Historical building in a fine seaside location. Excellent level of customer service; we've never encountered such friendly and dedicated staff. Very good bar and restaurant, both reasonably priced. The building itself needs some restoration but the overall quality of the rooms, location and general customer experience more than compensated for it. Great job!

Stayed here for 4 nights in April. Generally a very good hotel. Some of the staff appeared to be still training and a little slow, however still very helpful. Entrance and lobby areas and bars are smart with a upmarket feel. However the place is looking a little tried in places. Breakfast is best booked at hotel as some booking...

Last week I spent three nights at your hotel and this is just a brief note to tell you how much I enjoyed my stay. All of the staff - reception, restaurant, bar - are immensely personable and cheerful and seem to go out of their way to be helpful. It is clearly no coincidence that virtually all of your...

We booked two nights (Sunday & Monday) at the Queens Hotel, we had a lovely double room and it had a good view over the park to the sea. The staff were very helpful from the moment we checked in, everyone was very polite and attentive during our short stay. Our room was very clean and comfortable, we also made...

We have hired the hall at the Queen's Hotel a number of times, and the team are always happy to help. Each time we arrive we are greeted by a cheerful team at reception, and the managers and porters are always quick to help and support us at each of our events. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the bedrooms, or...

Not the most expensive in Southsea, so cannot complain too much. Great location and am sure it used to be a great hotel many years ago. However, I feel it now needs some upgrading to the 21st century. Was very hard to get TV reception. Had to move the aerial at back to TV several times to get a reception....

We booked a de-luxe room with a sea view and weren't disappointed. Absolutely first class. The staff were attentive, courteous and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was superb and meals in the restaurant likewise.

the carpets may be a little tired, but this is a truly lovely hotel. Great staff. Fabulous - all-you-can-eat breakfast which sets you up for the entire day. Lovely sea facing room. We shall definitely go back.

The hotel occupies an ideal position for the beach and old town. While it is true that the hotel is past its prime it was, none the less, a very enjoyable stay. We had a huge room, bed and decent sized bathroom. The food available for breakfast was of the highest quality and plentiful. The staff were all very pleasant...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The original Queen's hotel was known as Southsea House and was built by the architect Augustus Livesay, in 1861. It was then a large private house owned by Sir John and Lady Morris and was later transformed into one of the first hotels in Southsea by William Kemp Junior, this is when it became known as the Queen's Hotel. In the late 18th century the Queen's Hotel had a yacht club that stood behind it called the Royal Albert and was also surrounded by woods, which were then called Stone Woods. On December 8th 1891 in the early hours of the Sunday morning a disastrous and fatal fire occurred. Aided by strong winds it raged until the whole of the premises had been completely gutted. The Hotel was rebuilt in 1903 by the architect T.W.Cutler into the splendid building that stands today, complete with its Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta. ... more   less
