The Babbacombe Hotel earns rave reviews for its lively and welcoming atmosphere, complete with entertainment and freshly updated rooms that are spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated. Travelers frequently commend the hotel for its cleanliness and the professional, friendly service provided by the staff. While the hotel's location is popular for its scenic views and convenience for visiting nearby towns, guests have called out the reasonable pricing, although some caution that bar drinks might be a bit steep. Came for a 3 night stay to just get away and see the sea! We booked a sea view room with balcony which gave us an amazing view. Room was adequately sized with very comfortable bed. Usual tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Bathroom was spotless and so nice to have a hotel shower which was big and powerful with ample hot water.
Breakfast was good- self service cereal, fruit, toast and chef served hot items, all seemed freshly cooked - asked for veg sausages one morning and they were good too.
Staff all wore masks and tables were cleared and cleaning promptly after guests left.
Every member of staff we spoke to was friendly and house keeping did a great job in our room every day which we weren’t expecting (thought for a 3 night stay they may not come in).
We prepaid for parking (need to do this directly with the hotel). Had an allocated spot directly below our room so we could see the car.

Location was great, lots of nice places to eat, short walk downhill (very steep) to beaches (pebble), close to SW coastal park and a couple of miles into Torquay.
Beware that every public toilet we saw charges 30p! Some cash and some card, keep some change with you!

Only slight let down was our room was directly above the ‘showbar’ which had live entertainment until 1030pm every night. We were warned at check in about this and I guess we could’ve asked for a different room but they sounded pretty booked up. On night 3 we were back from dinner early and wanted just to relax in our room and watch TV but the base banging through our floor prevented this. Too late really to ask to move and being a Friday night didn’t hold out any hope of a room being available.

Would we go back - absolutely, but ask for a room at the other end of the hotel!

Stayed for a week on dbb basis and found it to be excellent value for money. Each evening there is a choice of 3 starters, 5 mains and 4 desserts followed by tea or coffee. When you go to dinner ask for the bar person if you want to order a drink or take drink in with you from the bar. In the morning full English breakfast, fruit juice and tea/coffee are served to you, and you can pick up cereals, fruit bowls (all wrapped in cling film), yoghurts and croissants. Parking is limited (about 9 places) but I always managed to get in. There was no noise from the road. Our room was large with balcony and wonderful seaview over the downs, bay and cruise ships. The shower room was small with soap provided and there was always hot water. All the staff were very friendly. There was entertainment most evenings. There is a Costa Coffee so you can have a snack there for lunch. If you don’t have a sea view room the view can still be enjoyed from the two lounges and dining room.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. It's a fantastic location, with beautiful views over Babbacombe bay.
The rooms was a bit on the small size, but was very clean and the bed was really comfy. The ensuite was lovely with a really good walk in shower.
They are responding to Covid-19 regulations. There are plenty of hand sanitizer around, all the staff are wearing visors and there are perspex screens in place, where required. They also sell face masks and small bottles of sanitizer at reception.

We had one evening meal here which was 3 courses for £12.50.

The most outstanding thing about the hotel, is the staff. Clearly it's a very difficult time for the hospitality industry, but everyone was clearly working very hard under difficult circumstances, while remaining friendly and attentive.

Positives and negatives on this one:

Positives:
Staff were very friendly and helpful from the reception, breakfast servers to the house keepers.
Room was clean and modern as was the bathroom, the bed was large and comfortable and included a decent TV, tea and coffee making and hairdryer. Plenty of clothe storage.
The balcony was on the small size but ok for two people to enjoy the view.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choice hot and cold and the waiting staff were very efficient at bringing tea or coffee and clearing the tables.

Negatives:
We felt that the table layout in the dining room was a little too close together under the current covid guidance some were certainly less than 1 metre apart. Also a lot of the guests were not wearing masks when queuing for the buffet or moving around the dining area.
Balcony was over the hotel entrance and outdoor seating so when sitting on the balcony you had the smell of smoke rising up for the smokers below.
Hotel caters for coach tours everyday and provides musical entertainment in the evening and the load music drums through the hotel until 10.30pm, so no chance of an early night!
Car parking is a ridiculous £10 a day have no idea why as it’s just a parking area no more.

Overall a nice clean hotel but way way over priced for a double room.

We booked this hotel mainly for the position and fairly good reviews. We paid extra for a sea view and superficially the room looked fine but on closer inspection it needed a lot of cosmetic work. As did the rest of the hotel. It needs a complete refurbishment from top to bottom. Breakfast was very basic. You had to queue up to choose your food and not everyone was practicing social distancing. Did not eat here at night as was put off by the poor quality breakfast. My OH bumped into the owner of the hotel one day outside in the car park who asked him how was our stay. When my OH told him about all the things wrong with our room and showed him photos he appeared quite shocked and said he would look into it. But we did not hear anything. We paid a lot of money and although we loved the position of the hotel we would not stay here again and would not recommend it.

We stayed here for 3 nights on a GBTours trip. We were very lucky and had a room with a sea view. The room was excellent with plenty of storage for all your belongings. There were even some empty drawers and that doesn't very often happen. The buffet breakfast was amazing. The food was constantly being topped up and even with four coach parties in the food never ran out. There was plenty of choice on the dinner menu and the food was good although it wasn't fine dining. The service was excellent and all staff had a smile on their face. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are in the area.

