The Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel garners mixed feedback, with guests lauding the clean, modern rooms that offer stunning seafront views and a prime location near local attractions. However, some travelers find the atmosphere lacking and report inconsistencies in both service and amenities.
While the refurbished rooms are popular, issues with maintenance and outdated pool facilities have been noted. Additionally, unexpected costs have led many to question the value of their stay.

Detailed Reviews
Firstly COVID precautions are very good. High standards of cleaning and well socially distanced
Hotel is ideally situated on the cliff top overlooking the sea and just a few minutes walk from Bournemouth centre. The hill back up though is steep so maybe not for all! Views however are immense
Hotel decor hasn't been updated in a very long time and really hold back from a 5 star review. That said room and bed were very spacious and comfortable and impeccably clean
The other downside would be the pitiful seating area outside. A few wooden benches and patchy grass. You cant sit on the stunning terrace as this is reserved for restaurant diners. To add insult to injury you have to take your drink out in a 1 pint paper cup irrespective of whether it was beer or wine. The restaurant and bar arent operated directly by the hotel but you would have thought they wood look at this
Breakfast is currently a la carte with 6 or 7 plated options. Very good quality even if service is a bit hit and miss.
Parking is almost impossible. We were fortunate to get a space when we arrived but chose not to move the car again incase we couldnt get back in
Without exception the staff were friendly and helpful and really helped made up for what the decor lacked.
Wouldnt hesitate in staying again. A soft refurb and some proper outdoor seating and this place could be incredible

Upon arrival we were confronted by a long queue at reception and several sets of guests complaining about delayed ability to checkin or the standard of their rooms. Not a great start.
My checkin went fine. No offer of an Elite upgrade (to be expected given what I had heard).
The room was away from the main block in a side building. “Deluxe” may have been on the booking but it’s not how I would describe it.
It was fine and functional. The room was quiet, the aircon worked.
The hotel catering is run by Brasserie Blanc. They seemed to be struggling with Covid requirements (unnecessarily so from how I have seen everything handled elsewhere) - always “booked up” despite seeming empty. Breakfast with them also had to be booked - 07:30 was the only slot I could get for my weekend breakfast.
The hotel pool was shut.... “because of Covid”.
It’s a shame. The hotel has a prime location over a stunning bit of coast but Marriott need to spend £millions to bring it in line with the tariff and brand.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel and providing your honest feedback. At peak check in times we may have a queue due to reduce capacity to check guests in due to social distancing. We would normally operate 3 check in stations but have had to reduce this to 2 check in stations to make sure all our guests remain safe. The hotel does not operate the food and beverage service. Our Partner Brasserie Blanc operate the bar and restaurant and have been extremely busy during this time period. Pre booking is advised for all meal periods to avoid disappointment and they are committed to improving service. The hotel pool is shut due to not being able to operate this area safely during this period. We apologise for the inconvenience. Once again, thank you for your valued feedback and we hope to serve you again whenever your travels bring you back to Bournemouth.

Good location to the Pier and lovely sea view from the Hotel; however this was clouded Looking through the window being uncleaned From the inside of the dining area. Breakfast was lovely and staff very pleasant and courteous. Our Room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable, but the bathroom tub was very narrow even for someone slim and the radiator was rusty an blind stained. No information in the room to be made aware of the conditions. We did not have dinner after having returned from the Pier on the Monday Evening caught in a blizzard, soaking wet only to be told that we have not booked and the same was for any meal including breakfast. When we eventually got a slot the next day, the menu was very limited which was disappointing. None of these was transparent to us when we checked in. In fact it was a great disappointment. We have stayed in Marriott hotel in UK and abroad and yet this has never been the case. No room service either, we were asked to collect our extra supply of tea bags and sugar at the reception. My husband did complain to the person on the desk. Tea making facilities were kettle, paper cups and very few selection of tea, also the lead of the kettle was not long enough for any nearby socket which means that the water has to be boiled and then moved to the tray. No pool, no gym, no drinks in room. What was most of a concern was that the lift opposite the hotel ( outside ) was shut which meant it was not so bad going down to the Pier but painful if one is elderly, unfit, overweight or with breathing difficulties. We saw people struggle at times to rest and yet there is no other way - no small train for people carrier was available. The infection control protocol was well respected. Another thing - Breakfast and parking are all extra cost. Nearby gardens Offered good attractions and buses were plenty to go to all directions at the Square. Taxis parked in bays nearby. If you are 60+, Harry Ramsden does special deal - fish and chips, large tea pot and dessert for £8.79. On the Pier, the cocktail bar offers drinks 2 for the price on 1 from 3pm.
If you are into surfing, then great beach and lots to enjoy. There is a zip wire if this takes your fancy at a cost of £22.00

