We arrived here and were instantly taken with this amazing heritage building! Lots of love and thought has gone into all the period fixtures and furniture! We were upgraded to to a king deluxe room and were so pleased with the decor and cleanliness! So May things to look at and reflect on! The room had coffee, tea mini fridge and a very comfortable bed! We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast the next morning which was included with our room! Our server was friendly and capable! We will stay here again if in Powell River!
The owner, Kelly, is very welcoming & explains all the room features in detail. Our friends were in a spacious deluxe king room (#6) & we had a small deluxe queen room (#2) with private garden patio. Breakfast was included - we enjoyed the eggs benny. Definitely an interesting place to stay. The only negative was the amount of noise coming from the room above us between 1:30 and 3:00 am and again around 4:15 am, which ruined the unique experience of staying in a historic inn.
I spent 3 nights at The Old Courthouse Inn. It actually was the courthouse for Town Site before the town was incorporated into Powell River. Built in 1939, the Inn has charm and is well maintained. Everything is personally explained by the owner, Kelly, who is very passionate about his property as well as his purpose. I enjoyed my stay as it was central to my Sunshine Coast journey and I enjoyed the personal touch from the owner. I would stay here again.
The owner was very welcoming and took his time to show me the details of the room. It was tastefully decorated with many antiques and still had modern conveniences. The room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is located in the historic district of Powell River and all of the stores were closed on Sunday. When we booked with Expedia breakfast was included in the price. However the restaurant is closed on Mondays and therefore breakfast was not available. The owner told us that he would adjust the price accordingly but that did not happen. It was too bad that we could not enjoy the breakfast because we were told several times on the ferry that the breakfast was great.
This place is very unique. Don't stay here if you like a bland, minimalist hotel room but do stay if you like a bit of history! We had the Asian themed room which had a bed and a sofa bed in it and a view over port area. All very clean and could smell the polish! Didn't get to sample the breakfast unfortunately as had an early start and they didn't start breakfast earlier than 9am. Decent value for money and definitely an interesting place to stay.
Stayed at the Courthouse for four nights… Pros: interesting historical building with many antiques decorating the halls and rooms. Good breakfast included in the room price with friendly, efficient service. Cons: We were there for four nights. Housekeeping never once made up our room, made our beds, emptied garbage, etc. We’ve never experienced that lack of service in a hotel.
This was our second stay at The Old Courthouse Inn. We had the same room , No 10 The Courtroom.and were equally pleased with the cosiness and ambience. We enjoyed having a separate sitting area with tv and an electric fire. The room and bathroom were very clean and the queen size bed was very comfortable. The one thing that spoiled our experience was the breakfast. It is included with the room rate. My wife and I both opted for the Eggs Benedict. The eggs were done just right but mine came with no Hollandaise sauce and my wife's with just a dribble on top. The muffins were more like pieces of cardboard and the hash browns looked like yesterdays leftovers and were burned and mostly bits of crisp potato. Coffee was good though!
A dozen years ago, on a press trip, a group of us visited the Old Courthouse Inn, had a wonderful meal and a tour of the rooms. I had always wanted to return. I did, two nights ago, to my regret. The heritage inn has suffered greatly. Our room, considered the best in the inn, was not the cleanest and the decor was enough to merit the building's reputation as being haunted. The lurid painting over the bed would give anyone nightmares. Soiled and tired, the poor old place desperately needs saving. In the meanwhile there are a lot better places where you'll be far more comfortable for that kind of money.
We had such a great stay. We were warmly welcomed by Kelly. Our room was cozy and we had a great rest after a long day on the road. Breakfast was super yummy and all the staff were so friendly. We will for sure stay again next time we are in beautiful Powell River.
Quirky vintage hotel in a nice part of the town, right next to the brewery. Cosy comfortable & clean room. Felt like staying at your grandparents house! The staff were very friendly and the even accommodated us with a vegan breakfast option. Would definitely recommend staying here.
