I recently stayed at this hotel with my wife and 11 yr old daughter and we were gutted when it was time to come home. We stayed in room 101 on the ground floor near the lift and reception area. The room was spotless and the bathroom was huge and our daughter had her own tv,sofa and proper bed which she loved. Due to covid reasons the housekeepers dont come into the room daily but you can request bins emptied and fresh towels etc. We stayed for 7 nights and our bedding was changed half way through our stay.

My wife enjoyed the treatment in the spa which opened whilst we were staying there and myself and my daughter enjoyed the sole use of the swimming pool and even got extra time as no one else had booked in after us.

We ate breakfast every morning and the staff were all wearing face visors and attended to our every request daily with a smile. The food is of a very high standard and we ate in the hotel on a number of nights as well as we had only booked bed and breakfast. The chocolate icecream desserts were especially enjoyed by our daughter and myself and my wife never ate a bad meal the whole time we were there.

We had an issue as due to the location of the room we heard more noise than we were expecting on 2 of the nights and addressed this with reception in the morning. Kim the manager of the hotel very graciously sorted this out for us and couldnt have been more helpful. We received a complimentary Sunday dinner for all of us which was delicious. This reinstated our faith in the hotel as they will do their best to resolve any issues which may arise.

We will definitely return next year and will look to book for 10 days next time in a different room and my daughter cant wait to be back in the pool again.

Thanks soo much especially to Kim, Zara, Taylin,Evelina,Tatiana, Zoe from spa and the food and drinks manager(sorry didnt get his name) and so many more that smiled and said hello/morning. They are all amazing and work incredibly hard and do their upmost best to make sure you have an amazing experience.

Definitely recommend this luxury hotel as we looked at other hotels and glad we stayed at this one.

from the initial phone calls with Kim , General Manager and a knowldgable and helpful Courtnay to the hilarious greeting at reception by Renate and Holly, our initial fears of escaping 'home' for four nights to an Hotel were dissolved. Evey care was taken to ensure that all guests were protected. No staff entered our room unless requested, all our needs for the room, tea coffee fresh milk clean towels etc.were available via a door handle form. Fresh chilled water, a safe and fridge are all provided, our room faced the Bowling Green opposite with The Park and trees beyond and a squint to the left a sea view. (it litterally took about 2 minutes to walk to the seafront)
Dining was excellent! Breakfast was waiter served with ample opportunity to select exactly what you wanted, even an extra ration of bacon etc.
Dinner was a 6 course meal with excellent quality ingredients, perfecly cooked and of a standard rarely experienced at this price range.
All staff throughout the hotel were cheerful and obliging, you could not ask for anything better. We found Florin the Restaurant Manager both helpful and efficient.
Cons: very difficult to find fault, our only concern was that the hotel was fully booked over our weekend which meant that the dining tables were just a bit too close to eachother. AC would be essential in the heat of summer, however, the fan provided helped to circulate the air.
A BIG thank you to everyone for making our short break a happy memorable one - we will return eventually.

We stayed at the Belgrave Sands Hotel for a long weekend and had booked the only sea view room left, which was described as a deluxe (due to the sea view). It was actually a classic room with a sea view. The view was wonderful but the room was very small for us although the bathroom was huge. The room was very clean and had a fridge with a bottle of fresh milk and a bottle of water, although only one packet of 2 biscuits was provided for 2 people. The room was very hot at night even with all the heating turned off all day and the windows open (and it was a rainy weekend!). We ended up keeping the bathroom door open at night to get some air in the room. There was a fan in the room but we didn't use it due to the noise. Sadly we were unable to move rooms as the hotel was fully booked but the receptionist did say she would offer us another room if one became free.

The staff at this hotel are lovely, very cheerful and they really do go out of their way for you. On the first morning (which was the first weekend after the lockdown restrictions had relaxed) there were some issues with the breakfast service - it arrived in bits and pieces and we had to ask for cutlery, toast, coffee, salt/pepper etc but on the second and third days they had sorted themselves out and the service was excellent. I think they had new staff and were getting back into the swing of things again after being closed for so long.

The best part of our stay was being able to book the pool and having it all to ourselves for 40 mins. That was really lovely. We felt very safe at this hotel, their Covid measures were very good and areas were constantly cleaned. Hand sanitizers are available everywhere.

The location is excellent - a couple of mins walk to the beach, 5 mins walk to the harbour. Shops and restaurants were close by too. Torquay is a nice place to walk around especially along the coast.

We would definitely recommend this hotel but not a classic room unless it was for a single occupant, as it was too small for more than one person.

