Detailed Reviews
Very friendly and helpful staff, a warm welcome and lots of information given about stay. The room was disappointing as we paid for are own bathroom but this was across the landing by the main walkway for a lot of other rooms which meant that if you wanted to use the toilet in the night or shower and wrap a towel around you this was not possible because of people going up and down to their rooms. Aside from this the bathroom was interesting as it had a balcony which was lovely as you could sit outside and view the lagoon. The bedroom was small but manageable for 2 nights however for a longer stay it would not be suitable as no where to sit only the bed and no dressing table for doing makeup or for doing hair. The room and bathroom were very clean, tv worked and there was a hairdryer. Bed had mattress protector which was a bonus but pillows had no pillow protectors and were awfully strained once the pillow cases were removed which was a shame as pillow protectors are very cheap and nobody wants to sleep in others juices. The fact that there is no breakfast was not a problem as there is a cafe over the road. Parking was stressful as there is only room outside for about 5 cars and a lot of the spaces are taken for people visiting the beach or lagoon however once parked after running the gauntlet to get a space it is fine. Food in the restaurant is okay although somewhat a limited choice with choices that a little bit more a la carte than expected. Paid £298 for two nights. Had a nice break as a break is what you make it.

In a group of 5 young women, we had no problems, for the price it is what you should get, easy check in and out, you have to move your car through the day to near roads for it to be free but even when we used the pay and display when we weren’t around to move it, it was £5 for the day which was cheap. Singular were okay, the sofa bed was fairly uncomfortable for two people but manageable. Bathroom was sufficient. One room with 5 people in can get hot but we managed with the corner fan and opening windows (in fairness it was about 30°c so wouldn’t normally be so hot.) At first we accidentally booked a room without a private bathroom and for the price difference I recommend getting one with a private bathroom, this was easily changed when I called as the lady was very helpful. About 50min walk to the centre of Brighton, we walked to the every day and would get a taxi back in the evening for about £18 for local XL taxi. Great for groups of young people who don’t need a fancy stay but somewhere to rest a bit out the way of the busy areas with a beach 2 mins away. No complaints here!

This hotel is cheap and cheerful - you get what you pay for. This hotel offers reasonably sized rooms, beautiful views of Hove Lagoon and Brighton Seafront.
However, please be aware that this hotel advertises free parking and it is in fact, on street parking which is payable mon-fri with a max stay of 4 hours per day. Luckily, we have family in Brighton therefore, we parked at their house however, with those not as fortunate, you would need to move your car every 4 hours to avoid a parking ticket.
Furthermore, our room was very hot and it was impossible to sleep without the fan on and the walls are paper thin as you can hear other guests talking, walking around or boiling the Kettle.
Additionally, during our 5 night stay our room was not cleaned, tea and coffee facilities not topped up and bedding and towels not changed. Despite that, we are aware that the staff members are keeping themselves safe during the COVID-19 pandemic and a phone number was provided in the hotel room to text a staff member if we required anything.
Nonetheless, we did not want to pester the staff by requesting new towels, bin bags, milk, tea or coffee.
Furthermore, there was one day where there was no running hot water and the fire alarm went off however, no staff on hand to explain what was happening therefore, it was ignored.
As for the Bar and Restaurant, I cannot comment as the facilities were not open during our stay.

Originally booked Miller and Carter through booking.com however a week before travelling Miller and Carter cancelled our booking for the first two days, later to find had cancelled the whole of my booking due to overbooking and was requested to go back to Booking.com Initially they offered me The Gather inn but was only two beds, the second they offered me was in London which was inappropriate for my needs as I was due to attend a four day conference in Brighton after many moans from me they came back with The Gather inn with three beds. (Please note this was NOT The Gather inn's fault.
The room we got was on the front of the building on the main A259 road. Yes there was a lot of traffic noise but this mostly stopped by the double glazing so not a real problem. The Room had two beds one was a double made up up of two single beds put together and one single.
The room was rather warm but during this stay it was the hottest day/s of the year to date. (33 degrees.) There was a fan in the room and windows could be opened. The bar area overlooks a lagoon which has water sports of varying kinds and very pleasant to watch from the bar area and in person. The restaurant was very pleasant with meals at a reasonable price with quick service. We found the owners very pleasant despite some of the reviews that have previously been written. Please note this place does not do breakfast but across the road there are two cafes that serve breakfast though we did only use one of them. Again please note you have to cross a busy main road to get to the cafes. Overall not a bad place to stay and should we come down again would have no hesitation to stay again. Thank you The Gather Inn

We held my mothers 90th birthdsy party here and it was a really memorable day.
The owners and staff were so helpful and the room was perfect. Good access three shallow steps through the garden then two steps to the door meant we could help the older guest in easily.
Welcome drinks were laid out and easily acceesed along with tea and coffee facilities.
The buffet supplied was plentiful and varied with some lovely tarts which were very tasty The bar staff kept the venue clean and tidy all the times and everything ran like clockwork.
Being allowed to come in for a while the day before meant we had pleanty of time to decorate the room.
We had about 60 guests, the room being split level allowed the younger ones and children lots of space. To be seated and mingle.
The garden was a great bonus and although it was a a warm august day the room stayed remarkably cool and airy.
All in all it was a brilliant day and we cant thank you enough

4 of us hired the lagoon view bar at the Gather Inn for our joint birthdays. The booking process was as easy as you'd hope with very attentive staff. We were able to have the room an hour before to set up. The room has a lovely lay out, and feels as though you have hired out a whole pub with a large bar, great sound system and your own outdoor smoking area. There was enough space to hold a large buffet, a photo table, and a dance floor along with general seating. The night went without a hitch, the bar staff were great and went above and beyond to help make our night - including helping us try pack up at the end of the night. Security staff were also provided within the price.
I would definitely recommend for booking a private function.

