The Osborne Hotel boasts a prime location near the beach, with guests lauding the picturesque views. However, some visitors have expressed disappointment with slow service, particularly at the bar and terrace. While the hotel's amenities, including heated pools and a scenic terrace, are often praised, the high costs and unexpected fines have left many questioning the value. Rooms are recognized for their spaciousness and cleanliness, yet critiques of the outdated decor and maintenance are not uncommon. Despite a generally positive regard for the hotel's cleanliness and charm, experiences here tend to be mixed.

The hotel was in an idyllic situation , we had a lovely room overlooking the bay . The reception. staff were helpful. Covid rules observed at all times .
What was disappointing was being asked to let reception know IF we wanted the room cleaning ?! Now we have stayed at various hotels over the past few weeks and the rooms have been cleaned / freshened and towels replaced ,tea tray replenished as normal ?! We found this quite odd .
Breakfast was very average lovely quality bacon but the mushrooms I would say were tinned 🥴the toast is brought out on a plate piled up so all became very ‘soggy’ and we had to send it back on the first morning as it was soggy and barely toasted . Orange juice tasted sweet and of saccharine , questionable quality again . This is not a cheap B&B so breakfast should be of better quality and more attention to detail

Thank you for leaving a review after your most recent stay. As many restrictions from Covid are still in place we will still be asking all guests whether they wish to have their room serviced. This is to ensure a time that guests will be vacant from their rooms with enough ventilation for housekeeping. Some guests, when staying two nights decide that they do not wish to have their rooms cleaned so we ask guests to confirm this for us each day. Our head chef reassures us that we only use locally sourced mushrooms which are cooked in local unsalted butter so a shame to hear that they weren't to your liking. The other points you have made about toast and orange juice will be passed onto the food and beverage manager. We hope that you will choose to stay with us again.

Arrived 31st December for a three night stay. The room was a very good size and the twin beds were very comfortable. Plenty of hot water and good quality fluffy towels. Room cleaning on request if required due to covid restrictions, which we did not find necessary for such a short stay. Any extra refills for teas, coffee water etc., were freely available on request at reception.
The hotel was very clean and everyone, both guests and staff seemed happy to wear masks when in the corridors and main areas when moving around, as requested by management and the restrictions in place. The food was well presented and cooked freshly as ordered in general and was very enjoyable. The staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant and helpful at all times. We didn’t make use of the gym but it seemed to be very well equipped. We used the indoor pool and it was a good temperature and like the rest of the hotel, very clean. In general there were lots of small extra touches, that made the hotel a very welcoming and pleasant place to stay. The only note of caution I can add, is to be aware that the safe in the room has a tendency to lock and stay locked even when the staff try to override it. Apparently it is not unusual and they are hoping to replace them all in the near future. This did not cause a huge problem for us as they managed to get the safe open for us the next morning and as throughout our stay the staff were very cheerful and willing to help in any way possible. The hotel seemed very safe and secure in general and we only used the safe because we are quite cautious by nature. We will certainly be returning in the summer months at some point as we really liked the hotel, location and friendly staff.

We stayed at the Osborne Hotel for 3 nights in July 21.
Managed to get the last available double room no view but not bothered by that. The room was big and had everything we needed lovely big bed with white bed linen. Plenty of choice of tea, coffee, hot chocolate biscuits and bottled water in your room.
Lovely modern bathroom spotlessly clean plenty of hot water complimentary toiletries provided and big white fluffy towels.
The only thing missing was a mini fridge and maybe a fan.

The hotel has two pools one indoor and the outside pool across the road.
The outside pool area and terrace is let down in need of some TLC the wooden tables and chairs are in need of a coat of wood stain/paint and around the pool it needed sweeping, banana skin, dirty serviettes and unfinished drinks left on the table overnight.
Sun loungers are plastic no cushions and become very uncomfortable 4 umbrellas one was broken.
The pool is in need of some attention on the floor of the pool there was a white broken filter cover we saw people catching their feet on it and also some of the tiles had come of the bottom of the pool and they were just left there. we saw a young lad pool attendant test the water but no one actually cleaned the pool with a vacuum. I think the pump was also not working hence the cold water.

