Having stayed at East Lodge twice before and been very impressed, I have to say we were disappointed this time. The welcome was very good from Christian, the room was fine, but sadly the food lacked finesse. Prawn cocktail - lettuce, with prawns topped with Marie Rose sauce & a wedge of lemon, served with brown bread & butter, no...

With a little trepidation we spent three nights over Christmas last year. We need not have worried everything was of very high standard from initial welcome to the final goodbye. I think the outstanding feature was the staff they were attentive, professional, and always pleasant and produced pre-dinner glasses of sparkling wine not infrequently. The food was of very high...

We have had many enjoyable meals at this restaurant before (more than once, staff have even remembered my birthday date on booking) - this was probably the best we've had. Gluten free, and other special needs, are very well heard and served. The staff are unhurried, friendly but unintrusive. I greatly enjoyed a lamb dish and my partner a perfectly...

Much of the negative material posted with reference to this lovely hotel could quite easily be disregarded as totally out of character, or very infrequent. Being extremely critical and fastidious, with a hint of OCD and also a former Quality Management Practitioner, I am the first to find fault with absolutely anything, especially Quality of Service and Food/Accommodation/Location. This is...

We revisited East Lodge on 15 February having been very pleased with the hotel on a previous visit. We booked for an evening meal and an overnight stay. We were allocated the Devonshire room (numbered 4) and were impressed by the look and feel of the room with an elegant looking 4-poster bed. Sadly the 4-poster bed while looking impressive...

We booked a two night stay at this hotel after reading positive reviews. We phoned prior to booking online to check if they would accommodate an Egg Free vegetarian diet and we were advised that it should be fine and to request this via the online comments box, which we did. We arrived late afternoon for our two night stay...

Having booked ahead and explained that a quiet time for two ladies just to talk over afternoon tea was needed, the staff and hotel completely fullfilled our wish. It was perfect. From the charming welcome to finding just the right room and table we were cosseted. Tea of choice and China cups. Then the sandwiches and many varieties of cake....
