First impression when I entered the property was, this could do with a good clean, the floor in the bar was covered in rubbish and cigarette ends all over the carpet. The room itself was clean and tidy on first sight, it was only when I looked at the toilet I was horrified at what I saw, the toilet was...

Having stayed in previous years thought it was all we required but now they do not serve breakfast at all so have to walk elsewhere. No housekeeping available at weekends so had to ask for tea tray to be refilled. if towels were left on floor for change they would still be there! Bins not emptied and no liners in...

Firstly I will say that the staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. We wanted a one night stop-over and to be fair there was nothing else available at short notice. On pulling into the carpark we were met by a paralytic football supporter who did no more than smash his bottle of beer on the carpark and proceed to...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for the night and we just wanted to somewhere as a base, which this was fine for as it was cheap and easy to get to. However, I would still expect better standards, the shower was very dirty and mouldy and no handle but just a string instead! There was no shampoo or anything...

After enjoying a stay at this hotel 18 months ago, I decided to book 2 double rooms as we were visiting Chester with friends. A few days before arrival I rang the hotel to confirm our booking as previously a different hotel had 'lost' our reservation and we were stranded miles from home so I just like to be prepared...

Thank you very much for your comments. We are pleased that you are satisfied with the rooms, the beds and the facilities in general, and we will pass on your comments to the staff. Thank you also for identifying some short falls that you encountered on your stay. Please be assured that it was not the intention of any of...

Double single rooms are small but clean & tidy, friendly enough place. Beds very comfy. Walking distance to the town. Quiet considering it's a pub-rooms pretty much soundproof. There is parking which is free (makes it handy if you have a car).

Comfortable beds speedy check in friendly staff good price. Does the job perfectly. Rooms are clean bar is cheap, can be a bit noisy up until midnight but you are sleeping above a pub so it is to be expected. Don't lie on bed if you are intending to go out as you will fall asleep

I came to the G&D regularly as a student a few years ago and loved it. I went back to check out my old local and I was a bit disappointed. I suppose it's alright for students but there are much nicer places to eat in Chester. The lady behind the bar was very unfriendly and I felt like a...

Thank-you for your comments concerning your 'trip down memory lane'. As you correctly described we are a student style pub & its great that you can recall visiting in your student days. I apologise for the tables and I can assure you, it would not have been the intention of the bartender to make you feel less than welcome. I...

I am a student in Chester and tend to visit this pub a lot as it is nice and near to campus , lots of deals to make alcohol cheap and you can even put requests for music ! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere tends to be upbeat and fun (especially on Thursday for karaoke) If you're a...