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel and providing your honest feedback. Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and we sincerely apologize for falling short of meeting your expectations. I am glad to see that you have good feedback regarding breakfast service and the room was comfortable. I will look into the minor maintenance issues. On check in you should have received a welcome letter explaining all the changes to the hotel services due to COVID-19. I will make sure the reception team are reminded to provide these on check in. All food and beverage outlets are required to provide track and trace information and only provide table service hence the requiement to have guests book tables for all meal periods. Unfortunately the lift outside the hotel is run by BCP council and we do not operate this item. A short walk from the hotel is a gentle zig zag which can get you down to the sea front. Once again, thank you for your valued feedback and we hope to serve you again whenever your travels bring you back to Bournemouth.

Myself and my partner have just returned from a two night break in Bournemouth and chose to stay at the Marriott. We opted and paid for the Cottage room with Sea View. It was a lovely room, slightly outdated but our view was really lovely. The only down side to the view was that our left view was obstructed where the next hotel block pops out so we couldn't see to the left (room 215). Breakfast was lovely and a good choice on offer, the waiting staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel had put lots of measures in place for COVID guidelines, i don't think we have seen so much hand sanitizer stations in one place, it made us feel very assured that we were looked after. Checkout is at 12 noon but we wanted to stay and visit the beach a little longer before we departed home, we asked the lovely receptionist if we could pay for a little longer on the car park and she let us stay longer for free. We will definitely return !

We were excited to be staying here after a 3.5hr drive from Cornwall and our first real
family trip since lockdown. First impressions was the location did not disappoint. Right on the seafront and as the name suggests high in the cliffs so have a gorgeous view down out into the English Channel and onto Bournemouth pier. However once checked in, the negatives which were apparent from other reviews became clear. We stayed in room 147 a double family room. Size wise was 40m2 so very good space however the decor was so dated and the quality / finish was so bad given the Marriott name. Coat hook repaired using cellotape? Have you ever seen a room telephone as bad as this where you couldn’t actually dial either reception or guest services as there were no instructions? And no pressing 0, 9, 1 etc did not work. The floorboards were very creeky. Worst still the floorboards in the room above was even louder and you could hear every step and thud. The room is located in the Dorchester suite side of the hotel so quite a bit of a walk from the main reception but there is a convenient alternative entrance from the car park. However the room we stayed was situated along St Michaels Road so opposite the Hop Inn pub. You can imagine how noisy this was over a friday and Saturday night Positives? The safety precautions put in for covid-19 was good with hand sanitizer placed at every lift and every entrance / exit. Overall though quite disappointed for the price we paid. We knew that there was a premium associated with staying in a Marriott Hotel but this just did not live up to the usual standards. The breakfast quality was more akin to a Travel Lodge. Very cheap sausages etc. This hotel needs a big overhaul and a severe upgrade but if people are willing to pay the price for the location then unfortunately don’t expect any improvements any time soon.

My wife and I, took my mum & dad away for a short break, to give my dad time to relax & recoup following months of chemotherapy. But sadly he didn’t get the rest needed. I would have expected a lot better from the Marriott name and price. Room not clean, poor service and hotel not as expected. We requested that we wanted rooms to be cleaned everyday for our stay. Arrived back after being out two days running at 16:00, rooms not cleaned!! In addition you cannot order at bar due to coronavirus, which is understandable but you are told to use your phone to order from the table but when you have no phone to order from your table, they then add a service charge, unbelievable! The restaurant & bar are not run by Marriott, which I find unusual? You cannot put food/drinks onto your room either! Some bar staff are rude and do not follow the COVID-19 guidelines, which the hotel requests you to follow! You have to move from tables, as they are required for restaurant bookings? There’s no separate lounge area as such in the hotel to relax. Your room may not be in the main building, you will need to walk across the car park or go up, down and around to navigate through the hotels floors to gain access to your room, so if you have mobility issues check where your room will be before booking and there may be no parking spaces. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a relaxing time away. Very disappointed, will not be returning to this hotel! There are other hotels in Bournemouth which are cheaper but much better and give excellent service. This has put me off staying at any Marriott hotel in the future!

