I have eaten at the royal beach hotel a couple of times which were enjoyable experiences and the food was lovely.
However I visited today for a 2 course carvery and dessert which I purchased from groupon and was bitterly disappointed!

Hotel is right on seafront, with great access to bus service right outside the hotel. Gunwharf quays, museums, dockyard all within 2 miles. You can walk to southsea in 10 minutes, which has lots of shops and restaurants.