Good afternoon SeekingSun22, Thank you for the review regarding your stay I am happy that you would definitely recommend despite your feedback regarding the sleep quality. I am sorry that you felt that the rooms to be hot, as you mentioned there has been no heating on and unfortunately due to the weather being quite humid it has left some to have a less comfortable night sleep, myself included in my nearby residence. I am glad to read that your breakfast experience was excellent for the majority of your stay, I am sorry that on the first day you had to ask for cutlery, toast and condiments, this is not our usual standard and recruiting and training new staff did have an impact but nevertheless we do not wish any of guests to have this experience. It is lovely to read that you enjoyed the leisure facilities and the private use, during these unusual times this has been a necessary solution. We have plenty of feedback regarding our rooms and the majority of our guests find our Classic Rooms comfortable and ample in size, I am sorry that you did not feel the same way however if you do choose to stay with us again I recommend staying in a Signature room as these rooms do afford plenty of space, I would also like to add that Bijou rooms we generally recommend for single guests that want a double bed and Classic rooms are more than suitable for 2. We often get great reviews regarding our location so I am delighted that you agree and I hope that on your next visit to Torquay you consider The Belgrave Sands Hotel & Spa. Kind Regards Luke & The Belgrave Sands Team

Top prices for a poor hotel
Some very rood staff on reception
No hospitality skills whatsoever
If you ever asked for as much as extra
Tea bags or milk you got quizzed why
You wanted it disgusting for the amount
Paid per night
We had breakfast 4 days out of 6
Never once got our order right
Had kippers one morning almost burnt
To a crisp.
Most staff are Eastern European hence
Not getting orders correct with the
Language barrier .
We heard many people complaining
One lady in particular how rood she had
Been spoken too
There is NO air conditioning in the rooms
They are like ovens almost impossible to sleep although you did get a fan
We paid £40 short of a thousand for 6 nights.
Stay clear of this place you can find
Quality bed and breakfasts in Torquay at half the price
Location is good and you do get parking
But that’s about it I am afraid.
Needs some proper management
Badly

Dear Mr Cook, I am very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay with us. All rooms receive 4 x sachets of tea bags, coffee, decaffeinated coffee, brown sugar, white sugar, 1 sachet of hot chocolate and a packet of biscuits along with a selection of six different premium flavoured teas in silk bags to try and a bottle of fresh milk in the fridge as well as a bottle of cold water and a little chocolate tart each as a welcome treat for your arrival to the hotel. Due to Covid-19 safety measures, no members of staff are entering guest bedrooms unless specifically requested (of course if a guest requests a daily service as normal, we are happy to oblige, but otherwise, we leave a sheet in the room for guests to tick which items they would like replenishing and to leave it hung on the door; we then replace the sheet with a bag of everything they have requested, including clean towels, tea and coffee, toiletries, etc. Our reception team also has a stock of all of the above items and are happy to give them out if requested when our housekeeping team has gone home for the day. I am very sorry if a member of our reception team came across to be rude when you asked. I would like to mention that our team are from all over the world and we are very proud to work with such a diverse group of people, all of whom speak excellent English and quite frankly, thank goodness that Eastern Europeans along with other nationalities are in England otherwise the holiday industry in the UK would be doomed! If someone made a mistake on your breakfast order, I am very sorry and we will try much harder in the future. Unfortunately, we do not provide air conditioning in the bedrooms; we did want to when the hotel was refurbished 4 years ago, but sadly the electric board said there wasn't enough supply in the area to run the units in every bedroom. Instead we had to put a far more expensive central heating system in place. We do provide a fan in every room and to be fair, my house was really hot too during the time you were staying as Torbay was very stuffy. We are always happy to provide a top sheet so you don't have to use the duvet. The windows also open fully and in the large deluxe room that you were in, there were 2 windows in the bedroom plus one in the bathroom. Overall, I am very sorry that you were not happy with your stay, I was on holiday the week you were here, but i do wish you would have given me a chance to rectify your experience by contacting me directly rather than posting a very damaging review for the world to see as i would have done my upmost to try to help. Yours sincerely, Kim Furness General Manager

The rooms are very well equipped with all you could need but be careful what room you book. For single travellers, steer clear of classic singles. I had room 132 which was small, dark and very warm. I was given 2 fans which helped but they did circulate warm air.I got one decent nights sleep in the 5 I stayed there. I appreciate that I was in one of the cheaper classic rooms but, as the hotel claims it is luxury, I was told by the manager that there was no other accommodation available during my stay so I could not be moved. It was strange that they were still taking bookings on Booking.com and had a sign welcoming walk ins!
Besides the type of room, the location of rooms needs to be checked if you are less mobile. Rooms 121 to 150 are only accessed via numerous flights of stairs. There is a large main staircase and then several smaller sets of stairs. There is a lift to all other rooms in the other part of the hotel.
The facilities, overall, are very good and very clean and I would agree with the praise given by previous reviews.
Staff are professional but warm and friendly.
The evening dining experience is excellent - food is wonderful. Breakfast is not so good. Excellent, wide choice but cooked food is a bit bland & overcooked - definitely not up to the standards of the dinner experience.Service was also poor during breakfast, perhaps more staff at that time would help. For example, on my last morning, I waited nearly an hour before I got my coffee. I did tell the staff that I had to get a train at 10.20 but it didn't help - they simply didn't have enough staff to cope. I had to leave most of my breakfast because I was going to miss my train home. A couple on another table walked out very angry.
Finishing on a positive note, the location is excellent. A few minutes from the seafront, bus stops and train station, ample guest parking and 15 minute flat walk into Torquay.
With one of the rooms other reviewers have raved about, the hotel is a good choice. The special offers they do for longer stays are good value for money.

