This is a beautiful manor house just a few steps from the heart of St Albans and its cathedral with the longest nave in the country. The grounds are extensive, 5 acres, and our room on the ground floor had a view of the private lake and the gardens; hidden from view of the public, the main park of the...

We had visited St Michaels Manor a couple of times for a drink. The staff were always very accommodating so we decided to book a night here even though it's only half an hour from home. Our room was on the second floor (no lift) this was ok for one night but I would request a ground floor room if...

Perfectly located hotel set in beautiful grounds in the old part of St Albans. We had a garden room which was fabulous, with a french door on to a small private patio area if we wanted to use it. Fantastic spacious and well equipped room with very comfortable bed and spotless bathroom. We ate in the hotel bar - hadn't...

I stayed here for one night with my boyfriend and it was lovely. The room was beautifully designed and the pillows were so comfortable. Dinner at the resturant was delicious and the ambience was great with mood lighting and music at just the right level. Service was delivered by everyone with a smile, from those at reception, to the wait...

I am on a holiday, and unfortunately they booked a wedding at the same time. They have a live band below my room. It is currently past 11pm. The band is still playing and my windows are vibrating due to the loudness of the music. IT IS HORRIBLE. I highly recommend to find out what event the place has prior...

Stayed here whilst attending a family wedding. The first night we ate in the hotel there was a large function in the main dining room. We ate in a smaller room. Even though the hotel was very busy, the service and standard of food we experienced was excellent. The staff were very attentive and made sure we were well looked...

Just returned from an overnight stay at this excellent hotel, which we visited to celebrate an important birthday. Polite and efficient reception staff, super room equipped with everything you could ever want and in an excellent location for access to the cathedral and the town centre. We ate in the restaurant on the evening and both my wife and I...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This magnificent town-house hotel, set in five acres of beautiful English country gardens with lake, is remarkably close to the city centre. The Newling Ward family converted the 500 year-old building in 1965 and continue to own and run the hotel. The 30 bedrooms are individually styled, with many overlooking the lake and gardens, and the award-winning orangery style restaurant shares the same views. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, cream teas and dinner served in a choice of dining areas. ... more   less
