I been coming to Hornby for many years and stayed at many different places on the island until I found Ford’s Cove, the best keep secret. Since then I been coming here with my family for the last 3 years and myself and the kids just love it. We always stay in the 2 bedroom cabins which are ocean view. The cottages are simple but have everything we need. One bedroom has 2 beds and one bedroom has a queen sizes bed. The kitchen has a large freezer/fridge combo, a stove and oven. The living room has a comfy couch that can be turned into a queen size bed as well. The cottages are always clean and they are constantly updating the cottages and the property. I say that because if you are looking at pictures that are updated here on trip advisor they are not up to date and do not reflect the cottages. Many of the pictures here don’t even exist anymore due to all the updates the new administration has done to all the buildings.
One of the things that surprised me this year was how hard I saw the staff keeping up with all the new covid protocols, from the store, to the cottages, the campground and common areas. That made me feel safe. I saw them cleaning the cabin beside me and I noticed the cleaning staff sanitizing even the door handles as they walk away.
A shout out to the employees at Ford’s Cove for been always very nice and welcoming.
Can’t wait to get back here next year

Amazing Pizza available for take out or dine on the docks. Great value. Amazing that they had Gluten Free Crusts and all 5 varieties we ordered were hot, fresh and delish. We will return again during our island time.

This is a lovely spot with a great view and lots to do. The cabin is pretty basic but with a small wood burning stove for colder nights (it was too hot for a fire in August).

It has all the necessary appliances (stove big fridge microwave coffee maker). Lots of dishes and cutlery but short on bowls and tea spoons.

It lost a star because there was nothing in the way of condiments. We had to pay $8 for a salt and pepper at the store. But the store is handy, well stocked with essentials and has fabulous pizza and prepared sandwiches.

Cabins 1, 2, and 3 have very large one bedroom and are right on the the water above an interesting flat rock formations that are fascinating to explore. People were swimming off the rocks. The decks are huge.

The other cabins have two bedrooms but are not overlooking the water. There is a licensed restaurant with a large patio, perfect for watching the sunsets.

There is also a lovely treed area for camping with large sites that are nicely separated with trees and bushes.

The drive down to Ford Cove is beautiful. We would definitely come back again. But we would be better prepared in terms of condiments!

Room Tip: They are open year round but the island is pretty quiet in the winter.

This is a cute and quiet place to camp with beautiful views. Sadly it needs a little TLC.
I have camped here three years in row and nothing in the campground has been repaired.
The bushes are over grown and need to be trimmed. If it is raining the road and some of the campsites are lakes and/or mud pits. They could use some sand and gravel to fix this.
The picnic tables are fragile and wobbly so be careful when you sit down and stand up. The same applies to the two benches by the shore line.
If if wasn’t for the beautiful and quiet setting of this campground I would have given them one star.
With a little work it could be a five star campground.

We just love Hornby Island and we love Ford's Cove. It used to be really rustic and rough around the edges. The water was terrible at one time and the store was very rustic. However, they have spent a lot of money on infastructure. The cabins have been updated. Nice king beds, new furniture, Big Screen TV in the bedroom. The deck is huge. You have to go to Hornby, so close to nature. Rinaldo was very hospitable and was interested in providing you with what ever is needed. The store is recently replaced and a restaurant should be open soon.

Keep up the good work. We have seen big improvements over the 20 years we have stayed there.

I have stayed at Ford's Cove on several occasions and have always enjoyed my stay. It is so much quieter and more peaceful than the over-crowded Tribune Bay Campsite. The grounds are well kept, the washrooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Ford's Cove is the best campground on Hornby Island by far. In fact I have a campsite booked for 12 days from now!

Pros - Nice enough view, great bed and great TV. Nice beach below. Good to have a store.

Cons- shabby cabin. If I knew how shabby it was I'd never have booked it. I swept the entire deck upon arrival and took down the cob webs. The out door furniture was gross. Had to sit on a towel.

Glad to have the opportunity to explore Hornby Island but next time we will try the Sea Breeze.

We just spent four nights camping at Ford's Cove and can't imagine a better location for ocean views, beautiful sunsets, and quiet tenting amongst the large old growth forest. Fire pits and nice sized tenting sites, an area for lawn sports, super clean washrooms/showers, chickens to give our food scraps to, and even some live music on the lawn (Tuesday nights) while watching the sun go down. AND just steps from our campsite - truly the BEST fish and chips we've ever had - huge portions - unbelievably good. People from all over the island seemed to be coming for the fish and chips plus a multitude of other delicious treats (we also tried the grilled salmon with salad which was great!). There is also a fully stocked store (much cheaper than the co-op) which literally had almost anything we needed plus a place to rent kayaks etc. Friendly staff, and Matthew the owner seemed to take the time to go around and chat with everyone to make sure their stay was going well. Another great bonus about this campground is the location next to a trail through the forest/along the ocean side to the pub. Quite a walk (3 km I believe) but well worth it as the food there was excellent and so was the beer. Don't get carried away and drink too much as you wouldn't want to fall off the path on the way back! To top it off this is the most environmentally friendly campground we've ever been to with wind generation and a multitude of other high tech systems to minimize the environmental footprint....... We surveyed the other campgrounds on the island while we were there and this one definitely stood out!

We absolutely loved staying at Ford Cove! We had very friendly service over the phone and the gentleman gave us directions and also recommended we sign up for BCFerries Experience Card which saved us $40 in ferry costs! The campsite is quiet, cozy, with nice green space, a great view of the ocean and of the moon at night. The bathrooms are clean and they are in the process of building a new recycling centre which will be super. Looking forward to returning for an extended stay!

Had a really pleasant stay here at Ford's Cove. A last-minute overnight stay at Ford's Cove after a great dive weekend next door at Hornby Island Dive Center.

I was pleasantly surprised by our off-season cabin rental. We knew it would be rainy, as is typical for this time of year, but the cabin was a GREAT size, had a perfect fireplace, superb TV well-stocked with satellite and DVD rental at the general store. The store was impressive, with excellent prices (and is where the locals come to get groceries, which is a good indication). The food was surprisingly AWESOME (fresh chocolate croissants??). I have to give them 5 stars, for being such a gem especially in such an out-of-the-way place. My expectations were exceeded.

FYI for you canoers, kayakers, scuba or freedivers out there - this is a HOTSPOT for winter sea-lion experiences. Hornby Dive Centre is a cute lodge, right next door, and they do dive charters for big or small groups. From October to April the Stellar and Californian sea lions winter around Hornby Island, following the migration of herring. In February the herring peak, as do the sea lions. It's quite the sight to see! If you're not a diver, you'll hear them from many miles away; if you're a diver, you can visit them (but please don't go too close to or onto their islands - give them space! They'll come to visit you!) You'll see their heads bobbing curiously in the waves. Don't feed them, but they like to play any game they can understand with you.

The immediate area is well stocked with rentals for paddleboards, dive equipment, boats, excursions, fishing, clam digging, etc. It's the best-kept secret of the Gulf Islands... what a great place for a family vacation.