We went to use the indoor pool and the nice lady on reception said oh you have it to yourself no one in there tonight [ I now know why]
We went down I put my foot in the water and it was freezing cold supposed to be a heated pool. The whole area is tired and in need of renovation the pool was dirty lots of sand in the corners. Around the outside of the pool the floor had been painted not recently but the paint was all flaking off and we had all bits of blue paint stuck to the bottom of our feet I would not recommend using the pool [avoid at all costs]

The Terrace bar is nice has a lovely sea view but at the end of the night it when it closed all the glasses were just left out on the tables over night left it looking scruffy.

All along outside the hotel they have lovely flower displays and the sea views are lovely.

Breakfast was a bit hit and miss wait to be seated at a table fill out a form with your choices. The cooked breakfast was ok not very hot asked for white toast got brown asked for poached egg on toast with bacon and it came with baked beans, mushroom and tomatoes. Need to pay more attention to the order slips. Orange juice Luke warm.

Went into Torquay had a lovely fish and chip supper at the Rockfish restaurant and Sunday lunch at Bickley Mill Inn not far from Newton Abbott.

Sitting outside having a drink and so shocked to see lazy staff ( on their phones) just removing bottles and plastic cups off tables but not once has anyone wiped let alone sanitised the table !!! It’s not busy so no excuse, we’re doing our bit so come on pull your finger out your .... and get it sorted, Other establishments seem to have a great system. Register details then staff check the table has been sanitised. Osbourne Hotel likes to charge full prices for drinks etc £££. so give the service.

A message from the food and beverage manager: "I am disappointed to hear of your recent experience with us. We usually operate a system where one member of staff serves, whilst the other maintains the cleanliness of the tables. I am sorry that this was obviously not employed during your visit. I will investigate this, as it is of most importance that this is adhered to. The staff should not be on their phones, so this annoys me, as we have had a recent meeting to clarify this. I would like to apologise again about what was experienced; this is not the service we usually provide. I hope this does not deter you from visiting the Osborne Hotel in the future"

Plenty of free parking on site, nice well kept pool and the gym looked very good (didn't use it ourselves) Paid £45 for one night in this 4* hotel. We arrived at 2pm and was given a key to our room, the lady said we can upgrade if we wanted (£20 for sea view, £25 fo bigger sea view) the original room was a lovely small double room without a view. I decided to upgrade £25 to a room with a view and sofa area. Although £25 is a lot to upgrade just for a privilege of a sea view and a sofa the total price of £65 was worth every penny. The bathroom was lovely, bed comfortable, plenty of hot drinks and a kettle etc.. Definitely will recommend the hotel and will look at staying again. Swimming pool was very well maintained.

The hotel is impressive from the outside & has magnificent views of Torbay.
We weren’t staying in the hotel (live locally) & visited on bank holiday Monday for lunch & drinks on the terrace.
We had a lovely table with a fantastic view. Drinks & lunch ordered when a groundsman started power washing the gazebo & patio next to the terrace bar & continued for over an hour. It really spoiled what should have been a very relaxing & enjoyable afternoon. The waiter returned after a few minutes to say that they didn’t have any draft Amstel, which was on the drinks menu. This happened last time we came for a drink, a couple of weeks before when they had just opened after lockdown, reasonable then but not to have any two weeks later wasn’t really acceptable.
We’d ordered monkfish tails for my partner, which came with salad which he doesn’t eat, so he asked for chips instead. They said they would have to charge extra for the chips even though he wasn’t having the salad, which was a bit cheeky & not what we’ve ever experienced elsewhere. I ordered a Cajun chicken pitta, which came with chips. Both looked nice on arrival 45 minutes later, which is fair enough on a busy bank holiday, although a bit of warning would have been nice. I asked for some mayonnaise, which they went off to get & came back to say they didn’t have any.
The Cajun chicken was in chunks inside the pitta bread & was made up of what looked like reconstituted chicken breast & with a very odd texture.
All in all, apart from the view & the weather it was a disappointing visit, which is such a shame as this could be such a fantastic venue for food & drinks.

