First impression on arrival - unbelievable view and quietness. Simple but sparkling clean rooms. Wood burning sauna right on the water – we were jumping into the ocean to cool down. Then the next morning - the sunrise fills the place with sunshine and warmth. Delicious and healthy breakfasts cooked by Beth. A hiking trail that starts right by the lodge and leads to Surge Narrows – a magical spot by the water that you just don't want to leave. Then back in the lodge – we were admiring colorful sea creatures right from the deck and watching for porpoises and sea lions. Even for non-kayakers like ourselves – unforgettable experience. We understand that the owners restored the lodge from a neglected fishing farm – with their own hands. Just realizing how much hard work it took to

Stayed at Discovery Island Lodge for three nights. Kayaking, hiking, swimming. Couldn't have been better. Fabulous breakfasts by Beth. Comfortable beds, stunning views, luminescence in waters. Porpoises, Orcas, eagles and friendly staff. Who could ask for more. I am new to kayaking but was made to feel like an expert. Beth is an astonishing guide, both patient and knowledgeable. I never felt safer or more competent. Wonderful trip.

If you're looking for a lodge from to serve as your base from which to develop your kayak paddling skills, or serve as accommodations for your guided or unguided day trips, or for launching that extended multi-day kayak tour you will not find a more comfortable lodge or beautiful setting, or more capable staff than that at Discovery Island Lodge, and Coast Mtn. Expeditions. The beautiful lodge is in an idyllic setting, right on the water, perfectly located to explore the beautiful waterways and shorelines of the area, by yourself, with assistance and guidance of their wonderful staff, or with others staying at the lodge. The staff is incredibly knowledgable, pleasant and helpful; capable of assisting families with children or older adults and everyone in between in getting

The other reviews from August 2013 say it well. My wife and I spent 2 nights here, and enjoyed it a lot. Great staff went out of their way to make the stay special, up to and including a 'private' kayak tour when the group we were intended to join changed their agenda. Access is via a gravel road with some steep inclines and lots of washboard, so batten down the hatches. Well worth the trip!

Discovery Islands Lodge is a former fishing camp that was totally renovated to serve as a lodge, both for kayakers leaving from the premise, daytrippers as well as a stop over for kayakers on their way through the area. The rooms are immaculate, everything is super clean, the views from each room fantastic. The bathrooms are shared and the kitchen and common area is above the rooms, so do not expect to sleep in here. The staff treated us like family, actually better. The breakfast was home cooked and wonderful. We stayed the night and did an easy day trip locally. Saw lots of wildlife, the paddling was really easy due to the guides excellent route planning, got a delicious lunch underway. All in all fantastic. It takes a while to get out to the lodge, 45 minutes from the ferry,

We stayed two nights here and were sorry to have to come home. A fairly easy drive from Vancouver Island, the lodge is off the grid and looks out into wilderness. Solar power runs the lodge but it is part of the experience and no hardship for the guests. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and provide excellent breakfasts each morning. They also provide guided day-trips or multi-day trips, for a variety of skill levels. You can also go hiking, hang around the lodge and read, take a traditional sauna on the deck or explore the incredible variety of marine life attached to and around the dock area! In the two days we were there people witnessed orca whales, otters, murrelets, nudibranchs, sea cucumbers, a variety of sea stars, kelp crabs, urchins, and more all without leaving

I agree with the other positive comments posted. This wilderness experience was truly magical for us. We spent 2 days there in early September. The 3 staff members we met were helpful and friendly. Our breakfasts were nutritious and delicious. We enjoyed spending some evening time with the other guests. As a bonus a humpback whale came right past the lodge on the day we arrived....wonderful!

The lodge is perfect for any interests or skill level. Owners and staff are ultra friendly. The lodge is rustic yet civilized. They provide an excellent vegetarian breakfast and there are hot solar showers. You can choose activities from sea kayaking (their specialty--rent or bring your own), guided tours, hiking, or just relaxing in the wonderful day room with a sweeping view of the islands and the mountains. We enjoyed talking with guests from around the world. Prices are quite reasonable. I can't wait to come back. The only negative is if you have trouble with stairs, this might be difficult since the lodge, an old converted fish production building, is three stories high. Don't come at night since the lodge is at the end of a gravel road and could be hard to find at night.

I stayed at the Discovery Islands Lodge for a weekend at the end of August this year, and found it to be a wonderful respite from city living. It felt like a true wilderness experience: other than eagle nests and kelp beds, there are no other accommodations close by, and while easily accessible the Lodge doesn’t see many folk other than expected guests because the dirt road to reach it is long, winding and bumpy in places (so don’t forget to pack in your personal items, it is not a quick jaunt back to the Island stores to grab a forgotten toothbrush or bottle of wine). There is no light pollution – at night you will see the milky way and more stars than you thought existed – then reach down and sweep your hand through the water and see an underwater fireworks display which I

I just experienced a weekend of coastal magic at Discovery Islands Lodge and I am definitely planning my return trip next summer. Upon arrival, the hosts were very welcoming and provided us wtih a tour of the Lodge and gave us all of the details for our weekend stay. The view from the Lodge is picturesque- with large decks overlooking the ocean where one can watch passing boats along the Surge Narrows. At night we played with the magical bioluminescense off of the dock and stared up at the millions of stars in the night sky. We met new friends who were also staying at the Lodge and played a hilarious game from the stack of games and puzzles provided. The highlight was the breakfast the next morning -home baked cinnamon buns and hearty porridge, as well as a beautiful fruit
