In the Corsican summer, it was amazing to get to this hotel in the middle of a pine tree forest. Its yellow neon signs are straight out of a spooky film. It's like being in Austria or northern US states more than in a Mediterranean island. It was very windy and our room had two big windows, from which we could hear and watch the pines stir. The room was great, elegant, classic and the bathroom more modern and very good too. I adored reading my book on a small terrace outside, in the forrest, with a jacket and a Cap Corse. The food was good and the little living room in which people drink l'apéro is charming as hell. I can't wait to go back.
My husband and I stayed for one night in Hotel U Castellu while hiking the GR 20. What an amazing hotel and fantastic service! The hotel is literally right off the trail if you are lining south to north. It’s situated by the forest on one side and the road on the other. I was a little intimidated about entering the beautiful hotel because I had been 4 days on the trail. The owner has staff that speak various languages and an English speaking staff was onsite immediately. There was absolutely no hesitation on staff part to make my husband and me feel welcome. We were given room options and we chose one with a terrace so that we could dump our hike stuff outside and not in the room. The room was absolutely beautifully decorated. Simple with beautiful marble tiling in the bathroom. Rainfall shower head (absolutely divine). Comfortable bed. Quiet. (We were so tempted to stay another night) We ate at the restaurant in the hotel. Magnificent! Beautifully cooked. Fresh ingredients. Again. If we didn’t have to leave the next day we would have ordered more and just lingered in the setting. We did not expect such a wonderful haven on the trip. We would definitely return to this hotel and cannot thank the owner and his staff enough for testing us so well. Thank you!!!…
A very noisy hotel indeed. At 11:30 I was obliged to go downatirs and confront the people in the lounge. In their defence they were simply having a conversation. But the acoustics in this hotel are shocking. I hate to think what it is like on their music nights. And the prices charged per night make this place a total ripoff!!!
We staed in this hotel for one night, spending 90 euros. The hotel is very nice: on Vivario mountains, little bit difficult to reach...but very nice. It seems a fable. The shower in our room was wonderful. The staff was kindly.
My lovely wife & I stayed here for a couple of nights while resting up between the northern and southern sections of the GR20. Seldom have I been to a hotel where I have been made to feel less welcome. This was mainly down to the staff who were rude and unfriendly. In fact, one girl who works on reception is probably the rudest French person I have ever met. And as you can imagine, there's some pretty stiff competition out there. Maybe they just don't like hikers, which is odd given their location. Our dark basement room was small, pokey and rather old fashioned. Charmless would be another way to describe it. Just to top things off, our planned early night was ruined by the Saturday music night meaning we were lying awake listening to some talentless crooner belting out a selection of uninspiring tunes when we should have been catching up on our sleep. Awful on so many different levels. …