First impression always count and what a wonderful warm welcome we received from the lovely Laura at reception.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and decorated to a very high standard.
We stayed in a sea facing suite which had the most amazing views from 3 large windows. My 11 year old son slept in a large and comfy sofa bed. The upgrade price from a standard double was well worth it.
We had a massive corner bath that had views out to the sea.
Both indoor and outdoor swimming pools were open, we only visited the indoor pool which was on a first come first served basis. Again very clean but a little too hot for me.
You are asked to have your temperature taken before entering the restaurant which is no problem. Breakfast was beautiful with a little wait but the staff worked so hard to ensure you had everything you needed.
We had booked in for an evening meal on our second night, when we arrived there was a large al la carte menu, unfortunately this was changed to a very limited menu which in my option was overpriced fir the food. £26 for a steak, thankfully it was on the dine in to help out offer or we would have not been able to justify the price of food.
Drinks were served during the day in the outside bar which often had a queue, but it went down quick enough and may have been due to the fact that the you d guy serving was under age and couldn’t serve alcohol so had to call someone each time an alcoholic beverages was required.
Entry to the bar inside bar was only for dinners in the restaurant.
All these measures were in place due to the COVID rules.
The wonderful service from Laura continued throughout our stay, offering local advice and a wonderful smile, she is a great credit to the hotel.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

Overall I would say my stay was average, I was disgusted to enter the hotel and have a lady on reception rude, closed and snappy at us simply asking if we can use the bar whilst we wait…
We then waited 45 minutes to be told no information (previously this same woman had given the other couples info about the pool, breakfast etc) we felt quite victimised from this point. To top that we were told our room placement and directed in the completely opposite direction. The room was lovely, and certainly had been redone, however I was again let down to see a open black bag of rubbish left in the corridor (this was still remaining for a total of about 5 hours and stunk).
When we finally got down to the pool, I’m glad I bought my flip flops as the floor was disgusting, the pool area broken, run down and paint peeling everywhere, it reminded me of an abandoned leisure centre from the 90s. Me and my partner quickly left and decided we wouldn’t eat dinner or stay another second that evening in the hotel and decided to eat out elsewhere.
The breakfast was lovely, and the servers were so polite and kind and did justice for the staff we had previously encountered. However bar staff were again snappy, rude, telling us we could not sit in the main restaurant area with no politeness or gratitude.
Overall I am so disappointed with this hotel, the atmosphere is shocking, dull and building dated. Me and my partner usually highly rate where we stay and I personally do not feel this is deserving of a four star. Maybe if they could train their staff in customer service, observe what their cleaners actually do and smile once in a while whilst giving some major cleaning, care and refurbishment to the indoor pool area , I’m sure it would deserve the stars. I won’t be recommending or returning.

Reception asked my partner if he was ok, presumably, they’d seen him carrying our our pillows and my single mattress topper (I would have taken a double if we’d had enough space in the car) As noted in the Sunday Telegraph review from 2016 they recommend taking your own pillow, good advice you’ll need it. The Mattresses are too firm and not in a good way. Best to take your own toiletries, I’ve never seen ones so cheap in a 4 star hotel anything nice I’d usually take home, theirs were left unused. Try and get a reduced room rate, without breakfast (cafe by Meadford beach is good) and enjoy the views. Years ago this was a 3 star hotel and should have remained one. The word on the street is a new 5* hotel is being built, I will definitely be looking into this, when you get to a certain age you need your home comforts

The location of this hotel took us by surprise and was very special, the hotel is in a Regency crescent which overlooks a lovely sheltered blue flag beach/bay. There were terraces overlooking the bay for lunch/ drinks.
Our room was at the back and had an okay view of trees , it was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom
We walked into town for dinner - it was not very far but relatively steep
The choices at breakfast were good and in summary would like to return (depending on the price)

Seriously not a problem, the receptionist gives you a card to put in your window for the duration of your stay as advised in previous response. It’s just to make sure that people staying at the Osborne can park easily. Lovely place to stay!

That's a tricky one, the rooms and public area's have improved but the Customer Service requires some improvement. it's a shame my phone call wasn't recorded they could play it back, instead of putting words into my mouth and told that's not what you had asked us for, when you ask for clarification your then given conflicting information and any follow up emails are just ignored. It is what it is, pretty much the same as any hotel in Torquay I don't think they've grasped the concept of a 4* hotel so if it's a special occasion you might be disappointed, if it's just a room for a few nights you should be happy.

I can only speak from my experience. The wedding with disco in the conference room was loud and the music went on until 12.30am. All the windows were open so the noise carried all over the complex. The guests were loud on the terrace bar, noisy in the corridors and slamming car doors at 1am. If there is no disco/wedding you will be able to use the terrace & tennis courts as usual and will not experience the noise we had to endure.
