Every thing about this hotel is great. The service and the breakfast is second to none although I would say the front facing rooms are much better. Handy for all the shops and especially the historic dockyard.

Booked for one night while we were in the area. Hotel is a bit dated and tatty and in need of refurbishment but, that said, we enjoyed our stay. From the antiquated lift to the large double bedroom overlooking Portsmouth Harbour and HMS Warrior the hotel is in a great location a minutes walk from the Historic Dockyard and HMS... More

We stayed here for one night when visiting the historic dockyard, and in terms of location it really was brilliant. Walking distance to both the Dockyard and Gun Wharf Quay where we ate in the evening. The hotel included free parking as well which was great. So if I could offer a grade on location it would be 4. However... More

Depressing room, beds were horrendous - you could feel the springs. Bathroom carpets were sticky so could not walk on them without something on your feet, there was no shower hose so no way of washing your hair, toilet flush was rusty and the system dirty looking. Breakfast was not good or hot. Building could be beautiful if it had... More

We booked last minute as hotel is in a strict Gunwharf Quays and we liked it. Gentlemen at the desk and breakfast were polite and helpful. We had last available twin room with the back view.Pity that wasn't in the front but even if was old - was also big with big bathroom and radiator already on! Just shower hose... More

This was obviously one of the superior grade hotels once. 5 Star plus. High ceilings, beautiful fixtures and fittings and period wall paper. The staff have great character and are helpful and friendly. The owner made himself known, during the delicious, good value for money, breakfast and asked if everything was alright. I hadn't the heart to tell him what... More

Our third stay here and although enjoyable, the place definitely needs redecoration. The staff are really friendly and helpful and breakfast is good. It's good value for money and right where you want to be in Portsmouth, it's just in dire need of some tlc and yes, I will return, hopefully in a few weeks.

OK. Where to begin... We always look firstly for location then price then amenities. The location of Keppels Head hotel cannot be beat if visiting Portsmouth. Right out the front door is the bus terminal ( new one being built at time of writing) and the train station. A five minute walk to the Naval museum, HMS Warrior, Terror and... More

Was lucky to get the last room available here (for a Saturday night). Location - good, more or less opposite the exit to Portsmouth Harbour station, right of the Co-op store. The whole hotel needs a major refurbishment; a very old building, so signs of wear and tear to be expected. The low cost (£65) was welcome but did reflect... More

Admittedly the hotel is a bit rundown and needs a lot of expensive refurbishment but our double room which was at the front of the hotel on second floor was spacious and clean. We had a great view of The Harbour and Spinnaker Tower. It was a bit noisy early in the morning as it is opposite the station and... More
