We went in for a simple pub meal at lunchtime. The place was deserted apart from a customer at the bar who kept clearing the phlegm from his lungs. At one point the unshaven "chef" appeared wearing some sort of beanie hat and dirty kitchen clothes to inform staff that there were no prawns for the stir fry. This was...

Friendly staff, popular 'local' pub feel, pool table, folks chatting at the bar - seemed pleasant enough. Food prompt but.... soggy, undercooked pie, raw pastry, cold gravy, undercooked chips, sticky table... the worst meal we've for a long, long time. Oh, and a dog under our table..

We found this quite a good pub, particularly for live music, which we wanted in the evenings. Service at the bar was very good with pleasant bar staff. Busy but not too busy. We did not eat but the restaurant / eating area was busy and the menu & specials had a good variety at fair prices.

We were booked in here as part of a small tour travelling through SW England. This is the worst place I've stayed in my life! Carpet greasy and dirty. Beds cheep and uncomfortable, made from foam. Bedding old polyester sheets marked with huge amounts of scented dryer detergents. The noise from the down stairs bar was unbearable along with the...

Service very slow, very expensive drinks or ripped off. Bit dirty / dingy. Won't be going back. Ordered drinks plus a couple of hot chocolates, barmaid then sent someone out to get some instant hot chocolate powder, 20 minutes later he returns, 10 mins after that drinks arrive !

We've been going to Swanage for years and have eaten at the White Swan before so were looking forward to the usual high standard. Sad to say, we were disappointed this time. Although the pub wasn't busy, the service was off-hand, not at all like the cheerful, friendly welcome we've become used to. Husband was satisfied with his meal but...

Called in at the White Swan on Weds 22nd February mainly to say hi to owner Simon but decided to have lunch there with our friends. My husband and I chose the 'large cod and chips' for £10. When he went to pay we were pleasantly surprised to be told that it was buy 2 fish and chips for £10!...

This was our first Xmas break away for many years. Room was clean and adequate. Good breakfasts and included Turkey Dinner. The bar was busy with visitors and some "lively" locals...but had a good atmosphere..even a Free juke box for the period. This is a proper pub that welcomes dogs and well behaved owners. Close to the lovely Swanage harbour...

Am sorry to have to do this review as this has been one of our favourite places in Swanage. We took our children 30-35years ago and as they grew up took there partners too . Stayed New Year's Eve with friends. We had a family room ,the heating didn't work, filthy pillows, electric point ( by single bed ) was...

Wonderful walk along Swanage beach with the dog followed by two fish and chips lunches at the The White Swan for £10! Fish catch of the day, batter light dusted in rock sea salt with garnish with crispy chips, garden peas and tartar sauce! Great atmosphere with friendly bar staff! Dogs welcomed in pub not restaurant and hidden garden in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If you are looking for a traditional English pub with friendly staff and a great atmosphere then look no further. Found in the sunny, coastal town of Swanage in Dorset, The White Swan has under gone a major transformation in the last few years, giving it a more fresh, modern look with out taking away any of its rustic charm. The present owner Simon Ginn took over the business at the start of 2008, having spent many years in pubs up and down the country. He has used all his experience and knowledge from being in front of the bar and taken it behind the scenes, his aim to turn the White Swan into one of the best pubs in town. Why not come and see for yourself what we have to offer. You can relax in the bar and choose from our wide selection of beverages, including local real ales, ciders, a variety of draught and bottled beers and an extensive wine list. Enjoy a meal in our restaurant; our menu offers something for everybody or you can try one of our popular daily specials. Located at the rear of the pub is our secluded, walled garden where it is easy to forget you are in the centre of town and just sit back and enjoy the sunshine and if you are looking for somewhere to lay your head, then try one of our clean and comfortable letting rooms. What ever it is you are looking for, you can be sure of a warm, friendly welcome and we promise you, you won't be disappointed. ... more   less
