First off, other hotels in Port Hardy were booked solid. It was late and we were tired. In between a rock & a hard place! When we walked into the room we did wonder if sleeping in the car was a better option. The room was very old, desperately needing updating & judging from the rickety stairs might even need to be demolished. The bedspreads had seen a better day and who knows when they were last washed. I ripped the sheets down to the mattress to check for bedbug evidence but saw none so it had that going for it. However the pubic hair in the bath tub and the worn man's underwear in the closet was not evidence of a thorough cleaning. Would not recommend.
Very clean and basic rooms. Friendly. No wifi in room (28), good wifi at front desk; missed business arrangement as a result. No restaurant at the inn, but amazing food at next door restaurant SUSHI HARDY. Photos on website of Pioneer Inn are misleading, but room rate is cheap. Pet friendly.
I came in late last night on the ferry from Prince Rupert. It was raining and i got lost ... i will blame Google as it was actually easy to find and close to the centre of town, a couple of km. The fellow who checked me in was really pleasant and helpful, especially given the time it was almost 1:00pm The room was decent, it is a budget motel, but it was clean, quiet and I slept well. It perfectly met my needs for the night. Thank you
The Pioneer is located right on the river a couple km south of Port Hardy. A beautiful loop trail that goes all the way into town leaves from the Inn & follow the river to the estuary & on into town. The room has everything that's needed & is more spacious than more modern rooms. Great value. Quiet place suitable for couples, family or business travelers.
I booked two rooms by phone and asked for confirmation by email. I was told they don't do email confirmations. When we got off the ferry at 11:30 pm we headed straight to the motel. The man at the desk looked for our reservation and after 15 minutes of a back and forth conversation through his google translate, he told me to move aside. When I asked what he would do for us he turned away to help other people standing in line. One other couple also had made reservations by phone and was told that they had no reservation. By 12:15 am we discovered that there were no hotel rooms available anywhere. Through the kindness of strangers we got accomodations for a few hours of sleep.
Cleanliness was ok, but the lobby smelled very heavy of smokers…kinda unwelcoming at first…we also had no water but they fixed that immediately and explained why it was off so that was no big deal…the room was good for one night before heading out for the nct and I would stay here again…just don’t expect a Hyatt experience! Again, one night fine, extended stay you may want to look elsewhere…I should admit tho that the price was really good so value is good…
The hotel was of reasonable quality given the price. This is in comparison to other hotels in the area that I looked at. There is a river close by that is nice to hear when you leave your room. I also spotted 6-7 bald eagles hanging out in a tree above the river by the hotel. It was really cool if you're into that sort of thing :)
Stayed in the RV park on a couple extended stays...they don't cram you in so tight that you have no space. Quiet, right next to the Quatse River...come watch the salmon run and bears along the river. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stays here. Had family come up in July, all stayed at the Pioneer Inn next door. Rooms are dated but clean and provide you with a warm comfy bed next to the hatchery on the Quatse River. Nice place for people on a budget.
Don’t waste your time here! I booked a room for a couple friends coming off the ferry, called the day of to confirm. The guy yes, it’s booked, I talked to you yesterday, etc. Well my friends get off the ferry, late, needing a place to rest their heads before they continue down the island, just to find out the idiot didn’t actually book the room. So he took my credit card information for no reason? You would think because of the mix up, they would help the people out and find a room in their hotel or even give a suggestion to another hotel. Nope, nothing. DO NOT waste your time or money here. Unless all you need is a shower, spend the extra 30$ for a better hotel room.
Came off the BC Ferry from Prince Rupert. Pioneer Inn was perfect for us as we just needed a shower and a few hours sleep before continuing on to Victoria. Reasonable easy to find. Close to the ferry terminal but best if you have a vehicle. Fairly busy place at 11:30pm after the ferry arrives. Clean. Reasonably comfortable. Not new or modern but just enough for our needs. The most important point: pet friendly.
