Detailed Reviews
We went as a family of 4, booked a table for 7pm ,we waited a few minutes as we arrived to be seated at our table. When we were seated it was a really dark poorly lit table with a huge cobweb directly above us,we asked to be moved, whice we were straight away, we then sat at a window which was great. We ordered our food which was beautiful. We asked for more drinks but had to ask twice as it took a while for them to arrive. We finished our main course and asked for the dessert menu, which never came so we asked for the bill and mentioned that we didn't get the dessert menu at all, we were offered free dessert but we declined, we paid the bill and left a tip.
Staff were friendly but just not on the ball at all, maybe more staff needed or more training? Beautiful food ,but service let you guys down !

Food average and service absolutely atrocious, waited 10 minutes to be seated, 20 minutes for order to be taken then another 45 minutes for food to be served. Food was ok but the toddler food was cold. Won’t be returning in a hurry. Staff seemed to be under pressure and very apologetic.

We have eaten at the Red lion regularly for year's sadly the quality of the food has really dropped over the last six weeks.
Out of loyalty we have returned, we realised that the team was struggling with the purchase of the Travellers Rest but we have now tried both pubs and both have lost the way.
Sadly we will look for another restaurant for our weekly get together.

Do not stay the night. Avoid. As problem in review is known about and not been sorted. Food is good.
This is by far the noisiest room we have ever stayed in, in any hotel. The main door bangs repeatedly every time someone comes in or goes out. Busy at all times so constant banging til gone 11pm
We asked for a room change the next morning , but we're told non available. And the banging could be heard in all rooms. We were told others have also complained, in the past . But nothing has been done. I've taped the constant banging ,as we have no alternative but to stay the second night booking. The windows are single sash and you can hear traffic and people. The cold blowing through the old sash is a problem too. We were in the family room above the main door constantly slamming and vibration and noise in our room 2. Our son had to sleep with relatives due to disturbed sleep. Cannot upload videos only pics.
First night the food was amazing. Second we had to send a meal back as it was over cooked. Another same meal tasted odd. Service took ages.
A mixture of caring staff and couldn't give a toss staff
Positive note Breakfast was good . However all in all would never stay again.

Food awful on Sunday, soggy fatty greasy chips/potato skins, roast beef gristle fat and very tough veg just warm and overcooked, apple crumble just warm. Very disappointed we as a group will not be returning here. When told waitress about the beef she replied it was the cut of the meat.

Just back from the Red Lion which was fairly busy. Staff were great, very quick and friendly. We both ordered fish pie which was beautifully served with roasted tomatoes and tenderstem. Couldn't fault the food it was all lovely. We were too full for puds so cannot review them.

After a bad experience earlier in the year, we emailed with no response. We decided to give the red lion a second try for a Sunday dinner. We ordered 6 main courses, only 5 of which arrived with one little bowl of veg. The staff did not ask if we needed any sauces or any further side dishes. The members of staff were standing around and we had to get up to ask about our 6th main course. We had to ask for a second veg bowl and sauces. Everyone was almost finished their dinners when the final dinner arrived. The belly pork was soft and underwhelming. None of the members of staff checked back on our table as the missing dinner, when it arrived was also incorrect when we ordered a duo of turkey and pork. The main that arrived was turkey and beef. The restaurant was empty and the staff were constantly standing around yet when we tried to get their attention they seemed to be nowhere. The lamb and beef on the other dishes was nice but was overshadowed by the lack of service etiquette and mistakes. Will not give the red lion a third chance which is really disappointing as we loved this venue over the summer.

We have been to the pub many times and the food has been excellent but today ( Tuesday ) was a complete let down.
We were told that there was a problem with the gas and there was no food available from the grill, fair enough these things happen, we both ordered corned beef pie, chips etc only to be told a few minutes later that there was none. Nor was there any lasagne or curry. I then chose beef and ale pie and my partner chose mince and dumpling. The mince looked and tasted like it had come from a tin, the dumpling was more of a hard crust and the mashed potato was very dry, even with extra gravy, it had obviously stood for a long time on the hot plate.
The beef and ale pie looked like a bought butchers pie, there was plenty filling but the crust was almost impossible to cut and the chips were overcooked and dry. All in all this was a very expensive let down. Maybe the place has changed hands or changed chef but we will not be back. There was only ten people dining were as in the past the pub was always very busy. Coincidence?

This used to be the best place around for Sunday lunch, what on earth has gone wrong?
We both ordered lamb, there wasn’t even a slice on the plate just scraps.
Veg were only just luke warm.
I would be interested in meeting whichever chef had thought that it was okay to let these plates leave the kitchen.

Many years ago it was a really good place to eat so we thought we would pop in as we travelled home from an event. I ordered Lasagne and my husband the mince and dumplings. His mince looked grey and was tasteless. The vegetables were hard. The dumpling dry as sticks. He managed to eat the mash. My lasagne came with a small finger bun garlic bread. This was untoasted and inedible. The accompanying salad was drowned in dressing. The lasagne was the worst I've ever tasted. It was over microwaved so part was solid. The mince was tasteless and the pasta was not fresh. Awful.
I complained to the waiter who was very apologetic and did not charge for the meals.
Upon checking reviews I sadly find that we are not alone in our experience. We won't be returning..