Hotel is fine on ground level, rooms and upstairs corridors are so so dated and worn out, a whole floor of rooms didn’t have working air con, we managed to get moved to a room that did work. In the room. You could hear outside music every night and water drainage from other rooms most of the night
The bar and Resturant where run by a food partner and are really struggling to cope during COVID times, the fact you have to book a table just to use the bar is a joke when you are already a hotel guest. Saying that the we spoke to the same employee each time we tried to get in and he was excellent and tried his best.
Parking is very limited to the point we dare not use the car to go anywhere as I may never get it parked again and that is at £12 a day
I would not be using it again and if I return to Bournemouth will be looking elsewhere.

We were so looking forward to a break between Christmas and New Year. The Marriott had been recommended and we asked for and paid for a room with a king sized bed . Our evenong meal was good and so ws the dining service. You would imagine with a bedroom and a corridor to a dressing room, we would have been really pleased but oh dear that's where the satisfaction ended. Both Covid and time have taken their toll on this well positioned property. The service in the dining room was good and the food very good but that's where it ended. Room 206 may have been large but the bathroom looked like it had been refurbished in the 70's with not much attention since. The six foot bed had a mattress which showed signs of wear on both sides as support was feeble leading to a tendency to feel one was sloping towards the edge while resting. There were no bath sheets just medium sized towels. The bath mat was torn, the room looked out onto flat a flat roof where the overflowing sagging guttering was held up by a piece of wood . Guttering above the window was also leaking causing a continuous sound of pouring water onto a flat roof which I hope is new enough to hold the flood water. There was a noise of thundering late into the night and early in the morning which I think was the air conditioning units operating. All of this was viewed through torn net curtains and stained drapes by walking across loose floorboards.
In terms of service our bedroom was not cleaned on Day 2 until some time after 3pm after having asked for it to be cleaned at 2:30 and we had guests arriving to meet us at 3:30 and wanted to wash and change. We bought teas and coffees in the bar which was attended by one person. We served ourselves taking the drinks through to where we were sitting. When we arrived back from an evening meal at 09:00pm the dirty trays with drinks were stiill left where we had been sitting some five and a half hours earlier. We reported this to reception. Unfortunately this break felt like a four star hotel charging four star prices providing a two star experience. There are many hotels in Bournemouth including a Premier Inn where the king sized hypnos beds are standard and the company guarantees a good night sleep. I am sure hotel staff are under a lot of pressure and it would be easy to criticize them but I point the finger at management who are not doing sufficient inspections and allow these things to pass unnoticed. Disappointing for a top brand in a town with so much choice

Just come back and very disappointed. For a Marriott you expect a lot more. We checked in and outside our room there were dirty dishes still there, at 3.30pm. Our room was so small and dated, the window was dirty and the aircon also didn't work - it was very hot in there. We complained and were told we would be moved to another room the next morning as they were fully booked and were given a small fan. The next morning we chased before we went to the beach, we were eventually given another room with working aircon after chasing 3 times at approx 5pm which is a hassle you don't need when you are only staying 2 nights. We also had time slots for breakfast which was fine however we were told that our time slot on our second morning was 10am, on arrival a lady in the restaurant told us they had already closed- no apology or alternative offered. Good location and nice lobby but that's about it. Also parking is £24 per night on top of £175 per night for the room, total rip off!

The reason we booked on this hotel is the outdoor pool, I contacted them and asked if the pools are open and was confirmed that it is open. To our surprise upon check in, nothing is open, pools, gym, bars. And the breakfast that they serve is just like continental breakfast, for the price that we paid it’s not worth it. Plus you need to book your slot for breakfast, we’re on holiday remember!
The AC is not working properly, it’s too warm in the room, we ended up asking for a fan. We reported the temperature on the room but no action on their part.
We requested our room to be cleaned, to our surprise when we came back from the beach at around 3 pm our room still not made and clean. We called the front desk and been told that housekeeping are working until 5 pm!
That is not the point, we need to have a shower but we need to wait in the main reception for 45 minutes while waiting for our room to be clean.
What a disappointment Marriott, Marriott Bournemouth IS THE WORST. I will definitely NOT book in this hotel again.

Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and we sincerely apologise for falling short of meeting your expectations. I am unsure who would have confirmed the outdoor pool to be open at the hotel but will endevour to correct this issue. The hotel has made the difficult decision to close the hotel outdoor pool for the season. Breakfast is bookable as is every meal period due to the track and trace regulations. I am sorry you did not see the hot breakfast options but these were avaibable to all guests.
