Mills Landing Cottages is situated on the beautiful west side with the boardwalk and paths (rather than cars and roads), the stunning Brady's beach, the mercentile store and its social gathering place out front. We had a wonderful, cozy stay in the clean, one-bedroom cottage with a lovely patio overlooking the inlet. Everything we needed was there. Diane and Jerry are warm, generous and kind hosts. We came to Bamfield with my mother who lived there in the 1950's with my father (a local teacher) and two babies. Diane and other kind souls supported us in rediscovering our history and helped make our trip truly memorable.

This was my 3rd annual Spring time trip to Mills Landing and each time it gets better and better! My April 2011 visit was the first time I got to meet Jerry & Diana, the new owners of Mills Landing. They took over the operation in the Fall of 2010 and have really done a great job addressing the little things that make a trip like this comfortable and satisfying for their guests. They live on site, give the operation the attention it needs and run it in a professional business like manner. The upgrades to the cabins are very nice; they're clean and comfy with all the necessary ammenities for our 4 day stay.

Jeff our fishing guide is very knowledgeable and professional. He put us on the fish each time out, whether we were targeting halibut, salmon or rocfk fish. The whale show was a bonus!

The day after our fishing charter, we arranged with Jeff to do a 2 hour sight seeing tour of the Broken Islands and Barclay Sound; the scenery is rugged, wild and spectacular! The backdrop of snow capped mountains in the distance really has to be seen to be fully appreciated; the whales surfacing and spouting with the mountains in the background is a vision I will never forget! The multitude of remote, isolated beaches just beg to be explored and the usual wildlife like eagles, seals and sea birds are so common you kind of take them for granted after awhile. Bring your cameras!!

Jerry & Diana have more ideas for adding to the facilities and I can't wait to see that. They have a proper business vision for Mills Landing that is refreshing and realistic. My buddy and I are thinking our annual trip to Bamfield should be twice yearly now.

Bamfield is a beautiful wild place to visit and Mills Landing is a great place to stay to enable people to have the true West Coast Vancouver Island experience!!

Arriving after a rough 1.25 hr boat ride from Port Alberni with the family and loads of gear there was no one there to check us in. I talked to other pissed off guests who claimed they were asked to leave, to accomodate a large corporate group. Over an hour later the corporate group shows up and I was informed that the room I booked months in advance was given to the corporate group and there were no rooms for the night.

I could understand an honest mistake, however Mills Landing Knowingly Overbooked due to Greed. They're a big disappointment.

GRRRRR!

If you want a self catering cottage at the heart of Bamfield with superb views, this is the place for you. The cottage we hired was well appointed with superb facilities and views. The kitchen was well equipped, and the living space was comfortable with a large deck with views over the harbour.
It's an excellent base for fishing with all the necessary facilities just a few yards from the cottages. Jerry and Diane were the perfect hosts whose knowledge of the local area was second to no none.
The place is only accessible by water taxi or boat, you cannot gain access by vehicle - but when you're there for the sea, you don't need a car. The water taxi will at Mills Landings so you won't have far to carry your stuff.
If you're looking for self catering for a large group or family, this is is for you.

We spent 6 days at Mills Landing. The owners, Jerry and Diane, were very friendly and extremely helpful. They made us feel right at home. Jerry met us over in East Bamfield, which we drove to from Port Alberni. He then ferried us and our luggage over to West Bamfield were Mills Landing is located.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom cabin #3 and it was perfect. Kitchen with pots, plates, cutlery and glasses etc. Lots of fresh, clean towels and the beds were super comfy. There was also satellite tv available for a rainy day. If you need anything the owners are always willing to help out.

The grounds are superb and relaxing. Lots of room for our 2 year old to play and explore. The cabins all look out onto the waterfront and the view is beautiful.

We didn't go fishing but heard great stories about it. We had a great time exploring the beaches and boardwalks. The whole community is welcoming and friendly.

We hope to return one day soon to this gem of a location. We haven't had such relaxing time in ages. I created an account to just write this review.

we come since a couple of years everytime in August and enjoy a couple of days fishing (at least we try to catch something). We stay always at the large cabin which has two floors. Main floor offers a large living room, kitchen as well sleepingroom and bath. While upperfloor has another sleeping rooms (for 4) as well bath and toilet.
the cabin are always cleaned well and the owner take care. You also can see that they work a lot around the house to make the place every year better.
Renting the cabin you get a place for your boat as well there is a fish cleaning station as well freezer. Ice and fishing tackles you can get there too.
check it out - but surely if the fishes are there a nice place to spend some good quality fishing time...

I have stayed here on 3 consecutive annual fishing trips.
The owners are to be commended for improving the facilities each year.
New BBQ's, Wifi, and new beds are welcome improvements.
We will be returning next year.

Caught over 80 lbs of fish in 3 days. They processed and packed all of it for us. Friendly welcome when we arrived with a relaxing 10 minute board walk along the ocean. Rooms were clean and nice. Helped us with fishing permits, styrofoam coolers for the way home and EVERYTHING in between. There guide Jeff was AWESOME! Even took us to his secret honey hole for fishing. Safety on the water was important to the guide, nice to see, I had family with me. My daughter was thrilled with her 42 lb. Hali that she caught! Can't imagine anything that would have made this trip better!!! I'm in for next year!

We stayed in one of the 1-bedroom cottages for two nights and had a great visit. Clean and well appointed cabins. It's not a hotel room it's a cottage so bring coffee. There is a market a 15 minute walk away along the boardwalk that has everything in case you forgot some essentials. Beautiful views along the boardwalk and along the roads of the west side. There is cell service at the store and in some places along the boardwalk. Pet friendly! We can't wait to go back. The town is filled with friendly, hospitable locals and a peace and tranquility that was so welcome. Jerry took us on a successful fishing trip and we had a grand time on the water with our charter captain!
