi station. I highly recommend taking a tour with them to navigate the currents and tides in the Surge Narrows area. It is just beautiful but timing is crucial. The cost is very reasonable and they have a wealth of information about the area. The kayaks they rent are very high quality and great condition.

DIL was exactly what we were hoping for - the gorgeous location, the views, the lodge itself and the kayaking! Saw sea lion, humpback whale, seals, herons, otters. Lucky to have clear night skies for the incredible stars and the bioluminescence was magical. We had the lodge to ourselves because of covid, and it was spotless and had everything we needed. Great hosts, and our kayak guide Liam was a wonderful storyteller, we learned so much about the area. Thank you, we loved it!!

My husband and I are geriatric kayakers and stayed here for 3 days recently. We cant say enough good things about the staff of 3 young women who took such good care of us. This place runs like a casual group experience with the fine tuning and organization running efficiently, smoothly and humming right along under the surface. We had great guided group kayak trips, assist with routes to take on our own and answers, education and instruction to all our queries.Pricing is affordable in a incredibly beautiful location. We will go back. Thank you Sabina,Gwen and Emmy for a memorable vacation!

Lodge is very clean, food all homemade and delicious. Kayaking was wonderful. Saw lots of marine life like sea urchins, sea lions, starfish. Kate was a pleasure to be with and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this experience.

We stayed at the lodge for four nights, kayaking every day. The two ladies in charge were delightful, helpful hosts. Rooms were inviting and comfortable. The set-up is European Pension style with common bathrooms and a very large common area with kitchen. Breakfast was included and was hearty for all of us outdoor types.

First impression on arrival - unbelievable view and quietness. Simple but sparkling clean rooms. Wood burning sauna right on the water – we were jumping into the ocean to cool down. Then the next morning - the sunrise fills the place with sunshine and warmth. Delicious and healthy breakfasts cooked by Beth. A hiking trail that starts right by the lodge and leads to Surge Narrows – a magical spot by the water that you just don't want to leave. Then back in the lodge – we were admiring colorful sea creatures right from the deck and watching for porpoises and sea lions.
Even for non-kayakers like ourselves – unforgettable experience. We understand that the owners restored the lodge from a neglected fishing farm – with their own hands. Just realizing how much hard work it took to create this paradise – simply made us feel honored to be there – if only for a few short days.
This is one of those places that, once visited, comes back to you in dreams and brings back the sounds, smells and beauty of these islands of discovery...
(Warm hello and thanks to Beth, Lannie and Ralph!)

Stayed at Discovery Island Lodge for three nights. Kayaking, hiking, swimming. Couldn't have been better. Fabulous breakfasts by Beth. Comfortable beds, stunning views, luminescence in waters. Porpoises, Orcas, eagles and friendly staff. Who could ask for more. I am new to kayaking but was made to feel like an expert. Beth is an astonishing guide, both patient and knowledgeable. I never felt safer or more competent. Wonderful trip.

we stayed here in august 2011 before embarking on a four day kayak trip using the lodge's kayak equipment. the place is in an amazing location. it was clean, well kept, quiet and beautiful. however, the lodge staff were less than hospitable. the breakfast was sub par and we were surprisingly denied the proper safety gear before embarking on our trip (extra paddles, floats). the most telling sign to me that the staff were completely disinterested in our well being was when we arrived after four tough days of paddling and not a single person came down to the dock to ask us how our trip went or help us put away the equipment.

what a lovely stay we had here - myself my husband and 2 kids. We were in the stand alone villa - but had breakfast ( delish homemade and fresh and healthy and hearty !) in the lodge with other residents. Good self catering facilities. Staff lovely and helpful. Must say thanks to the lovely Joya - who was wonderful with my children. We took the guided day out sea kayaking with lunch. Had the best time - Alby and Joya were really fantastic - more than just a job for them and we felt really welcome -thanks - and what a FABULOUS lunch - home made bread and salmon salad - with oodles of other goodies and home made cookies - THANK YOU FOR YOR hospitality. TOP TIP - there are mosquitos so go prepared !! go you wont regret it !

This is our second stay at Discovery Island Lodge and we thoroughly enjoyed the outstanding hospitality from the staff at the Lodge. The lodge is well kept and the breakfast was delious and sitting around the breakfast table gave us a chance to meet and chat with people who share a common interest in kayaking and exploring the ocean coast of BC. The kayaking is suitable for persons of all skill levels. We look forward to our third stay at the lodge next summer.

"Rooms at the front have the best view. Note all rooms are beneath the common area on the floor above, so don't expect quiet mornings to sleep in late - but then you won't want to miss the great breakfast anyhow!"Read full review
