My husband and i stayed in the kauri cottage for two nights after a long flight to nz. This was the perfect place to chill and recharge our batteries. The cottage was beautiful and our hosts extended a typically warm kiwi welcome. We borrowed body boards to visit the beach (few minute walk away) and had a fab time there....

We arrived in Auckland for impromptu trip. Rented a car and just drove towards Piha. Googlwd Black Sand Lodge and Linda, the owner, told us she has a vacancy so we headed that way. The journey is pleasant and very scenic. Arrived about 40 minutes later, and Linda immediately came out to greet us. She is a very nice lady....

I would really recommend anyone to stay with Julia and Bobby at Black Sands. Excellent location and very understanding when our plans unexpectedly changed. Will stay again next time I'm in Piha. Thank you!

We travelled up to piha from down south for a wedding and had not booked accommodation. Julia and Bobby were all too welcoming for us when we found them. Even when we had to cancel our second night staying there, they were so nice and understanding. Could not recommend a better place to stay when travelling to Piha!!

We spent three days at the Black Sands Lodge and loved the serenity and tranquility of the environment. We stayed in the Tui which is a cosy little apartment with its own kitchenette and bathroom as well as an outside sun deck area to soak in the rays or to enjoy the nature which surrounds the cabin. The two hosts...

Beautiful location and hospitality. The host's were wonderful and welcoming. Accommodation was far beyond what we expected. Very easy walking distance to RSA and cafe. We loved that we could hear the waves at night.

We needed two quiet nights to ourselves after a couple of weeks of full on family vacation in NZ, and Bobbie and Julia provided just the spot we needed. The accommodations were beautiful, clean, well-kept. The setting was nestled in some lovely bush, we could hear the ocean, we enjoyed walks along the beach and nearby headlands. Bobbie and Julie...

Our main, or only gripe would be that our accommodation was simply NOT value for money compared to other accommodation we enjoyed during a 5 week tour of the North Island. Plusses first though , the hosts were both very friendly and generally pleasant. The sheets on the bed were of very good quality. Unfortunately there it pretty well ends....

This is a spot of spots! Just a minute walk from the stunning Piha beach, this wonderful lodge makes you feel right at home. The setting is full of lush greenery and close to everything that you might need, if indeed you need anything beyond the beautiful setting to let the stresses of the world melt away. Julia and Bobbie...

“The Tui suite was the real thing.....first in the morning and just before sunset....a couple of Tui birds came by to sing for me...exotic. The rainwater is collected for tap drinking and showers, conserve it but enjoy it. I took a bottle home with me because it was so delicious. The WiFi connection is excellent... The windows are so "squeaky clean" it felt like I was outside,......but keep em closed at night..there was one mosquito...use the screened window and you'll sleep in paradise found”

“You can't go wrong with any of the suites. All three are meticulously maintained and situated less than a minute's walk to the beach. Each suite includes a stocked kitchen as well (plates, silverware, dish detergent, tea, sugar, etc.). Kauri Suite -- Spacious (two stories including a large kitchen/dining/TV area). King-size bed, hardwood floors, outdoor shower, and beautiful view from the deck. Tui -- Similar decorating/design to the Kauri only cozier. Gorgeous deck for dinners, coffee, or taking in the scenery. (King-size bed and hardwood floors) Cabin -- Chummy living space perfect for two or more travellers (two single beds). There is a patio just outside the cabin which is on the edge of the beautiful bush offered by Piha.”
