Do not be deceived by its grand facade! Inside the building is old and shabby. Wallpaper peeling from walls and stained carpets that are not fitted properly. Booked this hotel as got a good discount from a well known site so thought it would live up to the expectations of the normal rates. The staff on reception were very unwelcoming...

This is a two star hotel so the review is based on that rating. It is a bit tatty but there are many plus points. Very friendly staff, good central location, comfortable beds in en-suite bedrooms, good buffet breakfast and a nice front bar area. It could do with a re-dec and shower upgrades but it suited my purpose. I...

Room was dirty, ingrained dirt on bathroom and bedroom window sills, repairs were all shoddy, towel rail broken and shower alternated boiling / freezing. Price was absurd for a room of this quality and quite simply the worst value for money I have ever experienced and I stay in about 5 - 6 hotels a month. The hotel has clearly...

Stayed one night here and it was very very average. Hotel is being refurbed and it lacks any atmosphere at all. Feels old and tired and very unloved. We were told at check in not to use the lift as doors didn't open or close on their own - we took the stairs and the handrail was a piece of...

As is our regular practice we booked a room at the Star Hotel for the night prior to boarding a cruise ship in Southampton. Since our last visit the hotel had undergone some refurbishments which are still ongoing and these are enhancing the place a great deal. We left our car in the care of the hotel for the duration...

It's a cheap one night stay with breakfast for £57. Central location but decor is bad and left to go to ruin so let's not pretend it's anymore than a mediocre 2 star. To pay £125 for a night here as one member has done is beyond ridiculous! It is what it is, tired, run down, old and yes possibly...

We booked this hotel for a one night stay to be honest I had booked the wrong way meant to book the Dolphin where we had stayed before. Got to say walking into reception and mindful of the notice saying that refurb is under way you can see that it needs a lot of work doing to it. The trip...

As a frequent traveller with my work I would like to think I have seen a broad spectrum of hotels and i have an open mind, looking on different websites I came across The Star Hotel with photos of comfy looking clean rooms so looked at the deluxe room for £125 without including breakfast and thought this would be a...

Old, quaint, and in need of a revamp. However the staff are tremendous (especially Charlie), the rooms are adequate, breakfast first class and if you do need/want to visit Southampton city centre or West quay, then the location couldn't be better. For those in the know - the lift is a scream, literally.
