The room was decent, it is a budget motel, but it was clean, quiet and I slept well.
It perfectly met my needs for the night.
Thank you

When we arrived, I was shocked that the exterior looked like something from a horror movie - a remake of the Bates Hotel could use it. Paint worn off old wood, and old barbecues spewing smoke in front. Most of the tenants were male workers, possibly from nearby worksites, who socialized outside their rooms in the evening and cooked on these barbecues right outside rooms.
The manager said I had to pay $20 a night for each of my three dogs. That totalled $180 for the three nights booked. Before I even arrived at the hotel (around 9 am), the room cost was charged to my credit card. I have never been charged prior to check-in anywhere else.
When I saw my room, I wondered what the pet fee was covering. The room was so old and run down, I highly doubt think a dog could make it worse. For example, the pullout sofa bed was quite dingy and I was scared to touch it. The blanket on the pullout had holes.
The bathroom actually had no plug ins or counter. So I had to dry my hair over the kitchen sink. The microwave was above the fridge and very difficult to reach. Anyone shorter in height would be out of luck.
The smoke detector was missing from the wall but I later spotted it under the TV. I forgot to check if it was functioning. The TV did not have many channels but did offer some pay-for porn channels.
Here is the biggest joke: 24 hours after I left, the manager phoned me. The next customer in the room said the next morning that a dog peed in the carpeted bedroom, and the old dirty sofa bed was in bad shape. The manager put another $100 on my credit card. He removed it after I argued. I did not see any evidence of pee before I left, and obviously the person who cleaned the room did not see anything, since nothing was said until another customer complained. The room smelled like dust snd strong lemon cleaner when I arrived. Who knows what actually happened, if anything. My dogs stay in hotels all over Western Canada and even 5-star places, and I never before had a complaint.
I will definitely not be staying here again.
The inn itself looked like it came out of a horror movie!
The interior was even worse, with black towels and sheets (who even does that?!?) and old furniture which looked as though it had been rescued from a tip.
The room was booked for 4 people, but it only just catered for 3 with a room the size of a coffin equipped with a tiny single bed and a small double with ghastly black sheets.
The kitchenette (if it can even be called that) was falling apart and a literal safety hazard!
The bathroom was small and had tiny black towels which you couldn’t tell whether they were dirty or not!
The staff was friendly and helpful.
An easy 10 minute drive to the ferry terminal.
There were delicious cookies at the front desk upon check in which was a pleasant surprise.
I would recommend the Pioneer Inn.
