Food was dreadful. Room had a nice view but leaked like a colander when it rained and was far from clean. Diego did his best but the owner was unhelpful with any problems dismissing the grubby wet bed as "a sign of the Amazon" will never return.

My partner and I stayed at the homestay in Iquitos, also run by Miguel and his wife, Starr, for more than a month. From day one we were greated as family and welcomed in the couples home with open arms, at the same time they always respected our privacy. The room and house was nice, clean, homely and cheap. Both Miguel...

One of favorite memories from a two month trip in South America was time spent on the Mazan River at Abundancia Ecolodge — the food, the sounds, the people — it is truly a special place!! Being so remote (around a 3 hour boat journey from Iquitos), I wasn't expecting the food to be as tasty as it was, but...

Miguel was a hunter in the forest for 20 years and has huge experience of that environment. Additionally he speaks perfect English and can communicate his knowledge, wisdom and enthusiasm to westerners. It is truly a privilege to spend time with him. The lodge is located in a remote and magical position at a bend in the river facing an...

We were in Iquitos, Peru in June of 2014. While there we had a chance to go visit Abundancia Ecolodge on the Mazan river for 4 days. Virgin rainforest (primary jungle). We opted for the standard public transport for the short trip down the Amazon which allowed us to be close up and personal with the local people, a true...

A hand-crafted lodge at a remote bend on a tributary of the Amazon River. Calls of tropical birds, splashing pink river dolphins, the haunting echos of howler monkeys, and mysterious back channels in orchid and vine-covered tropical forests. This is what Abundancia Lodge allows one to experience, and this is Miguel's world. Our 4 day/ 3 night stay at Abundancia...

We arranged our 2 night/3 day booking with Miguel's wife Star, she seemed very friendly on email so we felt comfortable we were in for an enjoyable stay at their lodge. Our journey to the lodge was pure chaos, my partner and I along with another tourist and Miguel took the public boat from Iquitos to Mazan which was fine....

So, I decided that I could use some time away from urban life, and hoped ayahuasca might provide me some kind of benefit. Spring break seemed like a good time to go to Peru, so I started reading about options. I'm not the type to plan trips in advance, but ayahuasca isn't something I wanted to try to find on...

I agree with the other comments regarding Miguel, and his abilities as a jungle guide. However, there are two major risks; one is that there is no communication with the outside world so in an emergency someone would have to travel about an hour down river to enable a mobile phone to be used. I was advised that there would...
