The rooms vary in size - the first one we stayed in on the main floor was small but comfortable and clean. Like many other Charlotte accomodations, the building is fairly old but is well maintained. Gracie herself is a dleightful character and a lot of fun to talk to.
When we returned from Masset we stayed again at Gracie's, this time in a room upstairs in the main house. It was bright and comfortable, and had a magnificent view of the water and the local dock.
Although not a B&B, there were enough kitchen items to work with to allow you to have cereal and tea/coffee if you so desired (also provided). We would definitely stay here again.
Most people who come here would settle for a semi-dry tent. That's how unbelievably awesome Haida Gwaii is. Gracie's however is a warm, clean, dry, affordable, welcoming place. Gracie is a wonderful, real host. Okay, the rooms are unusual. They don't have much in common with a Ramada. But the small things - coffee makers in every room, desks that look out over the harbor, an actual working wood cook stove in one suite (which Gracie MIGHT let you use if you seem competent), a barbecue on each deck - one that actually works; all these things make a stay at Gracie's like a stay at your favorite aunt's.
If you're looking for an 'excellent hotel' where your every wish is pampered to - I totally recommend the Pan Pacific in Whistler or the 4 Seasons in Vancouver. If however you want a good resting place after a day on the edge of the world - Gracie's will pretty much do it.
it turns out I traded for a dungeon that I wouldn't ever recommend. The "discount" was full price for that room. This is a tired, worn out place - stay there is you want but make sure you negotiate a huge discount from the listed prices.
The 'house' at Gracie's had 2 bedrooms washer/ drier, stove (so dont understand last review) and just sitting either out front or round the back on her 'hill' was glorious.
Gracie's is really quaint with lovely little touches and a real cosy feeling. Gracie is fun and dynamic too.
Friend from Australia felt so at home and contented she really did not want to think about moving on.
Maybe its the place itself, maybe the weather maybe the people we met but we had a wonderful time and I may even use my friends parlance to say it was awesome.
Thanks Gracie