I booked my room via Booking.com and paid in advance. When I arrived I was asked to produce some photo ID (i.e. a driver's licence, bus pass or passport). In addition to this I was instructed to produce the same card that I had used to make the booking. If not, I would NOT be allowed to stay, even though I had paid in advance. When I asked the reason for this unusual request, "Read our terms and conditions!" was the curt reply. As a disabled person I looked for a disabled parking bay. There is none. Only four parking bays are available to guests at this hotel, and they have to be pre-booked at a cost of £10.00 per night. All the on-road parking is at least 100 yards away and completely occupied. There is a small lift in this hotel, but it is for the sole use of staff. I had to climb a steep, narrow staircase to my single room which was at the rear of the hotel, overlooking a street and private houses. This hotel caters mostly for coach parties of decrepit old-aged pensioners. The breakfast room was crammed to the gunnels with well over a hundred people packed closely together. I was the only person wearing a face mask. Several people were coughing. I will not stay here again. Ever!

Response from Brett Powis, Owner at The Babbacombe Hotel
Responded Apr 3, 2022
I don’t normally respond to reviews, but when we get one as unpleasant as this, I feel it needs a response. If you feel it is reasonable to call our guests decrepit old aged pensioners then I truly hope you never return to our Hotel as you are not welcome. We live in an unfortunate world where some guests fraudulently use a credit card to book their stay which is why we request either photo ID or the actual credit card used to pay for the stay to ensure the booking is valid, that is not an unreasonable request to protect both us and all our guests. There are 8 parking spaces for guests but we are limited and these do have to be pre-booked, we have 9 accessible rooms for disabled guests all with wet rooms, and as you say so rudely, a lot of other older guests also enjoy staying with us, so we would never have enough for demand as we have 82 rooms. There are actually two lifts, one for luggage and one for guests and staff, what hotel would have a lift but say guests aren’t allowed to use it, totally ridiculous. We do have six bedrooms on the third floor, all doubles or twins so if you were in a Single room, you would have been on the 1st or 2nd floor and the lift would have taken you directly to your floor. Even if you did use the Stairs, they are not steep or narrow, they are a central staircase. As for mask wearing, all restrictions have been removed by the Government, even if we did feel they were necessary, better informed people than me have said we need to get back to normal life so that is what we have to do. In the first three months of 2022, 99.5% of our guests would happily recommend and return, you are in a tiny percentage that wouldn’t which is just as well, as your rudeness and the pack of lies you have put in your review means you would not be welcomed back.

Just been here for a Turkey Tinsel 4 day break with our local coach company. From the minute we arrived we were looked after exceptionally well. The hotel manager came onto the coach to greet us and take us into the hotel for coffee/tea and mince pie whilst our luggage was unloaded and taken to our rooms. The hotel was festively decorated with gorgeous xmas trees and beautiful seasonal garlands. The Babbacombe is set on the clifftop overlooking the sea with well manicured gardens along its front. Everywhere is beautifully decorated and furnished and is absolutely spotless. We were looked after by an amazing team of people, it was a pleasure to meet them all. They worked tirelessly to ensure that everyones needs were met. All the areas of the hotel were warm, inviting and comfortable. Our bedroom was very comfortable, again spotlessly clean with everything we needed. The dining room was the excellent standard as all other rooms. Service was top class and food was very enjoyable. A buffet breakfast with lots of freshly cooked hot food. A good choice of dishes at the evening which was served at our table, again very tasty, delicious food. Evening entertainment was very enjoyable with top class entertainers who certainly made us happy. All in all a fabulous hotel with very special people working in it. Good luck to The Babbacoome and every member of its staff

Booked only a few weeks before going. Hotel has a lovely view over the bay and therefore when you have breakfast or dinner you have a great backdrop. Glad to say food is not fine dining!!! It is good well cooked traditional British and substantial. Breakfast has a good choice of cereals and traditional English cooked. Dinner is a set three course menu with different options for each course with some thing on each would appeal to most people. Meals are are on a buffet basis so you can have as much as you can get on your plate (which are not that small). We were not left hungry for our entire stay. Staff are friendly and very helpful and were always busy. Our room was not huge but big enough and comfortable. We slept well and I must say that this is one of the few hotels we've stayed in where we have hardly heard any noise and therefore had a good nights sleep. The ensuite bathroom was good with a very large shower cubicle. The bathroom itself did need a few cosmetic touches but it was clean and everything worked so not a problem. I would thougherly recommend the Hotel especially if you are looking for a traditonal Britsih Seaside holidayat views where you are well looked after.

We stayed here in September for 2 nights, booked the day before we visited and the receptionist was very helpful when we telephoned the hotel. Booked a room with a sea view and a balcony. Our room was located over the entertainment area which the receptionist told us about, we were happy with this, yes you could hear the music and it was great, you're on holiday, the entertainment finished at 10.30pm. Lift in the hotel. Our room was quite small but perfectly adequate, super comfy bed, plenty of storage, hairdryer, television, tea and coffee making facilities, large bathroom, everything was immaculately clean, as it should be . Our balcony / terrace was huge, table and chairs provided, wonderful view of the sea, we had lovely weather too so made use of the balcony. The staff were very efficient and friendly, especially Eve in the restaurant who took the time to suggest places to visit, thank you. Cooked breakfast was good, also choice of fruit and yoghurts. Bar service was good and the drinks were very reasonably priced, it was good to have some entertainment as so many hotels do not have any at the moment. Everyone made us feel really welcome. We would recommend this hotel and would stay again if in Babbacombe.
