Went for a Sunday lunch and I've never seen such generous portions and such great value Dog friendly great location very quiet once the D&C police helecopter went away :) Slow down when you drive up or you will miss the tight turn into the large car park

The atmosphere in this pub is great, what a pub should be. However the food we had was very poor. The Pate was slopped onto the plate in huge amounts with 3 rounds of toast and hard butter and didn't really taste of much. For the main course I actually went for a vegi option which was a spinach and...

We have been here a few times for a drink but this weekend was the first stopover as it was a special occasion. Always a warm and freindly place and it even extentended to our mutts. Great atmosphere, lovely open fire and comfy settees. We had the 4 poster room and it was lovely although some renovation needed in the...

I stayed here recently for a meeting locally. I have stayed at other "higher" class venues or branded operations, but they aren't very good. This was a good honest room, at a good honest price. The staff and locals made me feel very welcome ( they had been to the races that day ) - it was a great night,...

Stayed here one night as I was attending a meeting near by. The room was very clean, spacious and good value. It also had a four poster bed. Don't the odd frayed carpet put you off. It's a good basic B&B. It's above a pub so you have to accept that there will be a degree of lively chatter coming...

Immediately made to feel welcome as soon as we entered the bar. Several real ales available, and the landlord was happy to give large tasting samples to help you decide. Extensive menu and the food was very well done. The main bar is filled with a variety of furniture, including settees (one of which was occupied by the pub dog)....

Mr C and I stayed at the Poachers Inn, Ide for one evening meal, one night and breakfast. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our ensuite room with 4 poster. Nice, if a little jaded round the edges. Certainly warm on a January night. We had a bar snack before going out to a party and returned, ready to let...

My wife and I visited The Poachers on 5/11/2011, service was terrible. Ordered a pint and a coffee. Waited for 10 mins for the coffee to arrive "Black" and the girl asked if I wanted anything in it, to which I replied "Milk would be ideal".Then the food arrived....no knives and forks, so I had to go to the bar...

I first staying at The Poachers some years ago on business trips, and still do so whenever I am able but have stopped there on short West Country breaks too. My idea of excellence is a warm, hospitable welcome, a variety of guest ales and traditional food served with some imaginative twists served on hot plates, locally sorced quality meat,...

Great comfy country pub, must be doggie lovers though as we are - pub has resident dog and many that visit but we loved them. Food was excellent and considering 21 of us were eating nobody had a bad word to say about the food. We had the four poster bedroom which was comfy and homely, could do with more...

“Rooms are accessed by a narrow, winding staircase, so would not be suitable for people with mobility issues. Be aware that the owner has a dog, so if you are allergic or simply don't like dogs it's probably not the place for you.”

“Would not choose the one above the bar again but then, you are staying in a pub!”
DevonJacy, 22 Jan 2012 | Read review
“There are only three rooms, all traditionally furnished in cottage style. One has a four poster bed. If you want rooms devoid of character and environmentally deprived stop at a travelling salespersons' hotel on the motorway!”