Before arriving they emailed asking what was our arrival time. We got a reply back saying congratulations your booking in confirmed. We arrive around 12:45pm and buzz on the Intercom and the lady asks do you have a reservation. I said yes gave her my name and told her the time I’d be arriving. She said, sorry check in is at 3pm. I replied, that wasn’t mentioned prior to arriving she said well that’s the policy and due to covid the room needs to be cleaned. I said I understand that but the time wasn’t stated can you please hold on to our bags whilst we go and wait. She replied, “ no!” I said, “really?” So I turned to my kids and said this is rediculous. I proceeded to ask the lady on the intercom again can she hold our bags and again she said no and hung up the intercom.
I decided to go into the facility and speak to someone instead but it appeared to be the same lady. I asked kindly, are you the lady I was just speaking with? She agreed and I continued with I don’t like the way you hung up the intercoms I only wanted to know if you could hold our bags. She said , “ oh I though you said you wanted to come lay on the bed.” I replied, “ no sorry, why would I want that if you said you have to clean the rooms.” She took our bags and whilst out I get an email saying, “ Hi,
Please can you collect your things by 2pm as we will be closing.
Thanks
Gather Inn”
Me and my two children arrive and are greeted by a different lady and ask about the email, she said, yes, the lady you were speaking to is my pregnant sister and didn’t like how you spoke to her.”
For my children to look at me puzzled and say mom you wasn’t disrespectful but the lady that hung up on us and greeted us miserably was rude!
That is my experience. 0 stars.

Response from Gather Inn, Owner at The Gather Inn
Responded Jun 4, 2021
We are a family run guest house and we will not tolerate extreme rudeness and aggression towards our staff, particularly not when they are pregnant and vulnerable, this is why you were not able to stay with us. When you booked you received an automatic email stating that 3pm is check-in time. On our website it states 3pm check-in and on the agency website that you booked with. We emailed in the morning to ask for an ETA, you replied 12.45/1pm, we replied stating check-in is from 3pm, would you like us to put 3pm down, there was no reply. You arrived at 12.30 and said that you had emailed to say, we said yes but we did say we can't do any earlier, when we tried to advise that the covid cleaning schedule means we can't do early check-in, you spoke over the Receptionist, you were very aggressive and then called her ridiculous. You then came into the the Bar without a face mask and was asked to put one on, you refused, then you said we should give you one. The Receptionist advised that she was pregnant but still no mask. You then left your heavy bags for her to move and said that you'd be back later. This is when we decided that we didn't want to have someone in our guest house that disrespects people and is not concerned about the safety of others, for us it was a horrible experience from beginning to end too.

Hosted a 30th birthday party at the gather inn on 18th December and was disappointed to say the least. I had initially booked the function room which needed catering as per their policy for the room, but due to covid I had many drop out guests so I had around 20 people willing to eat. Bearing in mind their food was of not of a decent quality, sandwiches were poor and wedges were cold. (Pics attached) I was told there was a minimum spend of food for 30 guests, the venue proposed the idea I use the top bar area instead of a large function room to which I agreed to, but still needed food apparently. I paid £6.50 x 20 guests and was extremely disappointed with the quality of food, I was not allowed to bring my own food, otherwise I would have got a LOT more for £100+.
The Hotel rooms were very expensive compared to the quality of them, the bathroom had a nasty smell and was a very small room for £112 a night, some family members of the party paid up to £170 for 1 night! I understand it’s Christmas time, but for a small, basic room this is an extortionate amount of money. See picture below of room size.
One one occasion we asked for a knife to cut the cake, we were given a butter knife, asked for another and they said no. Not that this is a huge issue, it’s the lack of caring from their side.
I found the staff didn’t ask if we were ok or were overly that friendly and I got the impression they wanted the event over and done with, which is a shame because we’d spent a lot of money on the food, the bar and the hotel rooms.
We made the best of the night as we could though I’m really disappointed in the quality of food and bedrooms for the price I had to pay. I wouldn’t recommend this venue again.

Checked in at 2pm, there wasn’t ample parking so had to park up the road. Checked in after a website error on booking.com so ended up with having to share a bathroom. Then went to go and get a drink to be told that they were really busy so better to go somewhere else. Room was beyond basic and really hot, faced a main road, hardly a sea view! Went down to get a drink in the evening but the bar was closed. Seemed to be 1 lady running the whole thing, she was lovely but obviously rushed off her feet. Came back later to find there was not even a light bulb in the lamp! It’s the type of experience you would expect when paying 30 per nigjt but this room was £250!!! Absolutely mad! Never ever again! Place should be shut down! The man who owns it said he was having staff issues with covid but I get the impression he was just trying to rinse as much money out of people! Absolute hell hole!

I booked this room for 3 nights for £360 for the week of a major party conference. Unfortunately my mother had a fall and I could not attend. Booking.com advised that the cancellation fee was the full charge £360, but that I could request a refund from the hotel. The hotel refused the request. On contacting hotel by phone I was advised that was their policy on late cancellations.
The cheapest room available at the hotel on booking.com for the a room lower spec than mine for the same period is currently £770. My room has clearly been re let at a higher price. I raised the fact with them that they were now making over £1000, on this room because I had been good enough to cancel it and hope that they would behave decently. If you are in a similar position I would suggest you contact them direct before you release the room. I fully accept that they are contractually entitled to do this but it does seem very poor that they keep the full amount when they have re let the accommodation.
