First off, other hotels in Port Hardy were booked solid. It was late and we were tired. In between a rock & a hard place! When we walked into the room we did wonder if sleeping in the car was a better option. The room was very old, desperately needing updating & judging from the rickety stairs might even need to be demolished. The bedspreads had seen a better day and who knows when they were last washed. I ripped the sheets down to the mattress to check for bedbug evidence but saw none so it had that going for it. However the pubic hair in the bath tub and the worn man's underwear in the closet was not evidence of a thorough cleaning. Would not recommend.

I came in late last night on the ferry from Prince Rupert. It was raining and i got lost ... i will blame Google as it was actually easy to find and close to the centre of town, a couple of km. The fellow who checked me in was really pleasant and helpful, especially given the time it was almost 1:00pm

The room was decent, it is a budget motel, but it was clean, quiet and I slept well.

It perfectly met my needs for the night.

Thank you

Very clean and basic rooms. Friendly. No wifi in room (28), good wifi at front desk; missed business arrangement as a result. No restaurant at the inn, but amazing food at next door restaurant SUSHI HARDY. Photos on website of Pioneer Inn are misleading, but room rate is cheap. Pet friendly.

Think twice about booking this hotel if you want a decent place to stay. Put simply, the place is a dump! Furniture that looked like it was found on the roadside (70-80s vintage), paper thin walls and ceilings, overpriced fees for pets and possibly a health hazard.

When we arrived, I was shocked that the exterior looked like something from a horror movie - a remake of the Bates Hotel could use it. Paint worn off old wood, and old barbecues spewing smoke in front. Most of the tenants were male workers, possibly from nearby worksites, who socialized outside their rooms in the evening and cooked on these barbecues right outside rooms.

The manager said I had to pay $20 a night for each of my three dogs. That totalled $180 for the three nights booked. Before I even arrived at the hotel (around 9 am), the room cost was charged to my credit card. I have never been charged prior to check-in anywhere else.

When I saw my room, I wondered what the pet fee was covering. The room was so old and run down, I highly doubt think a dog could make it worse. For example, the pullout sofa bed was quite dingy and I was scared to touch it. The blanket on the pullout had holes.

The bathroom actually had no plug ins or counter. So I had to dry my hair over the kitchen sink. The microwave was above the fridge and very difficult to reach. Anyone shorter in height would be out of luck.

The smoke detector was missing from the wall but I later spotted it under the TV. I forgot to check if it was functioning. The TV did not have many channels but did offer some pay-for porn channels.

Here is the biggest joke: 24 hours after I left, the manager phoned me. The next customer in the room said the next morning that a dog peed in the carpeted bedroom, and the old dirty sofa bed was in bad shape. The manager put another $100 on my credit card. He removed it after I argued. I did not see any evidence of pee before I left, and obviously the person who cleaned the room did not see anything, since nothing was said until another customer complained. The room smelled like dust snd strong lemon cleaner when I arrived. Who knows what actually happened, if anything. My dogs stay in hotels all over Western Canada and even 5-star places, and I never before had a complaint.

I will definitely not be staying here again.

Horrible horrible stay! The whole room had a horrible dirty feeling which just made you want to run away! It seemed that the sole purpose was to just scam money out of you as there were signs everywhere telling you about how it would cost $500 if so and so happened.

The inn itself looked like it came out of a horror movie!

The interior was even worse, with black towels and sheets (who even does that?!?) and old furniture which looked as though it had been rescued from a tip.

The room was booked for 4 people, but it only just catered for 3 with a room the size of a coffin equipped with a tiny single bed and a small double with ghastly black sheets.

The kitchenette (if it can even be called that) was falling apart and a literal safety hazard!

The bathroom was small and had tiny black towels which you couldn’t tell whether they were dirty or not!

Quiet , clean 2 room unit. We slept well on the hide-a-bed. The general manager was friendly, there was coffee in the lobby, a freezer for fish, a full kitchen including a microwave in family room. They had room in back if we needed for boat and trailer. For five people it was a good choice. The outside is old but our room was more than adequate. We were we would again.

I booked two rooms by phone and asked for confirmation by email. I was told they don't do email confirmations. When we got off the ferry at 11:30 pm we headed straight to the motel. The man at the desk looked for our reservation and after 15 minutes of a back and forth conversation through his google translate, he told me to move aside. When I asked what he would do for us he turned away to help other people standing in line. One other couple also had made reservations by phone and was told that they had no reservation. By 12:15 am we discovered that there were no hotel rooms available anywhere. Through the kindness of strangers we got accomodations for a few hours of sleep.

The motel looks a little tired from the outside but we had no real complaints. The rooms were clean and the bed very comfortable. The location is so quiet that we slept really well. The Inn is in a beautiful spot a shirt drive from Port Hardy and there's a lovely walk down to the river through the Quatse Salmon Centre just opposite. We enjoyed our stay very much, our only disappointment was the lack of kettle, just a fridge, microwave and coffee pot in our room.

The room was clean, comfortable, and roomy. The bathroom was nicely updated.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
An easy 10 minute drive to the ferry terminal.
There were delicious cookies at the front desk upon check in which was a pleasant surprise.
I would recommend the Pioneer Inn.

The Pioneer is located right on the river a couple km south of Port Hardy. A beautiful loop trail that goes all the way into town leaves from the Inn & follow the river to the estuary & on into town. The room has everything that's needed & is more spacious than more modern rooms. Great value. Quiet place suitable for couples, family or business travelers.
