This is really friendly place, with nice food and a very comfortable ambience. I arrived at 9.00 on a Sunday evening, and there was a log fire going. I had a whisky or two, read my book, and went up to bed. As far from a chain hotel as it is possible to be. Sometimes you want slick and modern,...

Visited Chester for a short birthday break and chose Ye Olde King's Head for its atmosphere and location. The room was comfortable if a touch small but had everything we needed for the two nights we stayed. The shower could have been a bit stronger but otherwise the bathroom was well-appointed. The four-poster bed was extremely comfortable and we both...

Stayed here for 1 night. This place is a cracking genuinely cosy pub. Staff are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in room 6, which donned a super comfy 4 poster bed. Bathroom was clear brand new and spotless. The building is old so it does creek a bit, but it all adds to its charm....

I came here for a light lunch with my parents. We were just walking down the street looking for somewhere to gp so we chose Ye Olde Kings Head. From the outside it looks very authentic in style, something which is carried on inside. Personally I'd rather the bench seating in the food side was more in keeping with the...

Made to feel very welcome by Staff, Manager and Owner all very friendly, and couldn't do enough to help.We were directed to the Car park at the rear and our bags were carried up to our room on the first floor. Lovely Olde Worlde Hotel central to a Great Town.

Went for the a pint (or two) of the Breakfast Stout, it was superb and certainly went well with the steak burger (with added bacon and cheese) the chips were well cooked even the garnish was tasty. Arrived in this centrally ancient inn and was immediately struck by its quaint feel. The landlord treated us as if we were long lost family all weekend. The staff were mega friendly and nothing was to much. An genuinely old inn with all the quirks and wrinkles. if you want plush don't bother, if you want a good time, better...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kings Head is a traditional Inn built in 1622 on the west side of Lower Bridge Street. The Inn is a few minutes walk down hill from the Cross. The name refers to when King Charles stayed at the nearby Gamul House during the English Civil War. Since buying the business in March 2012 the current owners have spent thousands of pounds trying to bring the Ye Olde Kings Head back to it's former glory. In November 2012, the property had an extensive refurbishment throughout the bar and restaurant areas, every ensuite bathroom was also replaced and redecorated to a high standard. There are currently three completed refurbished rooms, by mid December 2013 they expect every bedroom to be finished. ... more   less
