We visited the Queens hotel today to enquire about holding our wedding reception there. We where pleasantly surprise when we pulled up to the hotel as it was very grand looking. We entered the hotel to be kindly greated by a lady at reception who was very happy to help us and went to find another member of staff to...

A very enjoyable afternoon tea with excellent service, nice selection of well made sarnies, nice scones and cakes (with a generous portion of cream), plenty of tea and a good choice of teas, all in a lovely old building.

We have stayed here before and had a great stay but this time not good. Staff were rude, room could do with deep cleaning. No hot water all the stay, curtains did not cover the windows meaning the wind and light kept us awake. At breakfast the buffet was broken we could not wait to leave.

Marilyn and Tony had a wonderful evening at the Valentines dinner and dance. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. The entertainment was really great also. We spent the night plus an extra night. Our room was very comfortable and we had a lovely sea view. We had a slight problem in that we...

My husband and I visited this hotel last year as it was close to my daughter who is studying at uni there. The hotel is first class very well run and close to the seafront. It is very art deco with lots of original features and even though at the outset you may find it pricey it's worth every penny...

We had a couple of family birthdays here last weekend, we had a brilliant time. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, we could not have asked for better service. The room although on the small side were clean and had every facility that you would need. We had an amazing view from our room. Breakfast was amazing. We would...

We had two very comfortable rooms. One had a port view and we enjoyed watching the ships come and go. The beds were marvelously comfortable. The breakfast menu was generous. All staff members were quite helpful and friendly.

I have never given any hotel a bad review before as I like to assume that they were just having an off day or similar. The Queens Hotel is terrible though. The rooms are tiny and poorly maintained. But worst of all, the tipping point for us was when we had no hot water we were told that is always...

In my youth The Queens Hotel was the hotel in Southsea - elegant, refined and so on. She has very sadly slipped beyond shaded gentility and almost beyond shabby, sadly the prices do not reflect this slide. Our deluxe room may have been that once but that was a very long time ago. I would have given a lower rating...

I recently stayed at the Queens Hotel, I was quite anxious after reading previous reviews about the hot water issues. I understand they have been resolved as I had piping hot water throughout my 3 night stay. On check out I asked about it and they said they had a new boiler fitted recently. The food was excellent, I ate...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The original Queen's hotel was known as Southsea House and was built by the architect Augustus Livesay, in 1861. It was then a large private house owned by Sir John and Lady Morris and was later transformed into one of the first hotels in Southsea by William Kemp Junior, this is when it became known as the Queen's Hotel. In the late 18th century the Queen's Hotel had a yacht club that stood behind it called the Royal Albert and was also surrounded by woods, which were then called Stone Woods. On December 8th 1891 in the early hours of the Sunday morning a disastrous and fatal fire occurred. Aided by strong winds it raged until the whole of the premises had been completely gutted. The Hotel was rebuilt in 1903 by the architect T.W.Cutler into the splendid building that stands today, complete with its Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta. ... more   less
