We spent two nights in this motel( not hotel) in the first week in September. We had two room as we where here with anther couple. The rooms are generous and clean with large well equipped bathrooms. We had two nice comfortable beds( two queens each room) with a nice selection of pillows. The rooms where main level and lake front with handicap accessible features as requested. Each room had a tiny deck as well. Parking was good and the hotel was busy. It was very quiet and the exterior was also well maintained with huge flower baskets being well cared for. I’m not sure what the Spa title refers to these features where not evident. We enjoyed our time here although for the very high cost of the stay per night there was no tables in the room or in the lobby indeed anyplace on the grounds that we could sit and play cards at! The rooms where big enough for a small table but there wasn’t one and one was not offered. This limited our enjoyment of this stay together. The hotel insisted on an additional 150.00 damage deposit on top of a 300.00 per night charge which seemed unnecessary to two retired couples visiting a quiet park, but this was returned on check out. In closing I would say you are largely limited in hotel options in the park a detail I would say that is not lost to the man that owns most of the town. Would we return Yes but we would stay a short distance outside the park and come in for the day. The lake and vistas are truly wonderful and worth the drive to enjoy! Oh too bad that you also now have to pay to go into the park! But still it is worth the travel as there are many lovely natural treats tucked away in the park even for the older crowd!

Overall a nice hotel with good space in the rooms. Was just disappointing that after an entire wedding celebration with family and friends in their complex that we couldn't check out 2 rooms a day earlier than planned. Even if we were late in their 72h cancellation policy. Our room as bride and groom was also a joint room with door in between which made a poor sound isolation between the 2. Was also a bit disappointed about it.

Just read a review from Mr. 333 that mentions that he paid $19. for shrimp. Does he know he is 10 Km. from the worlds best beef and he orders shrimp. Waterton is not within 1000 km of any water that has shrimp. In order to be fresh it has to be flown in. When in Alberta, order beef. It is like ordering a McPizza at McDonalds. Just to be pretentious he orders shrimp, your fine for that order is ....$19.00 Now to mention Jason from Med. Hat when you order a room it says that you get a lake view or no view. You sir, ordered a room without a view. I checked all the rooms in Waterton National Park and the room you got for what you paid was fair. Mentioned the condition of the room as well, all three National Parks sell rustic. Expect rustic, If you want metal and glass stay in Calgary. When we were there we had the burger. I was one of the best I've ever had. The view of the lake was obscured by trees but that too is what I expected in a National Park.

We stayed in a deluxe room with a separate bedroom which we really appreciated. It was on the water side with a partial view of the water and mountains. Even though the hotel is on the water it is difficult to impossible to get a room with a true water view because trees have grown between the hotel and water. The room was clean, quiet, and everything worked. The beds were superb. The bathroom is small but the main living room was larger than normal and well appointed. We stayed four nights and would even liked to have stayed longer. We had a great time.