Dear June S, Thank you for your review, I am very pleased to hear that you found the hotel location to be ideal, the six course evening meal to be delicious. 132 is our only classic single room in the hotel, but to be honest, it is the nicest single room i have ever seen as at most hotels, they are like horrible little boxes. Ours is complete with all of the amenities of every room in our hotel; high quality furniture and soft furnishings, a fridge, iron and ironing board, safe, table and chair, tea and coffee making facilities, fluffy robe and slippers, a fan, large walk-in shower, etc, of course it is the smallest room in the hotel, which is why there isn't a double bed in it, but i do wish i could post a picture of the room for readers to see as I personally think it is a lovely single room. During your stay, i don't know what you have seen on booking.com, but we were genuinely fully booked, except 3 rooms that were available for one night on the Thursday night of your stay, but that would be no use as you were staying for 5 nights from the Wednesday. You told me that the room was too warm, i immediately brought you an second fan and a sheet in case the duvet was too hot for you in the night. You asked me if there would be any penalty if you left early and i told you if you are not happy and want to leave early, i will only charge you for the nights you have stayed. You said you were going to find a better hotel to move to, which i also assume you didn't as you did end up staying the full 5 nights booked. I also asked every time i saw you how you were and you said fine. Also, the sign welcoming walk-ins was meant for food and drink as the hotel has been fully booked since the 3rd week in July. I am glad you found our team to be professional yet friendly and your six course evening meals to be excellent. The morning that you are describing, i did apologise sincerely for your wait. Unfortunately, on this morning, 70 out of the 90 guests staying at the hotel decided to come for breakfast at 9am, and with the best will in the world, it was impossible for us to provide all 70 guests with the service we always hope to. From the day after this, we implemented a booking system for breakfast so that this could never happened again. Once again, I am very sorry that you didn't get to enjoy your breakfast on your final morning and that it was very rushed. Yours sincerely, Kim Furness General Manager

Well first impressions from the website and the appearance of the hotel looked fabulous .

The front of the hotel and reception is spotlessly clean.

First impressions of the bedroom from walking in the door took my breath away at seeing the modern decorations and one large comfortable bed.

Now the Toilet is a different story there was blood all around the outside of the pan within minutes I was down at reception to complain how a room could be left in that state of all things especially with covid around but BLOOD.

The guy on reception was very good at first he came up and looked at it but it was like he didn’t believe me but yes it was Blood that had not been cleaned away how can this happen.

He said I will clean it up but I never saw any disinfectant taken into the room he just went straight back in and told me I could go and get a free complementary Coffee WOW.

There was no apology and never even came to me while I was sat waiting to tell me it was ready.

There is no Customer support at this hotel even though they are friendly on the reception desk.

At about 11.30 pm a note came under the door and said please fill in the customer feed back form guess what there wasn’t one in my room so the next morning I went down to reception and told them but they had none so they printed me one of the printer.

With the Blood on the Toilet I decided to inspect the bed and bedding and that had stains but can’t say of what has this was minion but have included photographs.

May I suggest you check your bed and bedding for stains on arrival in the room .

It’s not a cheap hotel per night and I did expect better or moved to a clean Room.

Anyway on checking out again I complained and gave them the feed back form.

It’s a real putty no one would talk to me about it because it is a lovely hotel apart from the cleanliness of my toilet With BLOOD On.

The positives are nice breakfast and Great location .

Also when I complained apparently the cleaners had left and where was the Duty Manager when you want to speak to him or Her don’t staff inform the senior team of complaints.

It could be a top hotel if the management get on top of checking rooms before Guests Arrive has in this case did not happen.

