We booked as 3 families having a Christmas get together for 3 nights, and it worked very well. Great communication with the hotel. Well received on arrival. The staff were always very friendly. Plenty of space to sit in the evening around 3 roaring log burners in different parts of the guest area. It was a very busy time as there was a family wedding reception taking place while we were there, but the staff still had time to look after us. Room was very nice and plenty of space. A little dated and the bathroom a little tired but very clean. Would definitely return. Disliked · Staffing at breakfast was under par but may have been because it was between Christmas and New Year.
Returned yesterday from Christmas stay at The Boars Head. Stayed Christmas eve untill Tuesday 27th . We checked in complete with doggie and she had more luggage than we did,the receptionist was lovely ,friendly and check in was fast and smooth. We stayed in room 22,it was excellent standard as usuall, plus next to stairs so easy to take doggo out and back with no effort or going through hotel everytime.Upon entering the room we were greeted with a lovely personal card off the owners plus box of biscuits, fruit bowl and chocolates, a lovely welcoming touch. Their was also an itinerary and Christmas quiz and treasure hunt to do.The large beds are super comfy and the room spotlessly clean,e nsuite was well supplied and clean too. The food too much to mention was excellent throughout, plenty of choice and different menu each day.Every day started off with excellent breakfast and the staff were all a joy, helpful and cheerful ,no matter what time of day or night.Christmas dinner was fabulous and although full,it went off like clockwork .Later that evening we were treated to fabulous buffet supper, thought I'd never eat again after lunch !but managed to fit it in plus more delicious pudds All in all food, accommodation was brilliant but what really makes it so special is the personal family feel and welcome everyone gets .Big thanks to John,Gail,Gabby and crew for making Christmas so special for two very full people and one happy doggie.…
Stayed overnigh with Friends and had a really enjoyable, relaxing time. Nicely decorated bar and restuarant serving really good quality food. We had a standard deluxe double on the ground floor which had a good sized, exceptionally comfortable double bed. Room was quiet and had an ample bathroom with decent size shower, with powerful/hot water supply. Breakfast was lovely. One tip i would make to hotel is to maybe add a couple of quid to the room charge and drop the additional £1 charges for addition of items such as mushrooms to the breakfast. Will definitely make a return visit.
We picked this hotel on the internet but didn’t actually know anything about it or what to expect when we got there but what a little gem. The rooms were spacious as well as lovely and clean, in fact all of the hotel was very clean. The food was delicious and great value for money but most of all the staff especially Kirsty, Tash and Harrison were wonderful nothing was to much trouble for them, they are a great asset to the hotel. If I had to be picky the only downfall was the noisy plumbing.
Recently met with a group of friends at the Boars Head. The rooms were fine, if a little tired. Beds were really comfortable. However, what made the stay so successful was the staff and the food. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. At breakfast time all nine of us wanted different options, not necessarily on the menu, but this didn't phase them and everything arrived as requested. We intended to eat there the first night but go somewhere different the following night. But the food was so good the first night we decided to eat there again. With such a large choice you might think they would compromise on the standard or the quality, but not so, we were all really pleased with our meals. We thought the whole experience was very good value for money - the hotel stay, the food and the drinks. Could wholeheartedly recommend.…
Nice big rooms and large bathroom with a shower and corner bath lots of space to kick back. Staff welcoming and helpful from the start . Large premises of main road with good car parking. Big choice of breakfast we had full English and then didn’t need any lunch that day. Choice of so many options. Thanks for the taxi number got us to our reception party and collected us on the way back. Nice clean friendly hotel with good facilities for travellers.
Very disappointed! Went for a family birthday and had roast dinner. Small portions and food not warm enough. Definitely not worth the money! Ask for Diet Coke and got Pepsi. Would not go back there again as expensive for the quality and amount of food we got. We all came home hungry!
Called in for Sunday lunch for 4 without a reservation however we were quickly seated with pleasant enough service. Drinks order taken followed by food order - all absolutely adequate for price and surroundings. Shortly after the restaurant filled with 2 large (noisy parties) and our food was served- Luke warm but agin absolutely fine no need to complain. We finished our lunch without anyone coming to check on us or for drinks top ups. We decided on deserts (the menus had been left in advance) but sat for 30 mins without acknowledgement. Finally went to the bar to pay as we needed to be going and was asked if everything was ok- I commented that we’d have had desert and coffee had we been asked and a floppy haired guy just shrugged and said sorry about that. From a management pov- why not train staff to have better customer service skills? In a time where customers purse strings are tightening and meals out becoming less frequent you could be gaining 40/50% more per table with some slightly friendly and more assertive staff? Although good value for money I wouldn’t return.…
Stayed for one night as we went to Alton Towers (only 25 mins away), staff were amazing from star to finish. The blonde lady who checked us in was so kind, as we walked to our room I even turned to my partner and we both discussed how lovely she was! A warm welcome really makes a big difference! We also dined here and the food was beautiful!! I had the chicken yakitori which the waiter recommended (great choice from him!) and my partner had the SPECIAL prawn curry, which was A-MA-ZING! We also had the yakitori dessert which they allowed us to take back to our room! They even put the football on for us to watch and managed to sit us as close as possible to the TV which was very kind of them. All the staff were friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble and they all were smiling and laughing with customers which we loved seeing! The room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Rooms are a little dated but that didn’t bother us, personally. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and the lady who served us was very sweet. We would definitely visit again if in the area. Thank you all. X…
Lovely location, helpful staff, dog friendly. Food disappointing and poor quality ingredients. Steak was fatty and full of gristle, Thai Curry lacked flavour, chicken overcooked and fried in excess fat. Breakfast tea and coffee of cheap quality.