First of all, you must understand the word LAKEFRONT in this hotel/motel. To most people, "lakefront" means in front of a lake. However, the owner of this property says otherwise. He is saying Lakefront room does not guarantee you a room in front of the lake. Their property is technically a "lakefront property", so if you are given a room not in front of the lake, you are still technically in their LAKEFRONT property, so you will be charged for a Lakefront room price. Before you get carried away with the description LAKEFRONT ROOM, you MUST understand this hotel's different interpretations of LAKEFRONT vs LAKESIDE vs LAKEVIEW. You MUST read EVERY SINGLE DISCLAIMER, EVERY SINGLE WORD, EVERY SINGLE DESCRIPTION of the room before you jump into the conclusion that you will get a room in front of the lake that has a lakeview. It is NOT THEIR FAULT. IT IS YOUR FAULT IF YOU DON'T READ CAREFULLY. You will be sorely disappointed when you are given a "LAKEFRONT/MARINA" room, thinking you can "enjoy the cool breeze off the lake while you sip your morning coffee or wind down after a day of adventure" as described in their website. If you don't, and want to complain, they will tell you that you did not read their description carefully, because it says, "not all our lakefront rooms have clear lake views. There are trees that impede some of the view in some of the lakefront rooms. Lakefront rooms facing the Marina have the Marina Parking lot to the left but water in front. Our rooms are Lakefront but not all have a clear lake view". Having said that, you ARE PAYING the same price as those rooms that are actually facing the lake. Rooms 102, 104, 106, 108, 110, 202, 204, 206, 208, 210 are considered Lakefront/Marina view room, although these rooms are not in front of the lake, but perpendicular to the lake. Now I learn something new. Perpendicular to something means the same as in front of something. Go Figure!! If you think a Marina view doesn't sound that bad, right? Marina can be nice too. You are WRONG! These rooms do not face the lake and have little view of the marina. You do see some marina through the big trees. But you mostly see the big parking lot, which is the busiest parking lot in the whole town. These rooms sit perpendicular to the lake. Rooms 110 and 210 are closer to the lake (but still the majority of the view is the parking lot). Room 102 and 202 are the furthest from the lake (meaning even more parking lot view). We stayed in room 210. After a day's activities, we were hoping to get back to the hotel before dinner and relax a bit. BUT NO!! All we heard were non-stop cars entering and leaving the parking lot and slamming of car doors, cars starting their engines. Also, located in the parking lot is the sign that says "WATERTON-GLACIER INTERNATIONAL PEACE PARK" where almost every tourist (including ourselves) would take pictures. All day long (until it gets dark), groups of people would stop there to take pictures. You can hear "one, two three" all day long, and lots of people talking and laughing. The path along the front of these rooms leads to the lake, so lots of foot traffic goes in front of these rooms. If you enjoy all the noise and the view of a marina parking lot, while paying $370 per night, then these rooms will be your choice!! I have uploaded some views from room 210 balcony, looking left, centre and right. These pictures were taken very early in the morning, so you don't see a lot of activities yet. You can see the main view is parking lot, and then the trees, and in between the trees, you can have a glimpse of some boats. If you stick your neck out, and look to the right, you can see a little bit of the lake. This is LAKEFRONT/MARINA view!! If you book your Lakefront room through Expedia, you will not see all the warning about the marina/parking lot. It says "Classic Room, 2 Queen Beds, Lake Front", and then it says Lakeview. Very misleading!! Unless you actually go to the official website of the hotel and dissect every word about the room description, you will not know you may be given a parking lot view room as their "LAKEFRONT room". About the property: The whole property is a renovated motel complex. Our room 210 was dark, and on the small side and are not as nice as the ones that are on the website. I saw the picture on the website with a bathroom with a nice size vanity. Don't be deceived! It looks like they used a wide-angle lens to make the vanity a lot wider than it is. My room's vanity is 2 feet wide (Yes, I measured it). With the sink in the middle, there is no space to put anything. The only other place to put your toiletries is on top of the toilet tank. With regard to the room safe, it is a joke. It was placed on the shelf above the cloth hanging area. Unless you are 6 foot tall, you will have a hard time retrieving items from the safe (and no, there is no step stool in the room). On their website, it says LAKEFRONT room has 4-piece bathroom. There is a tub with a shower head, a toilet and a small sink. Cannot find the 4th piece!! And I did not see a disclaimer that a 3-piece bathroom is the same as a 4-piece bathroom. Overall, I am very disappointed with this hotel's way of describing their rooms and misleading travellers. It really ruins their experience. Waterton only consists of 2 streets, and all other motels/hotels are walking distance to the lake. I will recommend people to book other properties, and you will still have nice views of the small town and the surrounding mountain, and a better chance of enjoying a quiet afternoon. . Definitely not worth the price to stay in this "LAKEFRONT" property. Very overrated! To Management: I read some of your "explanations" from other reviewers about getting a LAKEFRONT room with parking lot view, including that a person should book directly with the hotel, and can request rooms. Here is one of your response to a misled traveller who stayed in your hotel: “We always suggest booking directly with the hotel as you can make room requests, easier cancellation, better rooms go to direct booking with us rather than expedia or booking.com (they get obstructed marina rooms automatically as negotiated) and the best rates are always booking directly.” I did book directly through your official website, but still get a parking lot view room!! Come on, start taking some responsibility that YOU ARE MISLEADING PEOPLE!!! First of all, most people have not stayed in your property before, and believe what they see on your website, including those nice photos with a lake in the background. Are you implying that for those people who didn't know Lakefront rooms are the same as parking lot view rooms, that it is their fault because they did not call your property to clarify and request? When you said “We always suggest booking directly with the hotel as you can make room requests, easier cancellation, better rooms go to direct booking with us rather than expedia or booking.com (they get obstructed marina rooms automatically as negotiated) and the best rates are always booking directly.” , Can you clarify where people can see this instruction that “YOU ALWAYS SUGGEST” I did not see it. Did you put in some instructions or disclaimer on your website, to tell people that they will only have a real Lakefront room (a room that is really in front of the lake) if they call your property directly to book? Did you put in a disclaimer on your website that if people book through 3rd party site, that there is a bigger chance they will get a parking lot view? Please don’t make excuses, other than you try you best to rip people off! Also, I read that you WILL change the parking lot rooms into standard rooms IN THE FUTURE. Why IN THE FUTURE? WHY NOT NOW? Is it so you can still rip people off for the rest of the season? YOU ARE A VERY DISHONEST BUSINESSMAN. To travellers: YOU MUST READ SOME OF THE 1& 2-star review, and the excuses and "explanations" that this owner gave. The more you read them, the more you feel angry. Right now, it sounds like if you book a LAKEFRONT/MARINA room, you will have a 1/3 chance of getting a parking lot view room, while paying for the Lakefront price. This hotel’s description has catches and disclaimers, and not straight-forward. Take your money somewhere else!

I am so sorry you were disappointed. Reviews help us learn & grow as a company and as individual managers. The needs of our guests are constantly changing and we want to be quick to adapt the best we can with the limitations we face as a seasonal hotel only open 4 1/2 months a year especially during the past few shortened restriction filled COVID years. We read each review at a department head meeting at the end of the week and make the necessary adjustments for our future guests. Do i think we can improve? for sure and we have made adjustments reading your review. Do i agree with your entire review, especially the verbal attacks to the owner, the name calling....no i do not. Do i think you just felt like putting a family owned and operated Alberta businesses as far down as you could? yes. Do i think you went to far in this review? yes, i do. There is constructive criticism and we learn from that. Your pictures further reinforced that we we are lakefront and we are very specific to write on all our reminder and confirmation emails before you arrive as well as on our website that we are Lakefront, but not all rooms are are lakeview and yes the Marina is in the lake. I am so sorry you were so disappointed and i hope you return to this magical village and experience all Waterton has to offer but i hope you choose to stay at one of the other quaint rustic lodges in the park. We are a village full of seasonal rustic lodges and among them we are the best with the best location just completing a renovation to all guest rooms consisting of new drapes, new furniture, 50'TV's, beds, bedding, art , wall coverings and lighting. Waterton, including all the rustic lodges and restaurants is the charm of this park and i hope you are able to enjoy it on your next visit as that is what you should be focusing on, not the view from the room 10 doors down from you.
