Beach Garden Resort was our first stop on our summer motorcycle trip. Very large property on the ocean across from a smaller marina. The newer part of the resort is lovely with large, well kept oceanview rooms and a large balcony. There is an on-site restaurant but with limited hours and a liquor store too. Sadly, the resort has seen better days. Most of the rooms in the older parts of the resort were closed and not been used for a long time. We would definately stay again as the location is good and very quiet as it's away from the main road and good value.
A nice place to stay with a incredible ocean view to watch sunsets, with a balcony where you can stay per hours watching the sun goes down and look for whales, dolphins or eagles; there is a pool but I didn’t went but next time for sure I will!
The view is spectacular and is the highlight of the resort. The buildings are being renovated, but still seems dated and need a bit of TLC. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Wifi worked. Lots of parking available.
If you’re considering booking a stay at the Beach Gardens Resort and Marina, I would strongly advise against it. Be vigilant about staying here. Due to the lack of decent hotels in the area this may seem like a good option. But I would advise anyone traveling to Powell River to stay elsewhere as there are extremely unethical people running this place. I stayed at the Beach Gardens Resort and Marina for 1 night, Aug 12-13, while traveling to the Sunshine Coast. I was informed at check in that a $200 damage deposit was to be charged to my credit card in addition to the nightly room rate. There was a notice in the room asking guests to leave the key cards in the room at check out and an invoice would be emailed the following day with the final room charges. I followed the instructions and left my key cards on the dresser when I checked out. A few days after my check out I contacted the hotel as I hadn’t received an email with my receipt and the deposit had not yet been refunded. I was told by Cheryl Ilott, the Rooms Division Manager, on Aug 15th, that the deposit had been released the next day. The message I received from Cheryl stated, “We released it the next day on our end and it is now up to your bank when they do it.” Cheryl Ilott. The message was abrupt and to the point, but it was clear from her message that the property was confirming that they had released the $200 damage deposit that was charged to my card and any further delay was due to my bank. Another 5 days had passed and there was still no refund, so on Aug 20th I contacted my bank to inquire about the transaction. My bank confirmed that the charge had not been refunded by the hotel and asked me to request proof of the refund so I could file a dispute and they could release the funds. When I reached out to Expedia to see if they could assist with getting proof from the hotel, I was told by the Expedia agent who contacted the property on my behalf that the TV was broken and that’s why the funds had not been released. Firstly, I never caused any damage to the TV or any of their property for that matter and I was never informed of any of this by the hotel nor did they email me a receipt of my stay as is their protocol upon check out. As I have never been accused of damaging a hotel room, I’m not sure if this is the norm in the hospitality industry, to just withhold the damage deposit without contacting the guest directly to let them know of the pending charges to their credit card. Either way the claim against me was untrue and the way in which the hotel staff handled it was extremely unprofessional. These people are clearly dishonest and desperate! How is it that on August 15th I was told by their Rooms Manager, that the deposit had been refunded and then on August 20th, the story changed completely and I’m being accused of damaging their TV. Overall, I just feel really badly for the hotel employees and management. To have to resort to such unethical business practices and wrongfully accuse innocent people, just to generate income is just tragically pathetic. So many people and businesses, specifically those in the hospitality industry, have been hit hard by the pandemic. I have a lot of empathy and compassion for anyone who has lost their job or has fell on hard times but that is certainly no excuse to lie and charge people for damages they did not cause. It’s very sad that there are people like this who lack integrity managing this hotel. I sincerely hope that these desperate people don’t have to resort to lying and defrauding their guests for much longer.…
A quirky compound and rooms, but the view + location on the water + mini beach trumps it all - very soothing + relaxing + enjoyable + comfortable + safe. Definitely the best hotel on offer in PR (we also checked the others - no comparison, especially on waters edge). Large resort area + grounds + carpark with many buildings (most shabby) - with one building is renovated as the hotel (reception is in another building, as is the pool + gym). Looks like it had its heh day in the 80's and would have been luxurious in its time - some great old architecture to renovate, and fabulous tree lined roads (but road itself is a mess). Pool was closed but suggest offering a pass to the Community Centre Pool, or a free coffee from the restaurant, to show serious about the inconvenience (we booked BG for the pool for the children). WiFi (Shaw) was patchy + rarely working, as was cable TV. We stayed 4 days but had to ask for TP and clean towels after a few days - maybe could offer (or knock on door and check) instead of us asking - similar to garbage removal (we were told where the resort bin was, but no offer to dispose for us). No recycling in rooms or resort (from what we could find). Be good if there was an exterior hose somewhere to wash feet after beach so not dragging sand in room. Really small shower standing area in bath. Staff friendly but a little unusual. However, you kind of expect these sort of things from a small country town - it is not a big town polished resort so don't expect the Hilton. Great market (Pacific Point) and drive through coffee a short stroll away. Location is about a 5 minute drive from the actual town centre, but we never got sick of the scenery along the way (via Marine, not Joyce). PR itself is a hidden gem - the town has a great "feel" to it. Price was reasonable for Summer. The bottom line - would we go back - a definite yes. Note, it is a 5 star for PR, but maybe a 2 or 3 star in general comparison. …
This is a quiet 3 story hotel/motel overlooking the marina. There are nice views from the balcony with a couple of chairs - although a small table on the balcony would be nice. The room and bathroom were clean, although there were stains on the carpet and on the upholstery of one of the chairs. Unfortunately, the rooms weren't as soundproof as they should be so there was noise from the room directly above early in the morning. The location is not in town and except for the one onsite restaurant, there are no other restaurants in close proximity.
Great location, spectacular views of marina and water; comfortable beds, clean rooms, best clam chowder ever, good price point. Sandy beach right by the hotel Kudos to staff member Cheryl who seems to wear many hats.
WARNING: NO POOL OR FREE BREAKFAST! We stayed here 2 years ago and really liked it so we came back for 4 nights. I could have booked somewhere closer to town for less money but we wanted the pool! I encouraged my friends to book here too, wow did i feel stupid. I wasnt informed that it was closed unyil check in. I would have brought breakfast from home had I known there wasn't any. The place seemed more run down than just 2 years ago. There were crumbs on the bed when we arrived and I found hairs all over the bathroom. The views were lovely like usual and the staff was friendly. I'm booking somewhere else next time and won't be back until the pool is!
Beautiful view, accommodating staff, extremely comfortable room. It was a really welcomed stay after a long day on the road. We were above the restaurant but the sound didn't come through once balcony door was closed. It was a great place traveling with young kids.
Hotel was dated and old. Booked with free continental breakfast and when I arrived I was told they no longer do the free breakfast. Was also told upon our arrival that the swimming pool was not going to be open. Overall not at all happy with the service and would not stay here again. I would not recommend staying here.