I hope they reply and explain what went wrong on this occasion

Dear Johnybadluck, I am so sorry about this entire situation. If I am honest, I still haven't got to the bottom of it. For every room that is departed, the maintenance man goes in first to fog the room with an electrostatic anti-viral mist to kill any germs that are left on surfaces and commonly touched places such as light switches, taps, TV remote control (new procedure after Covid-19), then the room attendant cleans the room and finally the head housekeeper checks the room. I have no idea how this was missed, despite investigating, and I can only profusely apologise and assure you that nothing like this has ever happened before and will not happen again. You should have absolutely been offered a different room and I am very sorry you weren't. If there is anything I can help you with further, please feel free to contact me directly at the hotel. Yours sincerely, Kim Furness General Manager

Location is great, 2 minute walk to seafront. Staff are very helpful. Be aware that there is only one lift and some rooms are up and down stairs to get to,if you have mobility issues ask for a room on the flat. Large carpark. Food is the best we have had, 6 course dinner was superb. Rooms clean and well presented. Breakfast you help yourself to cereals, toast, juice etc. Hot food is cooked to order and again can not fault it. Probably not a great hotel if you have children. Hotel is used by coaching companies.
Overall highly recommend.

Good afternoon Lynn F, Thank you very much for you wonderful review. I am delighted that you found our team to be very helpful, the carparking to be ample and your meals superb as well as the rooms clean and well presented. We do have some rooms that are not lift accessible but all we need is for you to let us know if you need lift access when you book and we can make sure you have a suitable room allocated to you. Children are welcome and over the summer holidays, we do have a few, but as we don't have designated family rooms, and instead we add extra beds and bunk beds in larger bedrooms for children, it is dependant on availability. We have coach companies using the hotel for most of the year and all guests are treated exactly the same whether they are on a coach or booking independently so there is no way of knowing who is who apart from which vehicle they travel in. I am so pleased that you highly recommend us and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kindest regards, Kim & The Belgrave Sands Team

Stayed for a 3 night weekend from 13 December to 15 December with a party of 20. The hotel exceeded expectations, the staff were very helpful and made us feel welcome from the start. My room was over looking Belgrave Road but it was very clean and cozy. I loved that you had fresh milk in the fridge, no sachets of long life milk to try to open and it was great that there was also fresh fruit in the room together with a good selection of teas. The evening meal was outstanding, helped by Florin's brilliant service. The whole weekend was excellant. Am recommending the hotel to family and friends

Have just spent a night at the Belgrave Sands as they are open after the lockdown. They have all the new measures in place to make you feel safe and secure - staff wearing full on face masks at all time, all waiting staff using visors, sanitiser in all places and special room cleaning with fogger between bookings.
I have stayed here before a few years ago and it looks like the hotel is still new and just opened...the rooms are immaculate along with all the beds and bedding - bathrooms are spotless and huge! Food and service could not be faulted, we stayed as a party of four and everyone was impressed with the place. If your looking for a top quality hotel in and around Torbay you can not go wrong, location is great, easy free parking and great management and staff to look after you. Dont waste your money and time going elsewhere..you will not be disappointed.

We stayed here in 2019 and enjoyed it so much we decided to come back this year.
The hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean and felt very safe.
We stayed for 6 nights on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis as we didn't want to have to go into too many different restaurants on an evening - it was definitely the right choice a) because the food is excellent & b) because so many of the restaurants in the area are short staffed at the minute that it's difficult to find somewhere that's not constantly fully booked.
The cleaning staff at the hotel do an amazing job, our room was serviced every morning whilst we were having breakfast and on the 3rd day the bed linen was also changed.
You really felt as though you could relax when sat in the lounge or the restaurant as most guests were respectful & wore masks whilst walking around.
It was refreshing & comforting to see that you had to sanitize your hands and wear a facemask to visit the breakfast buffet in a morning.
A beautiful sun terrace to enjoy the fantastic Torquay sunshine and a spot of lunch/cocktails. We didn't use the pool this time as the weather was so kind to us that we were able to go to the beach most days.
Thank you to all the team that made our stay so enjoyable - the restaurant and reception team who were very efficient and the fantastic cleaning team that made us feel so safe. Can't wait to come back again.

Good afternoon Julie M, I am really pleased that after your first visit you chose to come and stay with us again and I am equally happy that you enjoyed the hotel just as much this time around. It is great to read that you were happy with your decision to stay on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast, we offer this option for the convenience, we are also proud that we have 2 Rosettes and it is also better value to pre book with Dinner. The cleaners work incredibly hard so thank you for recognising the amazing job they do. I am glad you felt relaxed, we are still trying to keep our guests safe so recommending the use of masks and sanitisers will remain in the future, however we do not enforce this as we appreciate personal preference. The feedback is really appreciated and I am really excited to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards Luke & all the team at Belgrave Sands Hotel & Spa

From what I saw when we stayed, it was just the one dinning room. They would probably sit you at a table for 2 if you asked.

Yes they do , as they supply a large bottle of water and a bottle of milk which you can have refilled whenever you need more. Really lovely hotel, one of the best we've stayed in, and the staff are brilliant.
